  1. I'm with Texas on this one. My truck hazes now and I don't have a plate. The only CR I know of that's stock and smoking is a truck that smokes the entire time he's on the pedal. My truck wouldn't even smoke stock.
  2. Yeah the head gasket was junk. I have a "severe duty" one and ARP head studs for it now. For some reason everything is a dime a dozen for it. Or maybe I'm used to cummins pricing :spend:Head studs for this, $70, for that, $400
  3. My jeep has a tiny but consistent antifreeze into oil leak. Today I finalllllllly got around to taking the head off. Welll....I coulda just taken the valve cover off and been amazed. There is up to 1/2" of this carbony oily buildup crap. My dodge is spotless and has 150,000 miles more. So what causes this? I've only had this jeep for 10,000 miles and it runs like a top, sommmmehow. Even got 20mpg the other day. It does run hot though.
  4. Moparmom: "He gets the whole damn desk and I'm left with the pull out drawer to put my computer on, its unbelievable!"
  5. When I bought it, I was buying the whole package. Looking back, all I care about is the cummins. I hate the brakes on these things and I hate the steering components. My old 1990 ford has 2 caliper brakes that slam your head against the windshield if you want them to and its 4wd and has less play in the steering than my 2wd dodge. People complain about the wiring on dodges but having stripped it down to every last wire, I didn't see too many issues other than a lot of things are undersized. The headlights are fed 16 or 18 ga positive wire only to be grounded with 20 or 22 ga wire. There are a lot of little flaws like that. I think ford does a better job. My fords headlights were much brighter. I think dodge also uses cheaper paint than usual. Though new chevy's seem to rot the fender wells after hitting the puddle on the way out of the dealership. If I did it all over again, I would still buy the dodge as it has the best interior. I would rewire everything (completely different than how I already did). I would find aftermarket brakes and aftermarket steering components, the more complete the kit (farther from OEM junk) the better. I think the bodies on these also are the most streamlined so probably help with MPG. Dodges do look the best. Chevys have always looked somewhat boring. Fords look fine but are bland, and the interiors on them are very industrial looking. I think 1960's bulldozer interiors look the same.
  6. Well this kinda sums up why people get lost I guess. I didn't know if there was some other bulletproof way to find your way back or what. Seems common sense and just not getting to the point of being lost is key. It would be neat if there was a pedometer with a built in magnetic compass that counted your steps in each direction. That would eliminate GPS signal issues and any other "external reliance" issues. On a 4 wheeler you could use the same thing and integrate it with the speedometer. Just a thought to prevent people from getting lost. Obviously there are a lot of people who still get lost. There are actually maps for all the trails we go on, so I can look at them as a worst case scenario. I would think even a terrain map would help lost people out, as long as they had a general idea which direction they had headed. I guess if you're completely clueless about anything and everything then you would deserve to be lost in the woods for a while lol. As for what W&F originally said, there is a kid on youtube I watch a lot. I think he is 17 now. He goes out and lives off the land for a day or 2. I just find it amazing what he knows compared to what all the other kids his age know. Plus his vids put shame to even the discovery channel as far as quality and stuff goes.
  7. I saw Mikes thing saying he was on another search and rescue. Being I haven't really seen this discussed, I want to hear more about it. So, how do you prevent getting lost? Seems people do it easily. How do find your way back once you're lost? On dirt bikes I often ride where there are tons of trails which lead to who knows where which intersect and do this and that and it's almost impossible to back track where you've been. I can get a general sense of which direction I went from camp so I can get a general direction heading back, but because I have like a 3.5 gallon tank on it which lasts forever, I just ride until I find something familiar again, like pavement. I have thrown the bike over fences, ridden down creeks until I find something or the bike submerges. Somehow I always get back. But I know there are many scenarios that I don't know about so I wanted to hear the "standard" things to do in a given situation. His thing said their GPS was crap so that throws that out the window.
  8. You and the rest of the world have the same problem. But it isn't a problem. When it is starting it is injecting fuel but it isn't burning it until it actually "starts" which only takes a second so you only get that second worth of black smoke. Completely normal :thumbup2:In the winter the smoke may haze as a slight whiteish smoke as the cylinder temps warm up, this is normal as long as it doesnt get to the point of being excessive. Meaning it shouldn't do it for any longer than a few minutes.
  9. This is very good info TexasCTD. I know nothing about which injectors make which power other than the OEM ones. Nice job
  10. I think the trick is to charge them back up quickly, don't let them sit drained for a month. My brother does that. I have 2 of those everstart MAXX batteries, one was in my ford and stood the test of 2 minute cranks daily, then threw it in the dodge, it actually has corroded the terminals off but the damn thing still works. Brother took the other everstart, killed it, left it dead for a while, its junk now. So I think extremely draining the battery down to <11 volts will slowly kill it, but not as bad as leaving it at that voltage for a long time. I mean that everstart in my ford was drained to barely cranking before it would start but it would start and charged it back up, that went on for years and the thing is still good and its like 9 years old.

Ya know, I gotta be honest. I thought you guys were a buncha conspirators haha. Then you get down to something that actually applies to me and completely erase the lactose issue entirely and its like huh, they are right and the government is the one making these statements look like BS conspiracies. So thanks for hitting something home for me. I can't go without milk

WTHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :banghead::banghead: Why are we drinking this other crap? She was almost in the ER because it hurts so bad.

So technically it doesn't fix it because it contains the enzyme so its not even an issue? So she could drink raw milk and be fine?
  14. I dont mean write up our own constitution for the city block. I just mean stand together and do whats right with each other. We gotta follow laws but if the cops are part of the communion then they are part of the group as well. Cops shouldn't be some external person to come into the territory and enforce what they think is right when it could be stupid and wrong. Cops should only be there to assist you in your time of need, such as getting robbed. Other than that, they should be part of society. Not this pulling people over for going 1mph through a stop sign crap. There is nothing saying we can't unite as a community for the greater good. The government can do what they want but they are not for coming into our societies and telling us what to do. Amish people do this already. They have no town or anything, they just unite as one for the common purpose of helping each other. Thats what I am getting at. Like I have really fast internet. It's $80/month. There is no reason I cant put the router in next to my door in the middle of the 4 plex and then we just pay $20/month each. Why can't we all rent a place like this for $600 a month to pay $150 each instead of each of us paying $450. This division of society costs us dearly. Rich people surely love it.
  15. Rode 3 miles in 6" of snow on my bike on the katy trail by the missouri river. Bridge is I-70. That was a week ago.

Does raw milk fix lactose intolerance once you have it? I seemed to develop it slightly over the last year. It doesn't do much to me, but now my sister has it and apparently brings her to her knees. I just get lactaid milk and its fine. She takes the lactose pills and is fine, I think.
  17. I was thinking about this the other day. Whats stopping people from going door to door and getting to know everyone in their block or town and working as a team? Hell with the government, be your own. For instance. There is a town called clifton city about 5 miles from me that has a mechanic shop right in the middle. There are maybe 15 houses all in the blink of an eye. Its just a T intersection city... no streets or anything. They could team up, get to know everyone, even have gatherings where they all have lunch together. I think they already do this as I might be related to some of them. Anyhow I live in a city of 100,000 now. Every blind is closed in every house, nobody knows their neighbor, etc. But whats stopping this? The government isn't here putting up barricades. I think it was like this in the "old days" but I'm not sure. But if anything weird happened, people would call each other and help each other. Someone with a gun could go out and see what was up My parents live around mennonites and they all team doing for their common goals. I don't know, I just think we can all easily be our own little "mini governments", pay taxes to the blowhards in the big government, tell them to mind their own business, and we do our own thing. We take care of schooling, we are the police, etc. Is there anything keeping this from happening? I don't think the government has enough control to stop it from happening. Then blocks communicate with other blocks, next thing you know we have entire subdivisions teaming up. The government will have no purpose other than the original purpose and they can get back in line. Just a thought, how many flaws are there with this
  18. So far its just go with the cheapest TCW-3, as long as its new (filtered). I actually have been thinking about the synthetic thing though. They say not to use it in diesels, but its not like my dirt bike can tell a difference so I am wondering why we can't use it in our diesels. It would be expensive but I think a lot of amsoil dealers can get it cheap enough that they would use it.
  19. I must be the oddball of the group. I will never drop the tank. The bed is like 4 bolts, the filler neck, unplug the tail lights and its off. I hate getting under the truck and battling that crap. If the cab was easier to take off I would do that to change a clutch. Plus with the bed off you can power wash everything. I don't know how much it weighs, I just use the front end loader. http://www.mopar1973man.com/isx97/Truck%20Stuff/Ryan's%20Dodge/Exterior/Fuel%20Tank/IMG_1644.JPG
  20. This is what everyone is using http://www.walmart.com/ip/Super-Tech-TC-W3-Outboard-2-Cycle-Oil-1-Gallon/16795065 Theres a bunch of links on this page you can read about. http://articles.mopar1973man.com/general-cummins/36-fuel-system Basically look for nonsynthetic TCW3.
  21. Injector cleaners have been the long debate of the decade and I'd like to shed some more light on it. Injector cleaners have a number of things they have to do while also doing others. For instance, something made to tackle carbon means it could possibly and probably tackle the rubber of the fuel lines, gaskets, etc. This means injector cleaner additives are extremely weak and must be used long term for them to do anything. One test I did was putting an injector that I hadn't cleaned into a cup with injector cleaner additive in it. I waited 24 hours, pulled it out, and nothing had changed. I had dumped the injector cleaner straight into the cup so it was 100% concentration, so that tells you just how weak it is. Fuel line rubber is easily degraded so it must be extremely weak to not disturb the rubber. The injector itself acts like a power washer because it uses such high pressure so if the insides of it have carbon buildup, a very weak additive may have an effect over a length of time (maybe a few tanks with the additive in it, maybe longer, not sure just how effective the additives are). The additive soaks into the carbon and allows it to be easily washed away. If the injector is very coked, this could take a very very long time. This isn't to say that additives don't work, but with the constraints the fuel system rubber/gaskets put on the additive, they must be allowed a long period of time to notice any effects at all. This might make you wonder if chemicals can even get rid of carbon. Yesterday I decided to clean my Jeep's intake butterfly thingermajigger and it had probably 1/16" of coking on it. We had a bucket of this chem dip stuff which said throw it in for 30 min, if it has a lot of build up, leave it in longer. It explicitly says to remove all rubber and gaskets before using it. It took a longgg time for it to get rid of that much carbon with me constantly checking on it and rubbing off the loose stuff. I thought hmmm, I wonder if this would work on an injector. I went out and ripped an injector out of the cummins, wiped everything off that I could until it was nothing but coked on carbon. I then threw it in and waited 30-45 min and then took it out and the carbon wiped right off. It left nothing but the discoloration of the tip of the injector behind which must come off when I use aluminum polish to clean it since I have never seen the discoloration before. Anyhow it proves that chemicals can soak into it without any agitation and then the carbon can be wiped right off. But it is very hard core and would eat your fuel lines for breakfast very quickly. You can imagine what would happen if it were in your fuel system 24/7... Hence the reason additives are extremely weak and must therefore be used for a very long duration for them to actually work. Additives also have a tendency to lower lubricity, which is bad for the fuel system as it needs lube to function and in the case of the VP44, the fuel is it's entire source of lube. Much like a 2 stroke engine, they cannot run without lube. 2 stroke oil lubes the fuel system as well as apparently cleaning it based on this quote I found. For this reason and because 2 stroke oil is available everywhere, it is definitely the best fuel additive. If someone reads this and has post 2007 (EGR) truck, you need to search for compatibility... My injector after chem dip. Only discoloration remains.
  22. Now I got someone to do this for me who knows more about excel than me Hopefully my paycheck won't go down.
  23. I guess what gets me is why smart kids in science go there to display their works of art, why? Why does the gov. control schooling? Why does the government have any input at all in anything but what you said. The government is one "segment" to me. Everything else I would think would just be a department. Something with no politics in place, only doing whats "right". So the government does what you said, the department takes care of schooling and this and that and everything else. I guess its the same as telling some kid if he does really good in school, he can see the president, someone who is supposeddd to only do the things you said, but is now the signature of "success". Just seems the government is the new uhhhh whats the word....ummm...I guess they are what the Beatles were in their hay day, cept its more by force. IMO there shouldn't be any "status" rank attributed to the president. He should be just like any other CEO, does his job, goes home. He has a lot of responsibilities now which seems to contribute to his current fame, though it is more that we just pay attention since he controls everything which gives him fame. Need to knock them all back down a notch.
  24. For such a short and simple explanation, it sure speaks a lot Mind has been thinking about it for hours.
  25. Man that garage is just filled with neat stuff! I just can't figure out how the thing can be most noticable at idle, when the engine is already running really lean. Up high is where it would be more noticable I would think because thats where the engine starts to really rely on flow. I am betting it has something to do with the profile making the valves open at a different rate. I'd really like to know for sure. I think with the thought of different profiles in mind I may have something for google to get to work on. I couldn't really get anywhere with "swap cams noise changes"
