Plugged turbo wategate?
If your trans is stock and your wanting to tow, with no real plans of mega power I would see about getting the Smarty Jr instead. It's torque management and timing settings are better suited for towing and the stock trans. But if you keep the S06 I would run SW1 TM2 TQ1 RP1 WG-Off PoD99 to tow, and if your smart with your right foot you could run SW3 TM2 TQ2 RP1 WG-Off for mileage.

Another Wolf Attack in Emmett, Idaho
Without man Elk would probably still be on the plains with Buffalo, not in the heart of the Rockies where they are now. But even if Elk had moved to the mountains they would have been followed by Timber Wolves, a much smaller and less aggressive species. There is really nothing natural about the current situation, and you can't really compare it to Mountain Lions because they are all one species, it's not like we have African Lions in one region and Mountain Lions in the other. The species difference is also more than just size. Look at Brown Bears, 3 distinct forms but one species. Brown, Grizzly, and Kodiak's are all the same species, but are quite different in size. A Grizzly is the smallest, then Brown's, then the Kodiak's which can be 150% larger than a Grizzly.

But this would be like replacing the Apache's with Eskimos, sure they are native to the continent but not the correct breed. If your going to re-introduce something at least do it with the proper species, and location.. Really it's not even a reintroduction, it's simply an introduction.

Showing off my little 2008 Honda Rancher 420cc
We bought Honda Recon this summer. It's a 2006 250cc 2x4 model. I am very impressed by it, more power than I anticipated, sips fuel, handles very well and the kids love going for rides. We don't need it for anything other that putzing around when were camping, and it fits in the bed with the tailgate up and my toolbox.. with room along side it for a small pit bike. Great machines, they really are as good as everyone says. If I ever need a bigger 4x4 I will probably stick to Honda. Great looking machine!!

Another Wolf Attack in Emmett, Idaho
I got that in an email a few months ago. But that's from up north, not Emmett. As for the wolves in Idaho.. Wolves were never native to Idaho, as man settled west we pushed the elk (which are also not native to the Idaho mountains) west and turned plains animals into mountain animals. Timber wolves lived on elk in the plains and followed them to the mountains but were exterminated shortly thereafter. Man never got a chance to study wolves predating on elk in the mountains. Fast foreword to 1995. For some unknown reason people wanted wolves reintroduced into Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. They were never here of their own accord, but hey lets release some. Instead of releasing Timber Wolves they uses the Canadian Grey wolf, a larger and more aggressive breed. They are on average 20% bigger, but with the food source in Idaho that number is low. The wolves have done a number on elk, who were not accustomed to defending themselves against wolves in the mountains, especially ones this large and aggressive. So in short, they are not natural and should be killed off. I too don't go anywhere without a gun, but really have no fear of wolves, but want to fill my tags if I see one!

Plugged turbo wategate?
Stock boost is 28-32 based on load, but will hit 32 most WOT runs and settle at 28-30 empty and 28-32 towing. The Smarty jr and other tuners will disable the WG electronically and I have only an honest 37 psi once with the WG disabled and 35-38 is where most people say efficiency peaks. You will probably not hurt anything having it blocked, but on stock tuning you may get an overboost code and the drive pressure is insane above 32 psi of boost, but it's not common to be able to hold 32+ unless pulling a grade. A WOT run in 4th and 5th to 3000 rpms would get me about 33-34 psi of boost and 55-60 psi of drive.

Who Makes the Best Magnetic Oil Pan Drain Plug?
I got the oil changed yesterday and the magnetic drain plug and magnets installed. Next year when I change the oil again I will cut the filter open and check and see how much they accumulated. Since I got 50 of the little magnets I put:10: CTD Full Flow10: CTD Bypass5: CTD Coolant Filter5: CTD Fuel filter (BF1212, 1st in line)10: Jetta oil filter10: 4Runner Filter

HE351 or HE351VGT??
I figured as much.. you know me always throwing my around, if it's wanted or not!

HE351 or HE351VGT??
It's not a bad turbo, it spools super quick and has decent air. With towing it can support about 350 rwhp in the PNW, and probably more in flat land. It's just super inefficient! I really didn't like 8 psi of boost and 12 psi of drive going 80 on flat ground, or 30 psi of boost and 40-50 psi of drive pulling my trailer up grades. It's compressor is designed for hp and flow and it's turbine is designed for emissions. Not many of the TNT-R tunes will be nice to the stock turbo, TNT-R is designed for trucks with turbo, injectors, lift pump, CP3, trans, studs, etc... Regular Revo is what you probably want to put back on the truck, you can still get good hp out of it and it's designed with stock parts in mine. Since I got called out for hating , here is an example of it's efficiency, or lack thereof! All no load, in N. The GT3782 run cooler 95% of the time (low rpm towing is about 50-100° more, but that could also be from the manifold blankets) and supports my ~400 rwhp towing WOT up thru about 6500-7000 feet, where the HE351 ran out of at at about 5,500 feet and 350 rwhp. So the low boost on this test is not because the Garrett won't spool, it spools right here, right now when driving! If you go back a few years to when emissions wasn't such a big deal you will see no load boost numbers closer to what I have now. Again, the HE351 is not a bad turbo, it's just emissions minded (like the cam/OEM timing) that performance/efficiency.

Is it an 04 or an 04.5, and do you have any pic's of the mod?

2001 and 2002 motor difference
Agreed, use the 02 long block and 01 sensors/wiring/ECM.

Fuel pressure??
Can anyone confirm that the lid give you post filtered pressure? If the filter is outside/in then it should be from the middle and be outlet pressure.

01 24v horrible MPG and no coolant temp?
Bringing up the old thread. I was recently reading some info on low temp after-cooled QSB's, they have a 165° thermostat in them, and the min full load operating temp is still 160°. I still can see where a 130° stat would be used on B series diesel motor, it must be a natural gas application.
-
Auto High Idle?
It's hard on any diesel, there are Cat, Detroit, and Cummins bulletins about it. Min temp for full load is 160°, so use that as a guide.

Who Makes the Best Magnetic Oil Pan Drain Plug?
My magnets showed up yesterday, pretty strong for their size! They are defiantly stronger than the magnet on the drain plug.
-
Auto High Idle?
I would start it, let it idle for a few seconds and drive it easy until its warm. If your scraping windows then fast idle it. But don't just let it idle to warm up, it's hard on a motor.

2007 2500 5.9L Won't start - need some input before I buy a new CP3 injector pump
Good info!I wouldn't have even thought of that!

Great Snow Goose Hunting Weekend in SEMO
Very true! I am amazed at what some of our friends feed their kids. My kids prefer Elk to Beef, and Salmon above just about anything. Thou a freezer full of Elk, Deer, 1/4 beef (much better than anything store bought), 100+lbs of local chicken breasts, and Wild Alaskan Salmon will kinda ruin your palette for boxed food and anything but home cooking. Nearly every meal in our house is the "made from scratch" variety, thou it's just normal cooking to us. This unseasonably warm/sunny weather already has me thinking about camping and what were going to put in the garden this year.

MPG in my 05
Dodge has yet to put Urea on the pickups, it's on the C&C's as of 2010 thou. I do think it's a mistake as Urea can be used in conjunction with proper tuning to make a better product.

Great Snow Goose Hunting Weekend in SEMO
Not snow's but Canadian's... We see the occasional Snow, but not too often. I grew up hunting on the Washington side of the river near Umatilia, Or.. Lots of geese!

Finally camming it right!
I wouldn't run an exhaust brake with an aftermarket cam without a back-pressure gauge, you could easily create too much back-pressure (that is unless you have upgraded valve springs, 90# or 110#).
-
Finally camming it right!
With my Stage 1 I went from hitting peak pressure at ~2500 rpms to ~2100 rpms, but I haven't seen over 63# yet (what it would hit stock).

Finally camming it right!
Gotcha, I wonder if Geoff has changed his grind any (specs still look the same, stage 1 intake with a stage 3 exhaust)? When I got mine 2 years ago the Stage 1 was the towing/bottom end cam with the Stage 2 offering a little better performance once spooled, but at about 50° higher EGT's. I actually have yet to find anyone running the Stage 2, plenty of 1's and 3's thou. The big stick is a well liked cam, but I wasn't ever able to find anyone who has towed with it and an exhaust brake so I didn't want risk too much back-pressure when braking.
