  1. That is its purpose. While I dont have a oil temp gauge on mine i do tow a 15k trailer and cooling has never been an issue.
  2. That was my thought process 6 years ago, but after seeing Mike succes and some others it make me wonder. Mike's 3" seems to be keeping up with his mods and EGT's quite well. Not that mine does not, thats what makes me wonder.

Welcome, hope we can all help.
  4. I'll be interested in hearing this one out on exhaust size. Six years ago I was convinced that the 4" was the way to go. But after seeing Mikes success with a 3" straight pipe and some others with the same set up, I am not as convinced the 4" is that beneficial. With what I have plus maybe 50 more hp, is a 4" exhaust necasary?
  5. Did I read on another thread that the 02 config is no longer made?
  6. My apoligies sir. I miss read your post on the chinese part. but I had heard of what you said about the Moog reducing quality after I had bought mine. Her is to a long and happy life for both yours, mine and the OP's.
  7. I have heard some of the same things about the Moog. But being made i china was not one of them. I did not notice made in China on the boxes they came in. I guess there is good and bad about all of them. I have about 30k on mine and they are still holding up well. I bellieve that Mike used the cheaper stuff at Rock auto and his are still holding up, but I dont want to speak for him. As far as greasable joints are concerned, the oe stuff was factory sealed and mine lasted for 200K. They were shot but still holding together.
  8. I did it with the same things Rogan listed except the hub press tool. My ball joint press did not have the right receiver cup for the lower one, I had to beat them out. the ball joints were somewhat difficult only because I had never done it before. The second side went much better than the first. I also used Moog and rock auto had by far the best prices going at the time.
  9. Just thinking outloud here. Bring it up to the speed where it starts surging set the cruise. Then if it stops surging, leave the cruise set and pick up the throttle until is over takes the cruise and see if it start surging again. That would make me think it was the TPS. Of course if the edge is the problem that is a differant story.
  10. I am by far no expert on this but it seems to me when I set my cruise that it does not use the tps to hold speed, since the throttle pedal returns to the idle position and there is no mechanical connection to the linkage. The ECM controls it on its own is what I am thinking. If that is the case and the TPS is bad, the engine runs right when the cruise is set because the ECM bypasses the TPS.This is of course if your cruise is elctronic like the 01 FSM says it should be.
  11. The whistle you are heariing is normal. It is just the turbo spooling up. Let off the throttle, the turbo quits spooling and the whistle will stop.
  12. I think I am going to use the oe with anew gasket. Probably will wait until I get her home. I am living in the rv park. You knowhow that goes. I got up a day break Sunday and change the fluid in my front diff. It was leaking on ther new concrete.
  13. The servo is under the drivers side battery. From what I have seen the servo takes a beating from the battery above it. corrosion that is.
  14. They make them. If you know a plumber they might have one. I have had to tv more than one sewer line.
  15. Thats pretty good. It cost me alomost a grand 5 years ago. A year later it was almost gone. Get your self a fuel pressure gauge and keep an eye on it.
  16. He is just saying add an extra half quart above the fill plug. It helps lube 5th gear on yours and 6th gear on mine. One way to do it is thru the shifter hole. I did that on my 6 speed when I changed out and had the hole open. Prior to haveing it open I parked the truck on the side of the drainage ditch in front of my house. The truck leaned over enough to get an extra quart in and I did not have to take anything apart. It's very easy that way.
  17. Well darn is all I can say. Thanks John.
  18. Geez, what does quickserve no anyway. I put a cummins 180 in mine to see if that was part of my over cooling problem and it ran so cold I took it out 2 days later. My serial # is 56853981. I wonder what it says when ever you are on there again. Some places I have looked a tstat's show both 180 and 190, they just dont say which was stock.
  19. Where are you finding the info on the tstat? Mine came with a 190* when new or at least the temp gauge used to sit rock solid at 190 except when idleing. I tried to find it in the FSM but was unsecessful.
  20. That probably made the Diesel Dog very happy after being cooped up all this time.
  21. Thats a prety good one there Rosalie. Pay back is a b____, but you got a love it when you get it.
  22. I am curious if you ever got this one fised also. I have got a leak at the rear of the engine myself. It appears to be wet along the bottom of the back third of the tappet cover. I can see it along the bottom edge, but cant see much else without taking some stuff. what di your end up being?
  23. good advice. How are you checking for your codes? A weak lift pump can generate that code also. sounds like your is fair. what kind of lift pump do you have? Have you changed your fuel filter lately. I had similar issues with mine but my pressures were way to low, nowhere in th ballpark of what yours are. I changed my fuel system, got the pressures up and got alot more life out of the vp. so there might still be some hope. Just bear in mind what ever damge if any that has already been done, the best fuel system in the world will not reverse it. I was lucky thats all there is to it.
  24. Absolutely differant. That is just normal spooling. I have never heard the bark when i have let off quickly.
