  1. First row is gears for a 1500.. Steepest grade around here is an 11 or 13% and its less than a half mile long.. otherwise just small rolling hills and flatlands.. @Mopar1973Man the custom tuning can still be done on the gassers but its not able to be done on the fly like we can with a Quad. They are are also mostly in for power not economy. No shift on the fly either.. Think smarty S-03.. Ive gotten 300 miles by half tank once in my cummins. Between the nearly all in town driving, 4.10s, and 285/70r17s im not set up for economy so that felt good.. But i cant seem to get the oil temps where they should be. On a highway run they can start pushing 210*.
  2. No problem @JAG1. Hardest thing with text only based communication is implying any emotion. Got into trouble with my ex girlfriend on more than one occasion because of that. And different phones had smileys/emojis show up wrong. My Android phone to Her Apple phone.
  3. @LorenS yes they are, within reason. The truck I had had 4.10s and 285/70r17s. Perks of the off road package. I had done a fair amount to it to try and fix some of the issues that were inherent to the motor in an effort to get better economy and a bit more power. None of it really worked. Then come to find out recently, some of the things I had gotten for the truck weren't the best for it, specifically the guy I got the tune from. Tuning philosophy was just add fuel every where. Even with a cat, my truck smelt rich. Think car show muscle car. Only time I got above 11-12 mpg with it was two highway only runs. Got 13.9 and 14.1 going from Essex, CT to East Stroudsburg, PA and back for fireworks. It was a tank down and a tank back. 13.9 was 70-75 down, 14.1 on the way back was my best friend driving at 65-ish. Cops don't like explosives going across state lines.. Didn't want to attract attention to us.
  4. @JAG1, he kinda owns the place.. I think he can do what he wants . If i can even get a 5.2 gasser to half of that high mark around town, i'd be bragging too.
  5. @IBMobile Yep. I have been playing around with it and it seems like the tire size and gears have the fixed ratio between themselves. What I was asking Mike about was if the same tire sizes would match up with a gasser. The NV3500 in the ram 1500's has much different gears than the NV4500. Plus with the gasser having a different powerband I was curious if the knowledge needed tweaking or could be applied properly. Because the 245s would match up with what Mike put via the calculator. Maybe I'm gonna be the guinea pig to see how this translates for the gasser community..
  6. @IBMobile, that part I have, it's the effective ratio I think is what I was asking about. The one where tire size effects what your final ratio is to the ground.
  7. How did you end up figuring it out for the Cummins? Trial and error?
  8. I didn't know where else to put this, so its going here.. I'm going to be selling my 2019 2500. Learning a life lesson in the money area and it's that just because you have the money doesn't mean you can get the expensive toys. Situation boils down to a not refined enough budget and you cant plan for unexpected costs. To have a spare vehicle, my brother has a 99 1500 SCSB, 5.2, 5 speed, and 3.55s that he got for cheap because it needs a clutch or throw out bearing. We/he hasn't had time to dig into it so its been sitting for a while. He's willing to sell it to me for $600. Besides the clutch, it also needs tires, current ones wont make it through winter. Which brings me to my question: @Mopar1973Man, Does the final drive ratio of 3.55-3.73 also hold true for the gas trucks as well? I used to have an 01 ram 1500 sport off road edition before I had my Cummins, it got 11 mpg pretty much everywhere. Kicker was it came with 4.10s factory. I'm trying to squeeze a bit more out of this one since its going to become my daily.
  9. Pulling the tcase is simpler than a motor. Drives shafts removed, unhook the linkage, remove the vacuum switch, 6 bolts and its out.. ratchet set should be enough but the switch needs a big socket or wrench, 1 inch plus i think.. Rebuilding it i think the only thing you need is a blind hole bearing puller. Should be able to rent it. The vacuum lines are what controls the center axle disconnect. The thing they attach to is a vacuum switch on the tcase and a vacuum motor on the front axle. Also they are attached to the vacuum pump and a vent line. Depending on what is causing the issue, depends on what would be causing the symptoms you are experiencing. No vacuum would cause the front actuator to not move and not light up the 4wd light. Tcase issues would cause lack of engagement..
  10. @Turbo Terry, it all depends on location and condition. Had a friend got a 12v with like 50k for like 8 grand. He got a steal on that truck. Mine was 14k with 164k back in 2014/2015. The market now is even worse, 300k and semi-rotted going for like 10g or clean and 170-190k for 20+, at least in the Northeast..
  11. Last couple of years have been weird. Average in the high 30s for the majority of the winter. High enough that the ground didn't freeze and nearly no snow stuck around. Was cold enough to snow for a day them 38-45°f the next days. Made plowing interesting, trying to not tear up lawn is an art when you are moving snow. And on top of that snow was a rare commodity in 2018-2019. 2020 was closer to "normal", We actually got a snow pack that kept the temps cooler along with some decent storms. (6-8 is decent, 8+ is a lot, anything above 15 inches shuts the state down for a day or two). 2019 had these stupid dusting-2" storms but they came through like every other day for two or three weeks straight. That sucked. I like winter, but living on the shoreline if the temps don't get quite low enough we either get mix, sleet, or freezing rain. I'd rather have the snowpack cooling the air so it keeps the mix line south of us.. moving powder is much easier than rained on ice crusted mush. Full sleet is ok. It's little ball bearings of water that froze on the way down. Sleet gets a bad rap because usually its mixed with rain and freezes. Had a storm just make sleet when I was younger, dropped like 2 inches. never rained so it didn't freeze solid. Moved like snow but more fluidic... if that makes sense.
  12. I have seen a preliminary winter outlook through Facebook, but it was from someone I haven't heard of, so I don't know the validity of it. Summary was cold and stormy for the Northeast. Not sure what is in store for you guys on the west coast.. I'll see if I can find the post again and see what's up. Part of the cool down you are feeling might be just less humidity. When we had the extremely humid days around here overnight temps never got below 70, often staying around 75. Humidity goes away and low-mid 60's come back.
  13. Just looked at our 10 day, no 80's and humidity in the mid 50's to mid 60's. Lows in the mid 50s for some nights. Might actually shut the a/c off a few days this week.
  14. Can't catch a break, getting the remains of Ida tonight into tomorrow. @JAG1, forecasts are saying anywhere from 3-5 to 6-10 inches of rain, falling between midnight and noon tomorrow. I'm gonna be getting your to date rain fall in 12 hours or less. If I could send your state some of this rain I would, and spread it out over a few days. Unfortunately, I have sled pull Friday evening, hopefully the fair that its at drains well enough and we don't have a mud bog again. Got stuck in the parking lot a couple of times last weekend due to rain, and not great tires for mud. Track was taken care of though.
  15. @IBMobile, he does, and i have the actual build sheet for my truck (all the sales codes). It doesnt say anything about the engine code. Doing some reading finds a mixed bag of results with either Cummins quickserve or through the dealership...
  16. Adding to the random questions.. How screwed is someone who doesn't have the data plate on the timing case? Because I'm someone... I think the timing cover got replaced with the updated version and whoever did the job did not swap the data plate.. I found a sticker on the top of the oil cooler boss but it's 7 numbers not 8, so I don't know if that's something different or not.. is it possible to get a replacement? I'm guessing not because its similar to a VIN plate, and I think reproduction of those is illegal.
  17. https://www.jbconversions.com/products/np241/rebuild.php the part is listed under np241c, so I don't know what is different if anything between the dodge and chevy. You would need a wide chain for the dhd as well. my brother had good luck with their kit when he rebuilt his jeep tcase. https://www.allstategear.com/NP241DHD-Transfer-Case-Bearing-Kit-p/bk241c.htm This is specifically for a dhd, and its cheaper, but you need a chain. I think that is a normal thing for the rebuild kits though. I haven't bought a kit yet, but Allstate gear was what got me down the rabbit hole of the input bearings are different between some of the tcases. Some have a single row input bearing and some have a dual row bearing. And they are not interchangeable unless you replace the input shaft with the correct one. When I get to mine I'm interested to see what happened to the low range parts when I ground them back in October 2020 while sled pulling. I just looked at images for the linkage. I think theres an adjustment for the linkage attached to the rod.. Might have moved.. Most i think overlook this because its probably seized up with rust. And its not something that usually needs adjusting..
  18. Weird name, doesnt pop out immediately when searching for "W-T ground mod"
  19. Another way is with other languages alphabets. The font this site uses and many others has an "a" that looks like it does. But some letters look similar to ours in other alphabets. The Russian "a" (<-not Russian) looks similar enough that if you quick glance you wont catch it. But because its a different letter, its recognized as a different address. It usually brings you to an identical looking site but your info goes to the scammer. Usually this is used in phishing emails. On mobile when I get a funky email (ex: your recent purchase from amazon but you haven't used amazon in months), I'll tap the sender to see what the email address is. Most of the time, garbled nonsense at some random website, but says its from say amazon customer service, for example. (I've had this one actually..)
  20. If you have a CAD axle, which it seems is true, the 4x4 light is triggered by the axle shift fork. The large vacuum switch on the transfer case is for actuating the shift fork only. How the non-CAD trucks are set up I don't know. Also, I don't remember if any 01s had the non-CAD as an option. Since the light is coming on, I am leaning toward your transfer case having the issues.. Do you know any history on the truck? Between the mileage and apparent zip tie infestation, you might need to rebuild the transfer case. I think you might be suffering from all three ailments we described. High mileage could wear out the shift fork pads, and the bearings. And if the previous owner(s) just abused the 4x4 in and out, it might have worn the synchro(s?) in there and its not able to get into gear. New rod bushings or a new rod might also help firm up the shifting confidence. T-case rebuild is about $200 and takes about day to pull, tear down, rebuild, and reinstall.
  21. I agree with what everyone here has said. Since you have a manual, a slightly smaller turbo would be of benefit because you loose all you boost between shifts. also depends on how often and how heavy you tow. Just wanted to answer the last part of your comment. the "S" and "G" are just a naming convention/part number/turbo style for Borgwarner. The GXE is technically an S300-G but with a bunch of internal upgrades and a billet wheel. @dieselautopower please correct me if I'm wrong. The S series of turbos go from S2XX all the way to S5XX. The inducer diameter in mm fills in the XX's. Borgwarner then came out with the SXE series of some of the same turbos with (I think) better flowing compressor covers, 360° thrust bearings, and billet wheels.
  22. I think the key helps set the static timing. From here: https://www.cumminsforum.com/threads/vp44-woodruff-key-identification.365023/ post 11 says that a degree is an adjustment of .0087 in a 1 inch shaft. Depending on how fine they are trying to get a vp44, you might not even be able to feel a difference. (your hair is about .003-.004 thick) But I cant imagine a degree being enough to throw the timing off enough to throw white smoke. Unless the computer is getting way out of whack trying to put the timing in the correct position based on what info its getting, either timing or fueling or something.. My thoughts on it, don't know how right it is.
  23. Because I had to go through this with my 2019 2500, some "Reman" items from the dealer are actually new. My father is a customer parts counter person at a dodge dealer. He has said that at least the radios/uconnect system are brand new not remanned. Price difference is ~$800 for remanned, over $1500 for new.. It might also be new due to its a new body style and interior and needs the cores to get built up for full remanufacturing. Just saying that just because its remanned, doesn't always mean it's actually been used already anymore. Whether or not that what happened ~15 years ago I don't know.
  24. Survived the hurricane. Everything they were warning about never really materialized. It rained, it was breezy, and that was about it where I was. Didn't travel to see where the water came up to for the surge. Over in Rhode Island I think the surge was worse along with the wind. Still dealing with the remains as they are continuing to rotate through. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Gloria - this is what the weather people were comparing Henri to. Isaias last year gave us more problems, windier storm however.
  25. Welp, tomorrow we are getting our first hurricane in 30 years. Sandy and Irene both were tropical storms at land fall. Storm track is right up into CT then over towards New York then out towards Maine. Might be away between the fire dept and no power.. Final storm prep today then early morning the hurricane starts hitting.. If it land falls as a cat 1 like its predicted to, 74 mph minimum sustained winds.. we arent used to that.. 60+mph gusts are one thing but sustained is another.. 2-5 ft storm surge too in Long Island Sound. My town is inland from the sound but right on the CT River. Including some parts that are barely a foot above average high tide. Add on top of that 6 to 12 inches of rain.. All i know is Monday is going to be interesting..
