  1. I sure will, is it under the hood? - - - Updated - - - Mike, do you how fast the scangauge updates? I think this ultra-gauge does it every 2 seconds.
  2. Ya, the ultra-gauge updates every 2 seconds I think. My ect plug got broke some years ago and I got another and wired it up but couldnt remember if I soldered it or not so I pulled it apart today. When I did, one of the wires pulled right out but the other was still intact and I did solder them but im not very good at it so I cut the old solder off and re did them today as good as I could. i am anal about things and its been driving me nutts, not the 188-194 swings but the 190-203 swings seems like to much to me. If it did it before I probably wouldnt think about it but I dont think it did. Blast that ultra-gauge for showing me these things.
  3. Shot a couple videos earlier, they are shacky but my truck rides like a wagon. The temp is on the left side in the middle, its a little hard to make out but you can see the fluctuation during normal cruising and acceleration. Put a heat gun on the t-stat housing yesterday and it read 178 while the ultra-gauge said 182. I ordered a new temp sensor from geno's earlier, dont think it will change anything but for less than $10 I figured I would try it.
  4. Mike, can you watch your engine coolant temp on the scangauge? If so, can you watch it next time you go out and see if it fluctuates and how much?
  5. I know alot of folks have temp fluctuation but I think it usually swings low instead of high. I had this trouble a few months ago and fixed it with a new water pump but its back again. I just had the radiator cleaned and rodded but it hardly had anything in it. Its got another new water pump and I have ran two different radiator caps. I have 3 different t-stats and they all fluctuate the same, two are 190 from napa and one is a cummins 180. I generally see swings from 190-203 or so, usually cruising it stays around 190-194 but will jump up to 197-199 for a second then back down. That doesent bother me as im reading those temps from the ultra-gauge and I think those are fine but when im getting on the interstate or accelerating it gets up to 203 or so and stays there for a few seconds on both the ultra-gauge and the dash gauge. I took it to the radiator guy yesterday and he put some kind of tester on it that is supposed to change colors if there is carbon dioxide present and it didnt change so im hoping its not the headgasket. When I come to a stop or so it goes back to 190 and pretty much stays there or gets cooler so i dont think its the fan clutch. Also after it idles for 10 minutes or so and I turn it off the fan clutch will spin for a few seconds after I turn the engine off but if I get off the highway and let the egts cool to 300 then turn the engine off the fan will stop just about as fast as the motor. I dont think I could put any kind of loaded trailer on this truck or it would probably overheat. Im lost here and just shy of pulling the head.:banghead:
  6. I feel your pain, its always one thing or another. I got a steering box braceput on and on the test drive my temp gauge starts jumping around again. While fighting that, today my convertor starts its lock, unlock BS and its worse than ever. Got some new battery cables made today and hopefully it will fix that problem but another will come up tomorrow.:banghead:
  7. I had mine settup just like you, on top of the canister and my pressure didnt change with the big line kit.
  8. Dang, that is bad. Common rails have upwards of 25k psi to the injectors.
  9. Filled up tonight for $3.39 a gallon.
  10. I wish I could get a pic of my temp gauge Mike, it sets right on the 32-33 degreese mark after a few minutes on the road.
  11. My 03 did this everytime too but the 98 is quiet.
  12. I have heard the filter in the 98-99 style wont flow as much fuel but I have never had a problem with mine. I recently added vulcan's big line kit to mine and it really didnt change anything from watching my fuel pressure gauge.
  13. Welcome to the fam:thumbup2:! If my fass ever fails me I will be going with the dtt pump too, its definatly the cheaper than the mitussa and fuel boss and looks better too. Let us know how it works out.
  14. I asked Lee about some rv275's for my grandpas truck and he quoted me $350.
  15. I want to do the vnt turbo too with the fleece but dang that thing is $600. I would like to try just a standard 351 but I want/need trans work first.
  16. This coolant hasnt been in 3000 miles yet and the coolant before that was in about 15k or so but im not sure about the coolant that was in it when I got it, it may have been in for 200k and 8 years?
  17. My father-in-law said I need to rod my radiator but I think I might just get a new one. How odes this one look? http://www.yourautocoolingsource.com/site/823209/product/CU1553 or http://www.fastradiator.com/ViewProduct.asp?ModelNumber=FAS-1553 - - - Updated - - - Just spoke with a radiator shop and they said $65 to clean it out so I guess I will try that.
  18. I dont know, never heard of that before. I thought it might be the sensor too but its stays in the operating range, I figured if the sensor was bad it might read really low or really high not almost right. Mike said maybe fan clutch time?
  19. How do you test the fan clutch? Mine has gotten up over 210 and I have never heard it kick on.
  20. I guess I have bigger problems because the new pump is doing the same thing.:banghead: - - - Updated - - - I put a 180 cummins t stat in it and now it floats between 180-190 or so but will go up higher for a split second. My ultra gauge updates every 2 seconds and it will say 183 and then 203 and then back down to 185 in 4 seconds but my factroy gauge doesnt move while its doing this. My factory gauge is floating between 180-190 or so though. There is no water in oil or vise versa but i fear its the headgasket.
  21. My swinging temps are back so I changed the t stat with no change, they are from 190-220. I just took the water pump off and its got some kind of crud built up on the impeller that I have never seen with my other pumps. It has had green coolant in it but I recently changed to the red and distilled water. here is the old pump and wonder if I should change to a different coolant too?
  22. I took my engine number to cummins and just assumed I would get a 190, well I shouldnt has assumed because it called for a 180. It was nearly $50 and the 190 was nearly $100 so I went with a napa unit. The t stat in my truck now isnt 3 months old but I will replace it tomorrow.
  23. Mine did the same thing a few years ago and it wasa the rear wheels speed sensor. Speedo lost its mind and abs and brake lights were on but I only have rear abs.
  24. Im gonna do it first thing in the morning. Thing is, its a new 190 from napa but im gonna try the old one I pulled out and maybe the new 180 from cummins just to see if it swings with it.
  25. My swinging temps are back, 190-226 and back down pretty fast but its staying around 200 for the most part. It seems like I get one thing fixed and another rises the next trip. I just put a big line kit on and a steering box brace, just got the injector lines to qquit weeping and now my temps are all over the place.
