  1. From my experience the oe starter lasted 5 years, the first replacement 5 years, the second replacement 5 years. The third is 2.5 years into its life. So we will see if itmgets more than 5. Now the oe fan clutch is going on its 18th year this October. The AC stays pretty steady as long as I keep the widow up, but I still like it down for the fresh air. Always have.
  2. That ground is definitely different from the later models. No solder on them just some the wire smashed together with some funky looking sealer and shrink wrap on them. Happy for your sucess.
  3. I have run 19 to 20 psi for the past 8 years. Nothing wrong with 18 psi either.
  4. Mine has always been key on about 1/2 second bump, bump the starter, no engine start, about a 25 second lift pump run.
  5. I talking with @Leaky88 about the issue he tells me he has another lift pump that only runs 13 psi and when he put that on it fires right up hot or cold. The pump he has on there now puts out 20 psi and that one hard starts when hot.
  6. Might very well be. I only got about 7 years out of the OE. The auto zone replace has 10 years on it. It is working fine right now as far as operating the clutch.
  7. Sitting in mine and have the same play in it. I can put my foot under the pedal and move it up about an inch. Never really given it a thought. There no adjustment that I know of for that unless you have aftermarket hydraulics with an adjustable clutch rod. Cant see that it hurts anything though.
  8. I had go back and reread the original post. I dont remeber seeing that the first time I read it. Pretty important clue. @Leaky88 its time to get the volt meter out. And you ought to think about doing Wt's ground mod.
  9. Let us all rember that if the ecm is used to run the lift pump and that there is no factory relay to the stock lift pump. The FASS and AD both come with a wring harness with an after market relay. If connected to the ECM pigtail to the aftermarket lift pump the ECM still has control. It should cycle the lift for lower pressure during starting. Mine still does after 8 years with the AD. I would ask the OP what fuel pressure you see when your truck has the hard starting issue? Could be the ECM loosing control.
  10. A couple things I see as strange is a 10 second fuel run at key on. That shouldn't be but a quarter to half second blip of the pump on. The ECM shoild cycle the lift pump on and off to reduce pressure for cranking, you should see around 10 or 12 psi while cranking. Your second lift pump at 13psi letting the engine start is telling me the ECM is not doing that. Not saying your work around of the problem wont work. That is above my paygrade.
  11. I almost did this when the head was off. Just could not make myself do it. And I did no tell my truck about it.
  12. Most of her food good I will give her that. The time I am getting with her is priceless. I am trying real hard to do that. The funny thing is last week I told her when I cook chiken it is for chicken salad. Cause the only you can eat mine is with mayonnaise. It is the 15 40 lube your Cummins likes. @gassernomore I think you just need to find a good used food truck. Sorry for the hijack. The sun made me do it. Damn its hot.
  13. I dont think the fins have a thing to do with the clutch locking up. The spring/t stat on the front locks it up. I believe the the fins just help keep the fluid in the clutch cool. I never hear my fan lock up at idle and since my truck is my office for now I am idling 3 to 4 hrs a day easy in 92* heat with Mr sun baking all day here Georgia. But I wil, be interested in seeing what comes of an oe fan clutch swap. I still have my oe on mine after 17.5 years and 474k miles. It almost seems to me they thru a part at a conceived problem and were u sucessful.
  14. Funny thing though is my niece cooked some chicken breast on the grill last night. I got me a piece with some tater salad and sat down to eat it. That chicken came from @JAG1 alternator. She must of grilled for a half our. The polite man that I try to be did not complain. Her husband got home late and she fixed him a plate and he tried to eat it but could not stick his fork in it and expressed that to her. She comenced to explaing that white meat chicken is just that way dry and hard. I had to get up and go to bed because I was real close to falling o the floor laughing. I am laughing and typing right now. I am blessed to have this time with her. We have not seen each other since her mother died 15 years ago other than a few calls. But I got to tell her its your cooking and not the chicken.
  15. Now we got to figure whether to call it scorched or broasted. Course once they figure what Denso means we probably aint sellin' much.
  16. So did you cook a chicken on it?? Hate to see you miss an opportunity.
  17. Mine went 7 years ago and it saw little armor all. My truck sits on dusty job sites jobsites constantly. The armor all seemed to be a dust magnet after using it so I stopped for the most part. I just use a wet rag to get the dust every 4 weeks or so. Maybe I did not let the dust get thick enough to bock the sun.
  18. The foam kit is not a bad idea. The oe stuff has got to be shot. My dash made it 11 years before a hole started. Mine sits in the sun pretty constant. I had the intank pump also. Worked good for about a year before low pressure started causing problems. My oe vp died at 75k, the next I replace at 217k and the one I currently have is at 257k and still going strong. At 474k the truck runs pretty darn good in my opinion.
  19. Good advice above for the health of the truck electronics. Lost my oe ECM back in 2010. Was not any fun. You can carry a spare but what if the tranny goes or the PCM or the fuel pump or anything else that might stop the truck. I would not hesitate to pack my 02 and go anywhere. If it breaks, it breaks and I will have to deal with it. What ever I carried as a spare would not be what broke.
  20. I did mine including an LMC dash pad replacement about 7 years ago. The only Hvac hard parts I replaced was the connector from the blend door to the motor. Also the evaporator and heater core. I also replaced the foam with like replacements from the hardware store. Still working fine. I think you would have to see what you see when it's apart. If you have the in tank pump get a gauge now. It may hold a year or more or fail tomorrow.
  21. The funny thing for me was that I was a Jerseyan for a year back in 1959. My dad took a job up there. We moved from NC. Went to first grade up there. My dad didn't like it there and we moved back to NC after school was out. My mom used to tell me any time I read to her for the next couple years I had a Jersey accent.
  22. The ATP ony has a 50k warranty. But I have exceeded that on all of mine. But most of mine is highway. But never any better mileage out of the Michilen LTX. Ran a set of Cooper HT tires once because of the price difference and only got 40k out those. Ended up costing more per mile. Took a while to go back to Cooper but happy I did.
  23. That might explain the deeper tread. I can get the AT3's a bit cheaper, about 10 to15 bucks a tire. But I cant turn my back on the mileage and the ATP's do good in the mud on site and the snow I have dealt with. They have been a good all around tire for my use. But you and I travel different roads it would seem.
  24. I am on my 4th set of Cooper ATP,s from Discount tire. Near 65k out of the first 2 sets. Same as I got out of Micheline LTX's. The 3rd set I got 80k out of. Not sure why the big difference. I run alot of high way miles but no different than on the first 2 sets. IIRC the ATP's have a slightly deeper tread than the AT3's. 2/32's I think.
