  1. I got mine at Rock auto for half the NAPA price.
  2. NO!!! i used the ball joint press against the cap and and the other side of the press around the yoke. SFH=small efing hammer. By that i mean I cranked down on the press as hard as I could and then hit the end of the screw with a 16oz hammer and it moved. Then repeated until it popped out. Quite easy actually. Mike told me he uses his impact to do the same with his. When I do the rear drive shaft I am going to do the same and see how that works. The biggest thing you dont want to do is bend one of the ears of the yoke. Sounds to me like I need to stop at your house on the way to Idaho and help with your u joints and then head to Idaho and get my head gasket done.
  3. Yes. I used my ball joint press. Some beating was required however. Using the SFH.
  4. My front end parts lasted 240k. Some parts probably still had some life in them but I just replaced all of it. I still have the original u joints and carrier bearing on the drive shaft with 455k on them. I just repalced the front axle ujoints about 40k ago. I replaced those with greaseable since i had them on hand. So I would say the sealed is pretty good. Can I get the same quality as came on the truck, maybe not. Who knows what the differnces are today. Just bought a new SKF carrier bearing with Made in China stamped on the box, not necessarily a bad thing but we will see. I also found some new old stock ujoints for the drive shaft manufactured back around 2000. I like sealed just one less thing to worry about. Now will I get the same service out of them. Time will tell.
  5. While I do a lot a stuff to my truck, mounting tires has and never will be one I have a desire to do. The balancing beads do interest me. Read alot of good things here about them. Do you reuse them or replace them with the new tires?
  6. What is it going to cost for mounting, balancing, and the occasional rotation?
  7. My goal us to get everything on my truck back to no grease fittings like rolled out of tbe factory.
  8. My new ones came with new threaded clips to. Kind of if figured they would go before the bolts would.
  9. Seems most of those bolts are as WT describe in his thread, 5mm X 1.5 IIRC. But a few have thers to be a 6 mm. They seem differ a little.
  10. Funny thing is i have noyhing on terminals since doing the ground mod. Just keeping an eye on it for now to see how long this lasts. My bolts dint have hooks, tney have the metal clips with threaded holes in them. They have taken a beating over the years but still work. I have 4 brand new ones wainting install one day.
  11. I bought a Cummins tstat once. According to Cummins mine came with a 180 in it, but i took 190 out of it and the gauge always read around 193.
  12. My brake and abs were on and after replacing both front hubs and the rear sensor the light stayed on for 6 weeks or so before it went off. Been of for 3 or 4 months now.
  13. What the heck its only my head gasket leaking, I'll get the quad first.
  14. Well after hearing for years about how picky the 5600 is on oil I am just reading along and seeingmwhat becomes of this. I run Penzoil in mine since the first change. I have enough at home for one more change and will stick with it for now. I do want to get my spare 5600 rebuilt and figured it was going to Super Stick for the rebuild. So I will just keep reading for now and see what Cody has to say.
  15. I agree on the oul trick. Since doing the ground mod, my batteries have stayed dry as a bone with no sign of any corrosion. Just a little rust on one the bolt heads. Strange.
  16. I carry a rubber chicken for fun. It is not edible or chokeable for those that might inquire.
  17. I carry a assortment of hand tools, a spare serpentine belt but no real spare parts. If I carried any something else would break. Might carry a spare lift pump if I can get the failed one working. But I dont see the back country in mine.
  18. Check it for trouble codes. Take a little guess work out of it. Lift pump fuse blown? VP?
  19. I have been using filterspro.com. Even with shipping i have saved a little money. I believe with a $200 order you can get free shipping. I think I saw that offer right after my last order. That is buying in quantity.
  20. I get credit for something that does not involve chicken. It is a gold star day. You have to admit it looks like the inards of muffler. I am probably going to give it a try when I swap out the air filter. There is a lot intake noise that comes thru the BHAF.
  21. Sounds like that truck is doing you right.
  22. Some days are easier than others if you know what I mean.
  23. Should have seen my wifes face when I took her to Maryland with me for my last trip to that job. She wanted to take the Saturn. Me in the Saturn for an 8 hour, no fricking way. So after cleaning the cab and hosing down the inside with Fabreeze, I grabbed all of her air fresheners out of the Saturn and stuck them on all my vents in the cab. My popularity went up a couple notches on that move.
  24. One of mine failed 2 days after replacing the first one. Took me 3 week ends to do the first one myself. That thing just did not want to come apart. This was before I knew about forums or such. But the other failed right after repairing that one and it was exciting to say the least. Fortunately is was empty and only going about 40 mph and I was only a mile from the job. Got mobile mechanic that worked for my grader to fix that one. Thats when I learned the true meaning BFH. I had no idea you could beat on something so hard and not destroy everything around it.
  25. I saw the humor. We are good on that.
