Why would a draw straw be abandoned?
Would not want to leave the supply connected to the VP to test the pressure? Ditto on the return line. The VP return and cylinder head return join together at tee near the rear of the engine.

Paint
Kick plates on hollow metal will do that over time.

Why would a draw straw be abandoned?
I dont know why you would put one in one day and write it off the next. It does appear to be on the corner of the tank and might have caused some issues being above the bottom of the tank.

Engine Stutter/cough on acceleration...is vp44 bad?
Welcome to the forum. The VP 44 is not something to be dreaded. Mine has 170k on it with no signs of letting go. A few other members have more on theirs than I do on mine. You just need to learn how to take care of it.Not sure what your issue is but with out any codes your VP is probably OK. You would be better of starting your own thread on this to be sure it does not get mixed up with this one. Could just be a hiccup and nothing to worry about. Again welcome.

Exhaust
I put a rag in the manifold to catch the filings when I did mine 10 years ago. Do your best to catch them and you will be ok. You should not leave enough of any thing to hurt anything. Post turbo you wont really know what is going on with your EGT.

Reliability just tanked this morn.
I dont know about the Touch, but the wheels and tires looks like you got a good deal.

Exhaust
I was a little sarcastic in my previous post, but if you just want to replace the muffler with a piece of pipe a muffler shop should be able to hook you up with some 3". That would get you by until you can get what you want.

Issue that has everyone stumped!! Rough Running truck
Does it act the same on full tank of fuel as it does with the tank low? I am thinking fuel myself. Either a restriction or air getting in.

wipers don't park
The wiper controls are in the multi function switch on the steering column. this would be my guess. I dont know any way to test it.

How Noisy is Your Engine at Idle?
Never saw any setting on my SG that would. You might just turn the Comp off. The only thing it does in the off mode is boost fool, unless there is something wrong with it. I ran mine off for a good while due to weak clutch. I got no extra power just boost fooling which I needed at the time.

How Noisy is Your Engine at Idle?
Pretty sure timing is controlled by the computers and with out some sort of tuner that will allow you to change the timing you are stuck with whats there. There are others here that know a whole lot more about this than I.

Mopar1973Man took a day off to play...
looks to be a beautiful drive up there. 23 MPG to boot. A win win in my book.

New guy with questions-added a few pics
Welcome to the forum, that is a good find. I personally have never been exact on the 2 stroke. I normally fill up around when the fuel light comes on which is about a 32 gallon fill up for me. Might go a little longer or less so I am not always exactly 1 oz per gallon but close. Lot of opinions on that and I am not saying any one is wrong, just my opinion. Fuel pressure gauge is something you want to look into soon. To low a fuel pressure can ruin your injection pump and get expensive. There are alot of good articles on this in the articles section. You might look into a aftermarket fuel pump unless one might be on there already. The idle should be steady all the time after the engine temp is up. You have a good truck there and few improvements will make it a great truck. I have 387k on my 02 and she is still going strong. Enjoy the journey. You will find plenty of help here.

Weight of empty fuel tank?
Picking up one end of the tank at a time sent the wight to the end I was not trying to hold up. The only time I had to lift the full weight was after the tank was out from under the truck. I would have to go with Mike on the empty weight of the tank. Never had mine out empty but was not difficult with some fuel in it,

Weight of empty fuel tank?
I took mine off twice once with about 2 or 3 gallons in it and once with 6 or 7 gallons in it. Neither time was difficult. I did stack some cribbing under it for it to rest on after unstrapping and removed it piece by piece to let it down. Never actually had to pick the whole tank up at once until I got out from under the truck. This was during my AD install, now all I would have to do is pump the fuel with the AD to make easier.

Airdog thru sump and Carter thru draw straw?
I dont have a back up system but sometimes think it would be nice. Lost my AD pump about 1.5 years ago and it would have been nice to have. I think it is you preference if you want one. It should work as you describe though the fuel will be unfiltered where stock you would have a screen to keep any big stuff out of the Carter. Not sure how big of an issue that would be though since hopefully you will never have to use it.

Teardown and Rebuild
Mine are not so pretty anymore. I am pretty harsh on them. The whole truck actually. Always scratching up the bed getting things in and out. Time to spend a little money on some cosmetics, soon I hope.

Fuel tank and In-tank pump vs engine mounted lift pump help
Thanks @JAG1. I learned alot about the fuel system. Started about 2 weeks after I paid almost a grand for my lovely in tank fuel pump. Expensive lesson.

Same here buddy. I am going to try and swing it. I am looking forward to it.

Fuel tank and In-tank pump vs engine mounted lift pump help
I have never tried to rent one but have heard some places have them. I dont know who does but thought it would be worth asking.

Fuel tank and In-tank pump vs engine mounted lift pump help
Not to worry @01cummins4ever. Thats what we are about. Putting good info in the right hands to solve problems. I would rather see it twice than not at all.

Fuel tank and In-tank pump vs engine mounted lift pump help
My AD came with the wiring harness with the fuse and relay. The oe plug for the pump plugged into that to operate the relay. You need to pull power from another source to the relay. That will take the power load off of the ECM. That is what @IBMobile wiring diagram shows. You want the fuel pressure gauge away from the VP but after the filter. Vulcan performance or DAP, vendors here, can hook you up with a gauge and what you need to plumb it in. Just call one of them and tell them what your doing. I use an Isspro ev gauge. Simple but effective. You should check and see if you can get a test gauge from one of the parts stores and check the pressure and see what the pump is doing when start it. It could be something else killing the engine and once it dies the ECM shuts the pump off. I am pretty sure on that. Someone correct me if I am wrong. There are several after market fuel pick ups available. Vulcan or DAP has them also. The screens keep any big crap from going thru the pump. So you would be better off with a pre filter. Again Vulcan or DAP can help you with that. My AD came as a kit with everything. New fuel lines, filters both pre and post, wiring harness, in tank pump removal kit to mod the fuel pick up, pretty much a complete fuel system. It also cost $600. The raptors dont seem to come with as much.

Teardown and Rebuild
I like the idea of painting them and then changing to the bed liner if you dont like it. Gun metal gray would be a nice color.
