  1. Don't know if you are talking to me or not but I was pretty much thinking I should net something positive on my 3rd gen if other 3rd gen guys are seeing mpg improvements with their free-spin installs. What am I missing? - - - Updated - - - I know I must be one of the above 2 guys you are referring too. So I need help in understanding why you are thinking that way? How is my 3rd gen not going to potentially deliver some increase in mpgs knowing that your 3rd gen has?
  2. Could be an injector issue. How many miles do you have on the injectors?
  3. I had bad cables on and old 85 Ford diesel truck and went to the Napa store and had them build me new cables. There were really great and they were cheaper than any other source that I had found.
  4. The free spins hubs are one of the next projects on my list. When I replaced my injectors that provided me the most mpg gain and I am hooked on the mpg drug so I really want to do the free spin install so I can get more.
  5. I believe the battery to ground and battery to battery cables are 1/0 while the battery to starter cable is 2/0.
  6. To me that looks like some serious "rust belt" rust damage. I am not a body man but I think there would be major repairs needed there to fix that. Bondo and paint will only cover rust for for a short time before it reappears on the surface. To me, rust is like cancer. It has to be removed completely or it just continues to grow. If you live in an area that doesn't use salt or other corrosives on winter roads then the rust may slow down but once it has a foot hold it will continue to grow. How fast will depend on the environment it lives in.If the whole truck looks like this example I wouldn't think a $1200 investment in body work and paint will do much more that cover things up for awhile.
  7. Do you tow or carry a heavy load with your truck? I do both and I have gone to the Rancho 9000XL for their large piston and adjustability. I have gone to the them on both my gen 2 and gen 3 truck. Some other folks that tow heavy have used the Bilstein 5100s and have good luck with those.
  8. Ya, I think you both do! You need a money printing machine.
  9. This just made me laugh. Sorry, not at you, I just know you got to feel like a elephant with his head in the sand. Just struck me as funny. Stay away from guns and sharp objects.
  10. I am interested in this topic also. I swallow hard when I see some of the hearing aid prices but think there has got to be a better cost effective solution than $1-3K per ear. I occasionally see some ads in the paper where there is a 50% off sale or some new technology solution that they can't advertise the price on so you have to get an appointment and go in to see them to get any information. I have been reluctant to sign up because it has all the markings of bait and switch or upsale marketing. Sometimes in the catalogs that you get in the mail there will be a hearing enhancer device that looks like a hearing aid that hangs on the backside of your ear (and advertised at a cheap price), but to me an enhancer only magnifies all the sound and not necessarily the needed frequencies. So it seems like you would be getting a lot of loud noises that would be really annoying, Then there is the issue of how long do hearing aids last. Are they like shoes or TVs where they have to be replaced every few years? That is really an expensive proposition.
  11. Ya, it's because nobody can believe he is still putting up with this.
  12. Better keep the '05s or older then!
  13. Not sure if your question relates to the RV you have now, in which case you could be looking at doing mods that are designed to give you more cold weather safety and/or energy efficiency. For these kind of mods I would recommend doing some research on this site as it is all about RV's. http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm This site has tons of information on various mods and ideas used by RVers. As an example if you are talking about boondocking there are mods to maximize battery life (like adding Solar so as to generate your own power to keep your batteries going for long periods without access to AC current or having to fire up a generator. If the need is to minimize the expense of high propane use for heat, then you might look at installing a catalytic heater. If you are tied to AC then there is electric heat that can be used in place of propane. The potential list of mods goes on and on. If you are looking for a different RV to use in cold weather then there are also lots of recommendations that folks have to offer on specific brands and specific features that are useful in cold weather conditions. You will likely spend a fair amount of time researching various links on this site but I think it is a valuable resource to use in your quest for useful help. Good luck.
  14. Hard to believe this topic has generated so many comments! Hate to think what would happen if the topic was something even more personal like brand of deodorant or underwear.
  15. Ya, I am thinking I should buy stock in the oil company you use! By the way, who is it?
  16. Congrats! Hope this is everything you want it to be.
  17. So I'm thinking there must be more to the story than just a friend over for a few beers while you watch him work! You got an IOU or got some dirt on him or ?? He just can't be feeling sorry for you.
  18. Could the blend door not be working properly?
  19. You could keep the gen 2 and get a gen 3 as a stable mate.
  20. I assume you are still talking diesel? If so, then the gen 3 rigs have much less diesel clatter than the gen 1's and 2's. You can get the 'crew cab' version in the gen 3. In general the gen 3 interiors are a little upgraded from the earlier generations. Mileage is likely to be less due to engine design changes dealing with egr issues. Injectors are much more expensive to replace than the earlier generations. Look it over good if it has a 5ver or goose neck hitch to be sure it hasn't been abused.
  21. You need to find out which button you push to tell you why your trans doesn't work the way it is supposed to if there are no codes?
  22. All this posting wasn't making much sense to me until you cleared up what the objective was. Now I get it.
  23. That's very interesting! I have always heard that you all had one of the most stringent set of gun laws on the books but Chicago is pretty much the murder capitol of the US. More killed there in a week than our service men loose in our foreign conflicts. Glad to hear that maybe some common sense is overtaking the liberal politician ruse.
