2 Stroke oil in fuel and Smog Test
Thanks for what info was given. I talked to my friend recently and he was telling me a list of what they check and their charges that made me sick. But he did find a way out. He has property in Arizona and since he finally sold his home in California, plus now recently retired, he is going to register in another state as soon as the tags are due again. And the price is cheaper. So he's been trying the 2 stroke now and is happy with the results he's getting.

This is the truest statement ever said. There are 5 things that giver you a good paint job. 1. a person who really knows their job and has pride in their work. 2. quality material 3. exceptional prep work (this is 60% of a good paint job) 4. patience in spraying and with experience 5. stands by their work These shops have done some good work and you may get the up to 5 years you want. A cousin of mine had a truck 11 years and with his efforts of maintaining it. But then again, I've seen many a bad jobs to. Really look over vehicles they just finished and which painter did it, this helps.

Anyone in or from the Air Force?
There are millions of stories and experiences (good and bad) over the decades that can be told. But also consider (add in) the economy. From what I've seen and heard on the news, we are also looking at getting a large hit in the defense budget, which will roll down hill as most stuff will do.No matter who wins the next election, it will be rough for at least the next two years until the fur settles.Choose wisely.

- What do the Family members here do for a living
I'm old and retired, and per my wife, always in the way.Does that count ?- Cool upper rad hose?
When I finish draining and flushing my cooling system, I refill through the thermostat opening 'only' with premix 'slowly' until totally filled. I know al air is out. Then install the thermostat and housing and cap off the radiator. Never have an issue of an air lock since it's only takes a quart or less to cap off radiator and upper hose. And to play it safe, I always change out the thermostat each coolant change. I feel my engine cost to much to to replace by saving the extra couple of bucks by reusing the stat.- 1st I've heard using STP in diesel fuel
It just caught me off guard, I just never read of anyone using this in their fuel tank. But he was comfortable in doing it.I've googled every way I could to find out if this is or can be used as a diesel additive and found nothing as of yet. Like I said, it just caught me off guard.- 1st I've heard using STP in diesel fuel
It was the stuff I've seen in the 70's that was thick and used for oil treatment. He oozed a blob in the tank and flushed it with the nozzle. It amazed me seeing this. But in the STP website, it has nothing on this stuff and I really haven't seen it in years. When I googled it, all I could find about it was on ebay.- 1st I've heard using STP in diesel fuel
I never seen this guy before, and I never heard of this. He seemed like he was somewhat educated, but it could have been a good front. I've never seen this before, and have been on the web ever since. So far I cannot find anything about this. I wouldn't believe this if I didn't actually see it being done. As thick as that stuff is, I'd be leery, even doing a test on it. --- Update to the previous post... I guess it doesn't matter, STP doesn't even make the product now days. Where ever he got the containers must be limited. It was the old STP I haven't seen in 20+ years. But it was strange.- 1st I've heard using STP in diesel fuel
Today I filled the Dodge and while I was there a guy walked up and asked about the 2 stroke oil I was pouring in the fuel tank. During the discussion, he whipped out a jug of STP and poured it down his fuel tank then started filling. He said he heard of the 2 stroke and why people used it, but he preferred STP instead. He mentioned it quite his truck engine, lubed the fuel system and he has been using it for a while. (he said his dodge is a 2002). I have searched all I could on this, even the info here and 2 other sites: http://articles.mopar1973man.com/general-cummins/36-fuel-system/68-hfrr-testing-of-common-diesel-fuel-additives and I have yet seen a test on STP in diesel fuel, or even someone doing this. Anyone heard of this ? Used it ? Test results ?- Scotts oil filters ... has anyone tried them yet ?
My friend has been caring on about trying this oil filter, but I never heard of anyone using one. (Seems to pricy for me, but to each his own I guess.) If you have tried or know of anyone who tried one, does it seems like it was worth the money or not ? Thanks Scotts Performance Oil Filters http://www.scottsonline.com/groupitem.php?Item=2383&Groups=277- New guy from Alberta
Welcome to the group. Truck sounds nice, and I really like that price.- 06 cummins electrical probs
Outside of the normal on and off use, this is per the 2006 owners manual ... Battery Saver To protect the life of your vehicle’s battery, Load Shed-ding is provided for both the interior and exterior lights. If the ignition is off and any door is left ajar for 10minutes or the dimmer control is rotated upwards for 10minutes, the interior lights will automatically turn off. If the headlamps remain on while the ignition is cycledoff, the exterior lights will automatically turn off after 8minutes. If the headlamps are turned on and left on for 8minutes while the ignition is off, the exterior lights willautomatically turn off. NOTE: Battery Saver mode is cancelled if the ignition isON.- Mike, we should make a computer dork thread.. But this one's about portable GPS/NAV
My friends kid was looking into this a while back. This was his reference webpage he was looking into for selecting a program. http://www.maps-gps-info.com/fgpfwmaclinuxunix.html But I never inquired if he finished his projector if it worked properly.- overhead lie o meter
My truck when stock read on the lie-o-meter as 2.2 mpg higher than hand calculated. Since then I increased the tires and used my Smarty and my GPS to correct the change. I changed out to a larger tank. And my overhead is now 2.1 mpg higher than hand calculations. It's never been accurate no matter what I did. But I can use it to see if my mpg is increasing or decreasing while on my trips.- State By State trailer laws for size, speed, etc...
Thanks for covering our bases, Mike. But I see where it says max speed is 55 mph in Calif. Last month I was there and trucks with trailers of all sorts were blowing by me like I was standing still ... and I was doing 70. They might consider updating the charts to say ... ' hang on to your hats' ...- For the first time since I started driving..
It's all in the early learning of the "Want / Need Factors" in life.Sad that most people never learn this and have nothing when the senior years of their lives arrive. I thank God this was pounded into my head as a kid.- avg mpg will not reset
My 06 does the same. My friends 05 will go to 0 and recalculate from there. Guess it started the difference in the 06 models.- Need to understand the logic "high rail pressure=high mpg on the lie-o-meter"
Found out on my 06, the lie-o-meter reads 2 mpg over the true hand calculation mpg. So I use it only to see if I'm improving or screwing up my mpg on runs. Been constant since new.- Joke Y'all Will Like
might be this guy ...- WIX Oil Filter?
They tend for other items in the different areas of the country. They are heavy in Fram, Wix's and such. When I lived on the west coast, they had Fram, NAPA (wix), Purolator, and before I left I seen Mobil 1 everywhere. They were the popular ones. Also the cost was more on average. I live outside of a very small town in a rural community of the state and 100 miles either way from the so call BIG metropolitan towns. Like in the middle of no where (literally). I really don't like going that far for a filter. Soon I will be traveling to see my kids and grandkids @ the west coast and might look into buying what I need for the next year and stock them @ home. (Depends on how much the wife spends going crazy with the grandkids.)- tire size and mpgs
I'm going to have to find time on this one. Originally, I set my tire size change by using a TomTom GPS to get it to read 70 on the speed-o and 70 on the TomTom. When I had to turn the truck in for a recall notice, to play it safe, I changed my settings back to stock for that service. After I got the truck back, I reset it back to SW5 and, per my TomTom, my speed-o reading didn't change in either mode. If the damn winds and rains ever slow down, I'll put it on stock and go to town as I wanted to today and see if it changed. But I seem to remember when changing tire size, it stays until you change it again. Going from stock to SW ??? and back to stock changed all settings, but not tire size. --- Update to the previous post... I put my truck back to stock with my Smarty and through in my TomTom and went to town. The speed at 35, 45, 55 and 70 was on the money. So someone can use their Smarty to set your tire size and not lock in your VIN. Then when they disconnect your truck, the tire size will stay until you have something that will change it again. When I 1st bought my TomTom, I noticed the speed-o was 2 mph (per the GPS) less than what my GPS said. (I have mine reading true for accurate MPG's.) But if you want to be stock, make sure it's 2 mph less than GPS.- WIX Oil Filter?
That's a big problem with me, most everything I find is made in another country or parts are made in another country. I'm old fashion and would like to see at least most of what I can select made in the country I live in. But it seems most are made elsewhere and ASSEMBLED here at most. I have yet to pick up a box and the part falls through. (I guess anything is possible since everyone is getting cheap in their packaging). And I usually look down the opening to see if it's clear ... old habit I guess. But it's been a very long time since I was able to buy Donaldson or Baldwin so I now have a limited experience with them. I changed out the fuel/water separator filter and the Wix's had a thin plastic seal over the opening. Forgot if the final filter had one or not. Last experience was with a Donaldson fuel filter and water/fuel separator filter. And they were packaged the same as the Wix I get now. Did they change ? It was mentioned in this thread of the Mobil 1 filter. In my area, (I must be way in the sticks), I can go to AutoZone or O'Reilly's and such, but to get them, but it's a special order to have them included in their next order deliver to the story. There is a Cummins Filtration office in the area, and they actually have the products going through the building. I tried to see if I can buy there. They said they do not deal with the public and I need to find a store that sell their products. I might be an a** for thinking this. But if they in the business of selling filters, why not sell filters ? The lady wouldn't go as far as to tell me who in the area I can go to and see of buying from. - What do the Family members here do for a living
