  1. My strategic approach got kicked in the face from having no time and this wave of storms. I will keep this thread updated whenever I manage to tear things apart. I plan to pull valve cover, loosen all injectors, pull all of the fuel lines and clean up the mating surface, pull crossover tubes and clean mating surfaces, then re-install everything in the proper order. If that doesn't work I guess it's compression testing time
  2. Just used this this morning! Engine temp was 15deg F and I started it popped the hood and felt each runner individually. I figured One and 6 would be the coolest, which they were but 6 did NOT warm up much (I could hear it missing). The other 5 got hot enough I couldn't keep my fingers on them but 6 stayed relatively cool. I believe it is just the tube not seating into the injector properly.
  3. They are a PITA ... but yes there is a banjo fitting on the back of the head with crush washers. It is a good idea to remove the fitting and replace the washers. Also check the T fitting where the head return connects to the VP return.
  4. Don't forget to take pictures when you do!!
  5. Yes that is a good deal
  6. Thanks for the tips! It is supposed to be down to 0deg F tonight... I don't thing I will be working on it till the weekend! On a positive note at 12deg F this morning it fired just as fast as it does when it's 100 out
  7. Nope! They are VMS racing tinted LED clearance lights Thanks for the compliments everyone! It took a lot longer than expected to complete but he did a great job. I can't wait to get the rest of it painted
  8. I only had the cab painted this time. It cost me 1500 which included labor for the cab and all materials to complete the whole truck including the topper. The bed, tailgate, and topper are going to cost me 500 more. I will be into the whole paint job for 2K! The guy is a good friend and he said the normal cost for the whole truck would be 5-6K
  9. Should I do this on the 3cyl high idle? I think it would be more noticeable then
  10. Here are some pictures of before and after my paint job. This thing looks as smooth as glass! I will add badges and the rubber molding after thanksgiving or Christmas.
  11. I have narrowed it down to one of the three rear cylinders. This morning it was 12deg F! Flipped to 3 cyl high idle and it was obvious that the miss was still there. What is the best way to check those cylinder temps? With the engine warm or the engine cold? Thanks guys
  12. Mine says I get 28mpg... It can NOT be trusted. I actually get right around 22 hand calculated. That is the only way you will know if your fuel economy is decreasing.
  13. I torqued each one to 89 in-pounds per cummins specs. I'm thinking loosen the injector lines, loosen the injector hold downs, snug the injector line, and re-torque the injector hold downs. That should make sure the crossover tube is properly seated into the injector.
  14. I did a little driving this morning. It seems like the miss gets somewhat worse as temperature increases. I also have fuel coming out of #3 and #4 next to the head. I will have to check and see if that is the O ring leaking or the injector line not seating against the crossover tube.
  15. None of the cylinders are completely dead, which is making this harder to diagnose. The new tube definitely helped, so I believe it is still fuel supply related
  16. Latest news on this: I just got back up to college. I went as planned and used an infrared temp gun. I found number 1 was 40-50 deg cooler than the rest. Number 6 was 10-20 degrees cooler than the rest as well. I decided to replace both of those crossover tubes to see if that would fix my issue. It definitely helped some, as the miss only sounds half as harsh as it did before and the exhaust has a less harsh miss feel to it. I didn't not have time to pull the valve cover and loosen the injectors before installing the new tubes.... So I'm hoping that is my issue. I forgot my temp gun at home so I won't be able to use that when diagnosing for the next couple days. Any thoughts guys?
  17. Give me till Monday and I will show you what I mean. The pin will still be on the outside
  18. You must be pretty brave to run 1300 all day on a 2nd gen. Most I would sustain is 1250. 1. You never know if your egt probe is exactly accurate 2. Number 6 is always running hotter than what the probe says because it is mixed with exhaust from 4 and 5. 15K is a pretty good size load... You are grossing over 20K with the weight of the truck
  19. Don't jinx me! These have worked like a champ from day one.
  20. WELCOME TO THE ELECTRIC SIDE
  21. Just make sure your fuel pressure is at an acceptable level. If your pressure is dropping too far you need to buy a bigger lift pump.
  22. Hmm... maybe I could recess a section of plate into the big plate that way the receiver would be almost flush
  23. This sounds similar to my issue, although I do not know if it goes away under a load. How bad is it missing? It it making the motor lope or just one cylinder seem to be messing up?
  24. I'm not sure I like the receiver.. Honestly I will not put one in my bumper when I build it, it was just a suggestion from some other guys. The two ears are for shackle mounts! Since we don't have factory tow hooks I figured I'd throw some in
