  1. If you start off at 13⁰ at 1500 RPM, then to what do you set the Low PSI timing reduction? I have my timing table start higher, but utilize the low psi timing reduction and it works well for me compared to just starting low like 13⁰
  2. I wish I could help! So far I haven't had issues with mine that weren't fairly obvious, like a loose plug.
  3. I now have AlfaOBD, just waiting for my magic cord to show up so I can look at all kinds of things (and program my new keys!), hopefully I can figure out some of those things. I'm really hoping my +25 mile commute is long enough to not create problems between my several hundred mile trips across the midwest.
  4. I was reading a trucking magazine the other day and there was an article in there about how some companies are using block heaters even in the summer. It has drastically reduced their maintenance on DPF, and of course saved them fuel money due to reduced regens. Based on our most recent bill I think I'm paying 12 cents/kW-hr, so I may give it a go for this truck.
  5. I finally looked at the title, and it was a tire shop in Lincoln, NE. The interior is immaculate, even the drivers seat, so maybe it was a salesman's vehicle.
  6. My OBDlink LX can read the dP on the DPF, so I'll watch that to see what I can decipher. I'll look for time between regens data.
  7. I'm glad my 2150 has the screens with finger grooves, and I don't mow at 12 MPH. My old WD45 had such huge gaps in the radiator fins, most grass just blew on through! Moths would clog it until I shut it off so they could fly away...
  8. I bought a 16 year old truck sporting 36k pound tags and 273k miles, for about $8k. It'd be kinda silly for me to treat it like a fully restored '63 split window 'Vette, etc. This rusty POS is completely replaceable. You guys who bought them new and fully maintain them, is a different story altogether.
  9. My GreenDieselEngineering.com EPA compliant (49 state) tune has been ordered! A lot of money. I wish I could just delete it (or at least turn off EGR), but with the EPA cracking down on dealers and installers, it's just a matter of time until the vehicle owners start getting whacked, too. If I never left Missouri or Kansas (though that's still crossing state lines), I'd strongly consider it. With my 2001 if they confiscate my Adrenaline I can put the plugs back together and drive on with my stock injectors. This tune is supposed to be quite worth it in the long run for DPF life and reduced regens. At less cost than a replacement DPF, I decided to buy this tune.
  10. My friends are all worth a lot more than I am. Also, the one most likely to borrow it certainly knows how to pull a trailer with a diesel (dragged Super Cat race boats around the country for a living for two different teams), but guessing any gauges he had were calibrated for the truck. He also has way more experience behind the wheel of sports cars that break loose traction. In reality, from either a "Skills Behind the Wheel" or "you break it, you pay to fix it" perspective I would be the one in my group that should not be allowed to borrow things, except I'm mechanically inclined and responsible. Can't tell you when my last moving violation was maybe 2007, and never caused a wreck. Been rear ended while sitting at a light, but the trailer hitch didn't care; that dude's bumper sure did!
  11. I have stock injectors, but I also don't have a "real" boost gauge. Haven't yet installed the 100 HP injectors I bought in December. Life has been WAY too busy this year with buying one house before selling the other, and my dad had back surgery so I have been helping him some, too. Hopefully this will all settle down when cool weather comes and I can dedicate some time to the '01. With no head studs, I think I also have the Adrenaline set to pull fuel when I get to higher PSI.
  12. At least with the colors I have a better shot not having a buddy melt down my truck if I ever lend it to one of them! I have my Adrenaline set to pulling fuel at 1250, I believe.
  13. Wonder what it'd take to get a big sheet of the screen they use on old John Deere tractors, with the finger grooves for easy cleaning (pleated, if you will). More filter area per square foot of radiator. Mounting to inside of grill is good idea, but most of my biggest bugs/rocks seem to go through the bumper holes so may want to put something there, too.
  14. I'm not exactly sure what the max temp is shown on the gauge, but my yellow starts at like 1200-1250 degrees. I got to thinking later that it very well could be that I just have too much CANbus fueling in my Level 3 table for towing. It's great for empty! Before I tow much again I'll use that tune as a starting point for a tow tune, but just back down the % CANbus in the higher PSI range. 15 PSI I'm at 137% and slowly rises to 144% at 28 PSI which I don't think I ever see.
  15. I wonder what one of these Kohler engines costs. Would be WAY more horsepower than my 1986 6.2L Blazer! https://kohlerpower.com/en/engines/product/kdi3404tcr-scr-141hp I think you're right. Curt makes something similar. When I looked up the 'scratch and dents' on Amazon, it wasn't much more to get a full Class IV Curt hitch than the little bolt-on deal you show. I don't mind the hitch being visible versus hidden behind the bumper, so I ordered it.
  16. That's terrible! I sure hope not for the sake of my DPF, etc.
  17. It's a TOTAL of 800 hours, that's what's crazy! The idle hours are over 200, so the driving hours puts it at over 86 MPH average speed! Clearly something ain't right. CARFAX showed no history of something like this, but there are a couple of dealer entries of "vehicle service". Other dealer entries were very specific.
  18. Can't really disagree on that. Or at least some other engine or engine design with a longer track history of longevity. Not sure if this engine has been around long, but at least it's a USA company: https://demanddetroit.com/engines/dd5/ It does weight 1200 pounds, so that would be a big issue in 1/2 Ton class! The 36 month / 250k mile warranty would be great for you hot-shot guys.
  19. Two photos have been added to original post. I must say it's a little underwhelming in the giddy-up-and-go department compared my 01 with Adrenaline on Level 3. But, it also rides like a cloud compared to the '01!
  20. I was going to snake some of the pretty pictures from the dealer's website but they're already taken down . I'll get some up later, may edit the post to do so. Here's the "hitch"...? A Curt hitch is also on the short list of expenses.
  21. Today I picked up my new to me 2018 2WD Ram 1500 SLT with the Ecodiesel and 8-speed auto. For a newer vehicle it's a darn low trim package, even has manual seats! I think it's supposed to have heated mirrors. It supposedly came with tow package, but there's no 2" receiver, so...? Has 7-way plug and factory brake controller. Dash readout claims to have only 800 hours combined idle and drive time, but has 50,500miles! Something isn't right. New engine or ECM already? A 49-state tune is high on priority list, from Green Diesel Engineering. It's pretty spendy, but they have to recoup their EPA compliance testing somehow, I suppose. So far I'm amazed at the things that seemingly aren't available, like a factory service manual, and Donaldson or Fleetguard filters. Most of the filters are just pleated, not the fancy synthetic material! Both oil and fuel. Strange coming from Cummins or small block Chevy where there's a billion choices.
  22. Gee whiz! Even with the Adrenaline, wow. Oh, and I bought the Ecodiesel this evening. ~50k miles. Pick it up tomorrow after they get an updated safety inspection.
  23. You're right, the forum I had read must have "misspoken". Or does the Alfa work through the OBDlink? Like uses its Blueteeth? On the 3.55 vs. 3.92 topic, if I start to tow with that truck versus the '01 I may check more into the 4.10 gears I see are offered by Yukon and Richmond, and step up to 20" wheels for some bling . Lots of guys here at work took off their stock 20s for aftermarket, so I can get the wheels cheap/free and put on summer tires. Keep the 17s for dedicated Winter tires (Blizzak, etc.) The trailer hitch has me baffled. I'll be sure to take some photos even if I don't buy the truck. It's like there's a piece missing, or its only job is to reinforce the bumper when a ball is mounted to it - true bumper pull.
