  1. You Gained 7 degrees with engine off. Engine off and coolant, fan stops. Guess it gets hotter for awhile before heat dissipates? Wonder if there is a way to keep fuel flowing till it cools down. Sort of like a turbo timer but for fuel? If so wonder if keeping fuel or coolant flowing would be better. That's even if vp44 gets hot enough to melt electronics in vp44. Wonder what temp soldier starts to melt at? (Guess I'll start using my transfer tank more by putting it in a kiddie pool in bed of pick up and routing fuel line through it) ??
  2. Plus one for Vulcan also, Great guy. If doing over ( 2 things)... First. I would go with 150 gph. My 95 or 100 does job for mine fine but when I drained my fuel out of tank I used the pump to drain what was in the tank. I didn't take any measurements but it sure took longer to drain than what I thought it should for 95 gallons per hour. Vinyl tubing from Ace hardware hooked to pump made draining easier than other methods I've used in the past. 2nd... I would of planned out entire fuel line. Tank to vp44 to include snubbers, needle valve shut offs and fuel pressure gauge. And where you are going to mount pump.
  3. I'm newbie shortly past test and installing a airdog that works great. I have 95 or 100. Make sure you register with them. I would pass on drawstraw and just re-work fuel module with 1/2 lines. Drawstraws ok but spending money for same thing by just rigging up fuel module with bulkhead fittings and some drilled holes in module. Lots of info on this site. My fuel line...tank to airdog to vp44. Jic fittings at airdog and can remove and install cheap carter pump should airdog ever fail. Shut off valves at vp44... ease of changing filters or swopping out. But everybody has their own thoughts.
  4. Im pleased with my large pan from geno's. Probably not the cheapest. Temp probe screwed right in and takes longer to get up to higher temps and cools down faster. Operating temps on flat road I wonder sometimes if gauge is working. Overall pleased with spending that amount on piece of alum, now but not at the time of being separating from $$$. Maintenance owners manual conflicts itself if you read in the towing section then look at maintenance schedule. Brought to my attention by Cummins engineer that said his team told Chrysler but nothing ever happened.
  5. My (uneducated) thinking is the cooler the fuel, better for the electronics inside pump control unit?
  6. @unioncreek. Your truck a flat bed?
  7. How did union town or colton start... My brother in laws great grandfather donated some of his land. Because train would stop if the train had a spot where they could load grain and had to have mail service. Trucking too and unloading in Colfax took lots of time. At the time Colfax was the hub for loading grain from entire area. To this day don't go over speed limit, still a part time cop or is that Colton?
  8. Middle of wheat country... your name @unioncreek close to union town?
  9. I'm going with same tire. Local discount tire store... 28 installed. No bring backs or problems yet. I wanted to go to 16 inch. Add price of new rims but $$$ added up quick. Of course real test on those tires 4 or 5 years down the road.
  10. Do you have 2 inches in 5er pin that you can suck up so 5er tows level. Those airbags raise about 2 inches. I have trailer and those would of raised mine 2 inches...which hitch ball would not of cleared my tailgate. That's one good thing about 5er, no hitch ball clearance problems. Beyond that seems they treated you right.
  11. My old gauge exactly the same. Got new gauge just because had to drop tank, so why not? Now all I get is low fuel sign in dash. Irritating
  12. Welcome... great bunch of helpful guys here.
  13. Sounds like foot hills area? We're down in poverty flats at the escapees park. But our neighbors dog did win the "fastest chihuahua in Summerton" race last year. We are south east of Marine Corp air station on east county 17th. After the fass/airdog crime committed again me in Yuma I now carry a carter backup pump. Jic fittings...takes me about 20 min to switch over. If ever stuck on road again, at least I can limp to someplace better. Or use backup pump till fass/airdog replacement pump comes in. Ok welcome aboard.
  14. Thanks for the offer. I'll Jerry rig something and test the device with air first. Good thing I'm not getting paid by hour or job. Why dont we close this out now as not right section to talk about gas stuff. Just tried to get a quick question in wondering if diesel test gauge would work. Thanks
  15. Have harbor freight gauge in trash right now. That's reason for finding another way. And Only about year old. It's more of a challenge for me other than getting a new one. Auto zone about same quality but more thin plastic connectors. Not knocking harbor freight. Have 3/4 inch torque wrench and calibrate it when tire shop rotates tires. Been right since I got it about 4 years ago.
  16. Ok... what about tire pressure gauge?
  17. Couple items... 1st ...gauge to be used on 5.4 Ford gas engine. I believe book says fuel psi 20 thru 40 is ok, as enough psi to push gas to injectors and gas pump is "ok". 2nd item. (Dont laugh) being port is a schadier valve...going to break out bicycle pump that has cheap gauge and see what happens. I'll double check psi numbers. I can't see taking the chance with $65 dollar gauge. Thanks
  18. Thanks so much. I didn't think about to much pressure messing up calibration. I see a fill port plug but dont see screws to adjust. I better get a cheapy from auto zone and not take chance. Thanks again
  19. What do you guys think...have Vulcan fuel pressure test gauge. It goes zero to 30 psi. I want to test my 5.4 gas fuel pump. Looking for 20 thru 40 psi. Will gauge break if it goes or (max) 30 psi or will gauge just top out. And I assume vulcans test gauge doesn't care if diesel or gas?
  20. Tks for responding. Guess I was trying to say... I associate certain bands names with their quality. Such as I would never go through the hassle of dropping gas tank and installing a harbor freight fuel pump. Was wondering if the bosch name is overall good or not. Only thing I've ever touched that is bosch is the vp44. Which there is a lot of problems on here about them. But the gov't changed their soldier and fuel specs. So not sure if problems with vp44 is something that is entirely their fault.
  21. Are bosch products above average or so so. I'm planning on couple of months to add a line fuel pump to a small class C RV. Going to be under the thing messing with other stuff so might as well add inline pump, in case regular in tank fails. And only want to do this job one time. This is GAS not diesel. Custom welding shop guys say they like bosch 044 and hard to go wrong with bosch. I dont need that kind of psi. Only 20-40 psi on small V8 Have you had any experience with bosch products other than vp44? What do you think about their products or who makes a good gas inline GAS fuel pump?
  22. @Snowbird...Yes bad experience in Yuma. Since then found this web site. I used to have zero interest in fixing mine other then changing oil. That was until they got ahold of me and I spent about $3,000 total in Yuma. Now I have computer loaded with good Cummins stuff and about 200 pounds of tools. The only time our truck was at dealer was when it was new to us about month old and lift pump quit in 2005. Dodge said pump not covered by warranty. Even though the paper work said includes mechanical. They said that Dodge Corp considers "mechanical" to be inside the internal engine. So that was last time our truck was at a dealer. And last warranty we ever bought. Other than the stopping at the Yuma dealer who said 2 week wait just to check what was wrong. That hill outside of Yuma going to San Diego is a pain. I'm stock power and end up driving by what EGT's are. I don't go over 1200. Right now I don't know if I'll ever make it back to Yuma or not. Wife has some medical issues that were supposed to get better. But its been since 2016 that DR's keep say give it more time. She can't get up steeps to RV and looks out the window everyday at "her" RV. ...In any case, I have to get to Yuma someday just to get all the stuff out of our shed and sell our lot if we have to. We've had a lot down there since 08 but have only used it 4 years. Good thing dues aren't much as we put our lot into rental pool, we've have only paid dues 1 year because street got paved and cost the park a fortune. The three mechanics that we used, usually ordered parts from Southwest diesel in Phoenix or Scottsdale most of the time. And every part shipped "overnight air" from Phoenix for additional "overnight fee". Which is really when UPS or Fed Ex got around to delivering. And a good mark up for mechanic. I want to start carrying a spare VP44 but hurts me that the deposit is only good for so long of time. Right now I do carry a carter pump as a back up just in case my Airdog goes out. At least the carter pump might make it to Calexico, CA where couple good diesel mechanics are. Yuma also has some good mechanics but they are so busy, hard to get in taking care of there customers. Usually farmers that they have been taking care of for years. Or rich Canadians from their "wild rose" oil country. But this last year not so much because their dollar is so weak. The Airdog I have is because when my FASS broke. (I keep getting names mixed up) The second mechanic called us and said wants our truck out of his place, little alone our truck parked by fence for over a week with the fuel tank out laying in bed. That was because his farmer customer brought in some big water pumps to be worked on. So truck was towed to another place they recommended. I said great the other place can get right on it. I didn't know the mechanic couldn't read directions or understand English and other mechanic recommended Airdog because his friend could translate for him. So that's why we ended up with an Airdog. Looking back sounds funny but total cost of little over $3,000 its not. That also includes towing from Yuma proving grounds to real close to the Loves truck stop area. I'm glad you're found this site. Everyday reading here I understand how much I don't know. There are some real experts on here that can get in depth. Way over my head about 3/4 of time. I picked up a Fluke volt meter and still learning how to use it. OK gotta go
  23. Your young... Idaho loggers will have sleeper cabs on their trucks just to get a load by the time you get old.??
  24. Dont know how your roof is held down along sides. Many newer rv,s roof is rolled over edge and held in place by metal trim that doubles as rain gutter. Supposed to have putty tape behind trim/gutter. As a safe guard I caulked where trim/gutter meets roof to keep water flowing and not even take the chance of water getting behind trim/gutter. Might be worth a talk with dealer if OEM didn't caulk there.
  25. Yes Yuma is good place to be located, couple hours from everything. Wasn't to good for us when lift pump broke. Spent a lot on 3 mechanics. Didn't know anything about fuel system at the time and our RV lot, park wouldn't let me drop tank. Dealer was 2 weeks out, 310 diesel repair put us thru many troubles. Ended up coming me back home from Yuma to Seattle, up I-5 with diaper wrapped around leaking fuel tank. Changing diaper on fuel tank messier than diaper on grandkid ??
