VP44 Offset Key
The key allows the shaft to rotate to a different position in the pump gear as the key picture @Mopar1973Man posted demonstrates. The tapered shaft does nothing for timing.

Then others are going 46 years with the same woman. Here's to all the choices.

VP44 Offset Key
My apolagies, I should have been clearer. It aligns the pump shaft and not the pump. The pump gear and the pump are fixed. The only sesor there reads off of the cam gear. If it was me, I would get the right key just because I would not want to take it apart again to replace it. But who knows maybe you'll get lucky.

VP44 Offset Key
You definitely need the exact key. Cummins may have them I dont know. You could call Diesel Auto Power or anyone who sells the rebuilt pumps to source one I would think.
-
VP44 Offset Key
You have a cam sensor and not the crank and cam sensor. As far as the key is concerned I believe it is offset slightly to align the pump with the cam gear for timing purposes. If it is not aligned the truck timing is off and the truck runs like crap. The key is numbered and replacements can be bought. The key number is engraved on the pump also, just dont remember where.

Tappet cover
I chalked them up to spare parts. I just put one on from Mahle that came with them. The Felpro I put on 6 or so years did not come with them. I have never seen mine leak from the bolts.

A cheer from Northern Norway
I did get off the interstate St Louis by mistake once near the arch. It put me in a part of town I had no business in. Didn't talk to anyone on that detour.

A cheer from Northern Norway
I have actually spent some time in the midwest. Couple jobs in Ohio, one in Terre Haute, and 2 in Iowa. There's hillbillys every where I go it seems. And @LifeRunner, thinking a dated a girl from Norway. An exchange student in my senior year in high school. Budil Osk was her name if I spelled it right.

Any more "trucks" like yours. Not so much slang as my bad habit of omitting words.

P1693 with NO companion code
I could probably buy a nice used on for what I spent on the tires. But before I jumped into the HG replacement I kept looking under the hood thinking of how bad I could screw this up. But this, like other things I have tackled, went well with the help and encouragement of the folks here. You cant beat the satifaction from doing it yourself. About 1800 miles on the HG and all is well. Gang in there @Marcus2000monster. This will turn out good.

P1693 with NO companion code
I have to agree you gave up pretty quick. But the complexities of learning it is holding me back somewhat. That and cash. Between the head gasket replacement, injectors, new tires and such, I spent about $3k. Got to pay that off first.

P1693 with NO companion code
I have experienced a fuel knock on mine. First on my Rv's with about 120k on them. The next time on the 50's I replaced them with with ahout 60 or 70k on them. From reading here I always thought it was from pop pressure getting weak. Mine was not constant either, heard it the most when stopping at red light while cruising around town or getting off the interstate. If I understand it right the weaker pop pressure will advance the timing on that one cylinder and hence the knock??? I dont know that for sure, just my feeble attempt to understand it. My knock would would go away after 15 or so seconds off idling. Thatbwould be more like the armored moped. Cash is tight these days.

I think we all agree it is just eye candy. Sooooo @Silverdodge........

Vp44 pump
I didn't know there was 3rd outlet there for anything. Beside it being a bad place for the sensor, will that port read supply pressure?

98.5 QC seatbelts
Are the solenoids the same for both passenger and driver? If so I might can help. I srill have my old seats. Might have time this or next week end to open them up and see whats in there. I do have to say that my seat belt light at the time I pulled them out was on. Many years it started coming off and on irregularly. For a while I could get it to go off just by pushing on the latch. I always figured it was the connection in the latch itself. The seat belt would still lock up and not extend. When I installe my new to me seats the light turns off as soon as I connect the belt. Reading your last post it would appear they are different. I will look and see anyway. I need to strip the old ones of usefull things and get rid of the rest anyway.

Head gasket replacement
I think I am going to let 500k be my million. Should be able to make that just before I retire. I did clean up the valve cover and took a sander to the brushed aluminum portions and then shot a coat of clear matt finish on it.

Head gasket replacement
2 reasons. One, i made the better part of 464k miles with it looking like this so I figured whats a couple hundred more. Plus the head looks pretty much like the block. I did however polish all the heads of the head bolts, bet you missed that. Two, I did buy some high heat ceramic based paint. Guess I should have read the instructions. It required 3 different bakes in the oven at different temps with cooling cycles. Everything was too big for the wifes oven. So it just went back on as it came off. I did paint the tappet cover with the paint but it would not fit either. I noticed when I was fitting the new gasket that it was scrapping the paint off. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.

I rember that. Cant help but wonder how much flack he might get this day and time for doing the same thing.

Stanley's Truck Remodel- Dove in Head First!
No need to pull the motor for the tappet cover, but you need to remove the VP to get to the one bolt. Just did mine while the head was so I did not have to remove the VP. The first time I replaced it was leaking a butt load of oil.

Questions about intake things
Cant say I have not dropped some bucks on my truck for the same reason. Feels good to step back and admire those kind of purchases. They do seem to be more brain performance purchases and that ain't all that bad for the right price.

Questions about intake things
I have not run either but what i have read here has always convinced me that the stock intake is about as good as it gets on the 2nd gens. The prices you quote seem pretty good I just dont know for sure that you would see any benefit other than the looks. Others may have different opinions on that.
