  1. The airsoft bb's of regular bb's will do the same thing? could it be that simple? If it is I am going to try it.
  2. Whats wrong with you guys??? The man just bought his first Cummins. That's where the tingly feeling comes from. That's the same thing I felt back in October of 01 when I drove off the dealers lot. It is normal!!! All kidding aside, Tom, it may be as you describe, a little paranoia and can't add anything to the other suggestions members have offered. So welcome and we will help as much as possible. Sounds like you have a pretty good ride to me.
  3. My pick up is in the fuel basket. I used the kit to replace the intank pump that came with my AD. The pickup tube is only 3/8 where the fuel line is 1/2. Plus the connections on top of the basket are slightly smaller than 3/8. In addition I still use the oe filter canister with a Big Line kit from Vulcan performance. So I am 1/2 to the VP with the exception of the choke points where all of the connections are made. I have ditched all of the oe banjo fittings and replaced them AD's and Vulcan's fittings they provided. My FP at idle is 19 and at WOT is 16. My point is unless you are trying to throw some crazy horse power to the ground this works just fine. So to borrow from ME "If it aint broke don't fix it".
  4. Do the clamps actually wear out?
  5. Well said Josh. Many thanks to you and all the members here who have and still serve. The closest I ever came to the armed forces was drawing #2 in the draft lottery in 1971. Nixon ended the draft shortly before i would have gone. Kind of runs in my family some. Father, USMC 1942-46 aircraft mechanic and flew some mission in the rear seat of a Dauntless SBD dive bomber Older brother US Army combat medic Vietnam 1969-70 Oldest son USAF retired after 22 years primarily a flight engineer on C-130's Afganistan and Africa Son in law about to retire after 20 years 3 tours in the middle east 2 in Afganistan mortarman in a Stryker battalion Grandson only 6 month in and a member of the 82nd Airborne, sure is proud of his jump wings I am grateful to all that have served to help maintain our way of life. Thank you all.
  6. While the fuel pressure is not terrible it could be better, but I understand financial limitations. Bare in mind that most low fuel pressure lights do not come on until about 5 psi or less, well into the danger zone and could just sit a 6 or more for along time before the light comes on. let us know what you find with the scanner.
  7. I think the bracket has to stay. I believe it covers the hole in the block for the mechanical pumps that were on the 12 valves. Mine has something there but I dont remember what. It was put there by dodge when they installed the intank pump. Plus with the intank pump you still needed to use the oe filter canister.
  8. here is a picture of my intank pump. The top is different from the one that ME posted, so you may not be able to check just by looking. i am not sure what the top of a stock one looks like. I have to agree with checking the block location first. If nothing is there you most likely have an in tank pump. I ran the in tank pump and a booster pump on the frame rail for about 3 years. Both pumps had there own power source.
  9. if you do have an intank pump and just connected to the top of the tank then you are pulling fuel thru the in tank pump. If you powered the new pump from wires you say you removed from the fuel filter, there are none on the filter but are on the oe block mounted lift pump just aft of the filter. I have an Air Dog on mine and if I am not mistaken they install very similar. My truck had the aftermarket Dodge in tank lift pump that replaced the block mounted pump. I am think from your description that you have the oe block mounted pump but not sure. My AD also came with a kit to remove the in tank pump. If you look just aft of the filter is there a pump mounted on the block?
  10. Thats the one I remember. What is that you are turning on and off? my ears are to bad to make that one out. I noticed it is killing the temp gauge also.
  11. If you installed a Fass system and just connected to the top of the tank and have the in tank pump you are trying to pull fuel thru both??? Where do you get power for the Fass?
  12. I dont remember mine ever doing that, but i seem to remember something that Mike did when the high idle switch was a gleam in his eye that made the gauge do that. Not sure that was it but it was something he was messing with a good while back.
  13. I could reach in and hit mine if I wanted to, hope it never comes to that though. You say 5 psi after the lift pump cycles, how about after the engine starts and at WOT?
  14. While I understand the dummy part of the gauge, I have never seen mine move until after start up. Just went outside and turned the key on and watched it just lay there for 60 seconds.
  15. If its not sucking air in somewhere, lift pump(what kind do you have?) or VP, kind of hard to say. Check the codes and lets go from there. Mine has stumbled like that before with a dirty fuel filter. Changed it and it was gone.
  16. i agree with Me that you need to open up the fuel tank and see what you really have, unless you did the install then you would already know. Just about all the 1/4 tank issues I have read of involve loss of fuel due to the straw being cut to short and with that a loss in pressure. Pressure fluctuations like you are seeing are usually caused by the hammer effect from the pump, but you would see that thru the entire tank and not just the last half. if you off road alot I could see the sump being a problem with possibly getting knocked off. Pavement queen maybe not. Mine is 97% pavement queen, but I chose to have my pickup in the fuel basket and it works as well as the oe setup. i do however run a needle valve to protect the gauge after beating my first one to death. Both of mine are and were mechanical.
  17. Lack of fuel or air or both will cause some issues.
  18. All the more reason to check the trouble codes. Not sure where you live but you can usually get a scanner for a deposit and the auto parts store and bring it home if you dont want to drive the truck.
  19. Thats a piece of work. I sure would hate to get thrown over the windshield. I dont think the fly wheels would notice go thru them.
  20. Early 02's have CAD. Mine does. I bought it in late 01
  21. here is mine. It is a little fuzzy. will try for a better one tomorrow. forget this last one.
  22. Having trouble posting the photo of mine but will keep trying. While looking at the wiring diagrams Mike has in the article data base it shows the power coming from the ECM straight to the fuel transfer pump. I don't see a relay involved. If there is one involved it seems strange that the after market fuel makes and Dodge would provide another relay to be operated by an existing relay. Seems strange to me. but as I have said in the past I am a 3 year old when it comes to the electronics.
  23. you ought to check for trouble codes. Not all codes will set the cel.
