  1. What exactly are these "toilet paper rolls" I hear about for the frantz setup? just curious, but with you being so far away from everything, wouldn't it pay you to order something like a filter from Geno's?
  2. I don't know much about the pros and cons of the stock fuel basket, other than the quarter tank issues and restrictions if you have and in tank LP, but I do know that Richard at Glacier Diesel Power strongly recommended that I should continue using the stock setup when I installed my Fuel Boss lift pump. I wanted to get a draw straw, but he said unless I was having issues with it, I should leave it be.
  3. I sent him a pm. Hopefully he will chime in. Thanks for the tip. As for the draining back to the pan, now I'm anxious to see how the current filter is when I take it off. Also appreciate the info on that. What oil and filter setup do you run Mike? I seem to recall you have a bypass setup, but you don't run synthetic?
  4. Interesting that you mention the flow back valve, because last time I changed oil, I noticed that my Fleetguard was only about half full or so. I had read about it in the past so didn't worry about it, but isn't that what the flow back valve is supposed to prevent? Also, is it true that the Donaldson ELF or the Baldwin are better than the Fleetguard LF16035?
  5. Hi all, So I'm getting ready to do an oil change and I realized that I'm paying almost as much for Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5w-40, which is full synthetic(not sure if it's group 3 or 4 though) as I would be for some of the Amsoil products which I know are group 4 base stocks. So I'm looking into switching to Amsoil. I'd like opinions on which version to use and if I should get a bypass filtration kit while I'm at it. I know they have several different diesel oils and I don't know which one I should use. I originally went with the Valvoline PBX because I wanted the 5w-40 and full synth for the cold temps up here. I can definitely hear when the oil gets to the motor which makes me feel a lot better about things. So I don't know if I should use 15w-40 with Amsoil since its synthetic or if I should still use the 5w-40 even though its recomend for newer engines. I'm also wondering how long I should go on an interval. I was always brought up on 3000 miles, but I know you'll all say that's crazy. So I'm looking to extend intervals and save some cash with this stuff being so expensive. I've read a lot about oils especially when deciding to go with the Valvoline PBX in 5w-40, so I know some general stuff. I'm just looking for some specifics and opinions and advice from you all. Thanks!
  6. Isn't that because the turbo provides back pressure?
  7. Never imagined I would find so many like minded folks on here :-)
  8. Thanks for the info! For me there are pros and cons to the 5". I would like the deeper tone that I think it would produce, and I think it looks cooler lol. But then I don't need/really want my truck any louder. I also don't want the drone to come in at any lower speeds. I also think fitting the 5" under the truck will be slightly tricky. It will definitely be really close to the trans and I'm almost positive there will be no chance of fitting my spare under there anymore. I've also read that going to 5" under 500hp has some negative effects too. So maybe I should try a tip and/or resonator and see what happens.
  9. I think people are nicer down your way too. I haven't spent much time in North Carolina, but I know down in Georgia and Florida they are....
  10. Just want to update this I case anyone is following. When I re drilled and tapped my manifold for moving my pyrometer, I checked up on the fuel leaks again. VP end was dry but the Fuel Filter housing end was still leaking. So, while the truck was cold, I snugged it up some more. Just wanted to give it one more try before throwing in the third set of fitting from Eric. Well it seems to have worked. I'm not sure what's different, but no more leaks at this point. I had already gotten the third set of fittings from Eric so I emailed him asking if he wanted me to send them back or pay for them, since I wasn't going to use them right now. I really felt bad taking free stuff from him since he was so helpful and all. Anyway he told me to keep them just in case I have issues in the future. He even told me he had hand picked and ink checked the set of fittings he had sent. He had left them together so that they would be matched. So I just want to say again how great it is doing business with Vulcan Performance and highly recommend them to everyone for anything you need that they sell!
  11. Yes I am very pleased with them so far. I always enjoy doing business with companies like that. Just like Eric over at Vulcan Performance.
  12. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I have 4" turbo back and like it very much as well. I just think it would be sweet if it could be a little deeper. What exactly does adding a resonator do?
  13. At what speeds/rpms does drone come in for you? I wonder how 4" with a 6" tip would change things....
  14. Just wanted to update this incase anyone is interested. I did send my pyrometer in to Autometer at their suggestion to be looked at. I sent it last Wednesday evening and received it back yesterday(Tuesday). So a pretty good turn around. I didn't hear anything from them while it was there, so when I saw the email from ups saying it was coming back, I emailed Dustin West at Autometer to ask about it. He replied the next day asking me to call him. I just did and he told me the gauge checks out 100%. He said he also had them send a new probe and harness back with the gauge though just incase, and told me to contact him if I had any more issues. So it seems that Autometer really has some great customer service! I got my pyrometer checked out and a new probe all for the cost of shipping the gauge to them! And I didn't even buy the gauge from them, It came on my truck!
  15. lol I can definitely relate to this! And my wife is very good with truck stuff. Plus I don't even get to see my immediate family as much as I'd like.
  16. Hmmm ok sounds like I'll have to stick with the 4 inch. Maybe I can find a tip to deepen the tone.
  17. I have been debating this as well. I would really like the deeper note of the 5 in. At what speed/rpm do you guys experience drone? On my truck I never noticed anything until I got up around 75-80. I don't really drive that fast at all, much less for an extended period of time so it's not and issue. Any ideas where I'd get the drone with a 5 in?
  18. Right before I sold my smarty I ran it for a week on catcher 5 with everything else default. I was doing 10 mile trips back and forth from work to home a few times a day. Most of the trip is rural highway running about 55-65, but there are some traffic lights near my house so some stop and go. I have 285/75's right now so I have to rev it out pretty good before I hit 5th, and sometimes stay in 4th depending if a slow poke is in front of me or not. Anyway with all that said I averaged 17.5. And that was with a little bit of fun with the catcher level 5. I also have BD 75hp injectors that came with my truck. I am thinking of downgrading(or upgrading depending on how you see it) to some rv275's though....
  19. I was thinking the same thing as I read all of these comments. I wish we all lived closer together so we could all meet up and hang out. I sometimes feel like we are/could be good friends even though a lot of us have never met.
  20. Agreed!! Sometimes makeshift stuff is ok, but not on something as picky and critical as an nv4500!
