The Future of Trucks
I would like to find the part of the grid that lets hook up to a diesel pump for free. 45 seconds a day would keep me happy.
-
Heater/HVAC Air only goes to Defrost Vent
If you knocked the vacuum line off the pump yes, both would fail. The vacuum line to the hvac runs acroos the fire wall and thru on the passenger side. It is possible for that line to fail and the 4wd to stil work. But mine is an 02 and could be different. My advise would be to check the vacuum lines out from the pump to the manifold and the branch lines to their terminations. My line faied to the hvac near the firewall, then a bit later somewhere under the dash. I have to admit l am not up on the vacuum system routing on a 98.5.

Changed turbo and exhaust manifold - now I have white smoke under acceleration
3 kids in diapers is enough to melt anyones smeller. As I remeber there might have been some white smoke coming out of a couple of mine at the same time.

HE351W on sale
I dont know how they figure out deliveries. I ordered my wiper and other parts on Sunday the 7th from RA. Chosemthe cheapest shipping, USPS, and delivery was expected on the following Thursday. Turns out they went Fed ex ground and arrived on Wednesday. Needless to say I was pretty darn happy with that for the cheap shipping. Maybe I ought order thru Amazon and we can have some target practice when the drone comes. Will the fun never end.

Axle u joint question
I have pulled both front axles from mine at least 3 times over the 19 years l have had it with no issues and it has the CAD axle. Juat dont use abnormal force reinstalling them, they should go in easily. They both have to go thru a seal to be reinstalled and you dont want to booger them up.

The Future of Trucks
Well they are coming for sure and will be a big part transportation sooner than we think. A lot of progress being made at a pretty quick clip.
-
Axle u joint question
They were both the same on my 02. I just pulled both my shafts and replaced the ujoints. I have not heard of anything that would fall into the diff. Lets see what some others might say in reference to that.

Solid State Relay for ECM-Controlled Lift Pumps?
My 02 is the same as @Tractorman. 1/4 second or 2 seconds, I just cant what possible difference it could make. If your truck is a late year 01 it is probably more like an 02 tan an 01. I think Dodge fun tweaking things on the vp trucks.

I believe you are talking about a 3rd gen or newer. She has a VP truck and did not touch the injectors, just a new turbo and exhaust manifold. Your morning coffee on yet?

Never retorqued either of mine after the HG install. I dont think that is necessary. Thoughl have heard of exhaust bolt trying to back off. Thats what the metal straps were on them from the factory. Been 60k on mine since with no issues. I didn't torque the turbo but did torque the manifold.

Changed turbo and exhaust manifold - now I have white smoke under acceleration
Pretty easy to deal with, just turned around and went back and reinstalled it. But l cant say it didnt freak me out until I found the problem. A lot if bad things were going thru my mind. Pretty obvious when I pulled the valve cover.
-
What do you mean?
Their stock value probably decreased when that thing blew.

HG=head gasket. When I adjusted the valves l thought l had tightened the pushrod adjustment on #6 intake but the wrench was hitting the rocker and made it "feel" tight. Came loose about 1/8th of mile down the road. Couldn't believe how much white smoke came out from one cylinder missing.

Boost has a lot control over the amount of fuel to the engine. But if it was un burnt fuel in the form of white you have smelled it. I lost one cylinder after my HG instal due the bridge coming loose on the intake valves. At idle it produced a lot smoke but wreaked of diesel fuel. Choked when Itook a big whif. Anti freeze will put out a very distinct smell also. Maybe it is just that turbo with a near stock engine thats the culprit. Somone smarter than me will be along with an answer. I cant imagine it would hurt to test drive it and see if it clears up with a load on the engine as long as everything else seems normal.

You say you have not driven it so I assume the white smoke is from free revving it in driveway? What does it smell like?

Milestone, sort of........
This is why we have to stay in the space ship. I have told you astronuts time and again, dont play in the vacuum.

Coolant leak
I was lucky and had my skinny son helping, between 2 of us we got them in.

Milestone, sort of........
I dont know who started it but fine job of hijacking was done. And @Doubletrouble we appreciate the opportunity the you presented us. Congrats on the 150k. Yes, as long as we all stay in the space ship.

What do you mean?
After stepping up to the Cummins from the V10 l lost a lot of friends. They all worked at gas stations.

Milestone, sort of........
Just put it in perspective. The moon maybe 240k miles away but its diameter 2160 or so miles. A lot of the details you can see are miles in size yet small to us with the distance. Size matters. When I lived Marietta ga I used watch the planes coming in and out of Dobbins AFB. The C5A's would almost seem to be floating they were moving so slow. Then I got to see one up close and they are huge airplanes. Thats whenI realized that the ones I was seeing were mile or more off. No atmosphere or weather on the moon to erode them away like here on earth. No atmosphere also allows you to see the details better. We do still have some on earth just google it. Just another reason why I dont like electrical work. And as usual I see my old buddy @IBMobileis messing around in the classified pictures again.

Coolant leak
I replaced my dash pad, the heater core, and the evaporator all at the same time. Took the passanger side loose snd let the drivers hang on the bolt. Wirked pretty good except there a screws that attach the pad to the back side of the dash. The last 2 or 3 were fun to get to.

Coolant leak
Mine was not that quick by any means. I day for dash removal, one day for HVAC box rebuild, and one day to put it back together. I did my dash pad also and that slowed reassembly a bit. Had my skinny son over for help to reach the pesky little screws holding the dash pad to the dash. Still all in all a straight forward job.
