  1. Anyone with a Smarty in the area that could help ?
  2. dodgethis91cmns, it didn't say where you or your friend live. My friend lives in California and said the state checks for chips or anything that is not stock. They don't care if it's for better mileage or not. ANYTHING besides stock will get ya a BIG fine. Check if this is also in your state. If like in California, then sell and move. I did. I use to live in California, retired and now VERY happy in Tennessee. Don't have to put up will all that bull.
  3. I don't, sorry, but I wanted on this thread since I really want to know the answer. Seems to me he's blowing smoke at ya. But I very well could be wrong. I feel he just wanted to make it look like your getting your moneys worth or check your vehicle out for loose change. They go by VIN numbers only that I know of and if you did mods that are considered illegal.
  4. I hope this is the forum to through this. I have a friend in California with a 2005 Dodge and was thinking of using the 2 Stroke Oil in his diesel. But he threw this question at me ... "With all the State of California smogs for and the fines they LOVE to through out, what has been the problems with using 2 stroke oil in the diesel ?"I'm in a non-smog county and don't know what to say. Actually I now don't care what the State of California wants, but he is my friend. Anyone in a smog testing area that can answer this ?
  5. I know that this topic always ends up with everyones personal beliefs and sometimes it can get intense. Sorry.. but, I use the WIX oil filter and do suggest if anyone does, get the XE series. But as to the shipping container, I have never had one that was any different that what I have seen with other manufactures. No, they do not press on a little plastic cover over the opening of the filter. But I have used them on my prior truck and went 400k without issues and my wife truck only had 65k on it and has been Wix's since the beginning. They may not be considered one of the best by some, but the XE's are good to use. It is determine by your personal desires and what you fell you want to spend on a filter. Unfortunately in my area, it's hard to get Donaldson, Baldwin and such unless you special order or order over the internet, which can cost the same or more. But I have had great service from Wix's so far.
  6. Your right on all counts. As far a tuners, I have the Smarty and once I found what I wanted, I left it alone. On long hauls empty, I picked up 3 mpg empty. I never check or worry when pulling a load, it changes with each load since each load was different in weight and where i was going. The biggest improvement was driving like a 'ole folk.
  7. Just wondering, wouldn't this info be on a Car Facts Report ?Haven't seen one, but from the advertisements, it seems all dealer / many after market shops put your info in there ... ????Anyone know ?
  8. Agree, but there is a saying while on earth: 'Just do it ... and ask for forgiveness later' I learned that working for big oil for 3 decades. I've said it before in forums, in that industry, the basic motto is: Do it, then just wait long enough and they will forget what it was ... and forget. (history has proven this statement)
  9. Well, I was so impressed with Windows, and the last several decades of playing with their OS systems and the memories of hours straightening it out, I'm 100% OS X and never been happier with an OS ever. (I know there are others that hate it, but what ever ...).As long as the family is happy, that's what counts.
  10. I gave up a short time ago and went Mac's for everyone here. But I will say Windows Vista was the 2nd worst OS's Microsoft made. I will admit, before I shot my wife's PC, (yes, I did the shotgun routine with it, it died with a bang), I put in Windows 7 and found out it was one of their best yet. But still had 250 updates in the first 30 days of ownership. Even after 2 years of that, I just got tired of cr*p you have to put up with, with Windows. I hear a lot of great things about running a Linux based systems. My friend says the hardest thing you need to train yourself on it ... is to get the heck off of it.
  11. Now if the pump has been calibrated since your last fill-up, could this skew the accuracy of the test. It's been a while since I noticed, but isn't there a sticker on the pump of the last calibration date ?
  12. Is yours a 2WD or 4WD ?
  13. That puppy must have some real age to her. I don't know of any place for parts, but I did an internet search. One place advertise the starter, but no picture or price. (They did have warrantees for it ???) And the only website I could find for parts was: http://www.woodauto.com/Unit.aspx?Man=CAV&Ref=1320090 ... and they're in England ! Somewhat locally, (a maybe): http://www.machinerytrader.com/dealers/detail.aspx?CID=2813457 http:// www.tractorpart.com There has to be a place locally for parts. Can't see a Massey of any age not having parts handy. Good luck !
  14. I agree with you mike. There is a pot of waste out there. But there is one minor factor missing. The person. I have been in the 'HABIT' and 'BELIEF' you change oil at a max of 5k in the other vehicles I've own. I don't run my Dodge with heavy loads all the times and per the manufacture schedule, I'm to do the 15k between changes. I, personally have a hard time going the 10k I do, but have done oil analysis to give me that 'friendly fuzzy feeling' it's ok. In time the person should 'feel' comfortable when they 'feel. the change is actually ok. Until that time, those who do it every 3 to 5k is COMFORTABLE ... to them. Even if there is waste in oil, money or time.
  15. When I bought my truck, I bought the service manual. I printed a copy of the maintenance schedule I would be using and put it on a clip board in the garage. When each 5k rolled around, I take a minute to look at it an service as needed. If there was an upcoming service that needed parts I don't have or cost a but more than normal, I'd see if I could get them on sale and put them on the shelf. Gonna need them anyway.I'd like a program like this, but like a few others, I only own mac's. They can only warn you on approx time schedules, like the calendars on your computer, but look prettier. So I just look at the speed-o, and each 5k, take a minute as needed to look at the printout an go from there. Been working for the last 46+ years for me.
  16. I believe my manual said 100k. But I highly recommend you check your service manual for at least what the dealer recommends. You can do it then, or sooner if you feel like it. I don't always think the recommended mileage by the dealer is right and do it sooner.
  17. I do the full change at the 10k mark. The manual I have shows the schedule 'A' as 15,000 miles and the schedule 'B' as 7,500 miles. But I'm very old fashion (never gone over 5k in the old days) and 'HAVE TO HAVE' an analysis each change. 2006 Dodge Shop Manua 'Sch A'l.pdf 2006 Dodge Shop Manual 'Sch B'.pdf
  18. I just received an extension warrantee notice for my '06 ( they said all Ram 1500 and 2500 models) multifunction turn signal switch. They said because of a potential manufacturing process variation process ? So to correct this, they are extending the warrantee of my 'switch' from original warrantee to 10 years or 150k, which ever comes first. Seems the exterior and interior turn signal lights CAN malfunction and flash opposite of what the operator selected. This is the first I've heard of this. And in all the years I've own vehicles and have known people have own vehicles, I have never heard of this.Anyone had this problem ?
  19. Back in 2000 I lived in California when they wanted to tax the citizens the mileage they drive each year. They were trying to figure how to track this so you couldn't lie and they can verify. I wonder if this is possibly considered / implemented by the Feds ? I can figure a possible one or two reasons the manufactures might like something like this, but they tend to do things like this only when they are ordered to by the government. And this can open many avenues.
  20. I haven't tried this yet, since when I remember about it I'm usually at home and to close to confirm this.My friend was at the fuel station a couple towns away and was locked out of his truck. He did have his cell phone with him and called his wife at work. When it was sort of quiet with all the traffic coming in and out, he told her to hit it and put the phone next to the truck ... she her hit her key fob ... the doors open.May help someone in the future if it works.
  21. Seems to me it should have been a headlight commercial instead of a car commercial. Now with that insurance commercial with the pig ? Can someone please shoot it and end it ? Enough is enough !
  22. Come on Mike, Orwell wrote a book years ago and they made a movie on it. You forgot the best seller called "1984" ? I'm suppressed they took this long to get to this point ! You trips to the bathroom will be regulated by no later than next year to a) conserve water, b) regulate your weight and c) regulate your health care needs for cost effectiveness. Expect an OBD 5 installed on you soon. (just bend over for proper installation) (Regulatory Fees and Fines will be determined at a later date per Senate Committee recommendations.)
  23. Warm spell ?My friend lives in the Dallas area and sent me this last year. He said he seen it was in the street on the way to work. Now 'that' said what the weather was like in Texas last summer.
  24. Yea, nea on 85 miles east as the crow flies. They say rain on and off today and tomorrow. Sort of feel sorry for the people up in the north 40 where it's really cold. Supposed to be 60 today and a low of 50 tonight. When I moved here the winter was rough enough to freeze trees, but for that one year only, I had a hard time understanding why I never seen #1 diesel. Found out never really need it most years. But sort of like in the middle of everywhere, Canada, Gulf, Mississippi and the atlantic. Easy driving range for my truck.
  25. Just outside of Cookeville. Seems rain is coming in today and the weather is warm for this time of year. The old lady and I were discussing over the morning coffee that I screwed up and should have planted a garden late November. The crops would be ready to harvest soon. Where'd the snow go ?With the way they have it so screwed in washington, is it going to snow in July instead ?Man this is topsy turbie,
