My Catch can/ vapor canister
Using hose should be no issue when it comes to inner degrading of material. Hoses now days are made of gas and oil resistance material. That would take many many years to do and would be from age and temperature changes. I would think that the softness of the hose would sag in places collecting slight puddles of oil over time and possibly restriction of vapor flow, (if this might cause a problem). But that can be a non issue if layer out and supported right.

Driver will not be putting that wheel cover back on his mini-van!
Hey Dorkweed, sounds like you either live or lived there, right ? I lived there 39 years and had to get out.

Aftermarket tranny pan worth it?
I'm looking at the Mag-Hytec and they supply the extension, gasket and bolts needed. The only thing you need besides the oil is the standard filter. I'm looking going through Thoroughbred Diesel since they have free shipping and the price is the same as everyone else.

I agree with JAG1. I've been reading on it and the next change will be installing one. The drain plug is a plus, but the extra oil and surface area for cooing helps.

Driver will not be putting that wheel cover back on his mini-van!
This is normal AND acceptable driving practices on the Southern California Highways. And when there is the evening rush hour and everyone is going home, if you leave 1/2 to 3/4 spacing between you and the car ahead ... they will FORCE their way in.

If someone doesn't like using PVC then why not copper tubing/pipe ?Wouldn't it be the same thing, but cost a bit more ?

Air Filter
If your staying with the stock filter, from what I've been reading, Mopar is as good as most others, but your paying more for the Mopar name. They order their filters from filter companies who can give them constant product availability and cheap prices, then stick the Mopar name on it. The standard pleated paper filter or the over size paper filter from any decent company should work fine.

Dodge OEM parts microfiche from 1982 to 2011
When traveling the internet and other sites, I found this and thought it might interesting or might help someone here. I haven't seen them posted here that I know of. Of any interest ? Site addresses with Dodge OEM parts microfiche from 1982 to 2011. All PDF based, very searchable. Each is good size but you can save for later use. 2006 - 2011 http://www.gmb.be/CJD_parts/CD5/Catalogs/index.pdf (scroll up to find trucks after clicking a year) 2002 - 2005 http://www.gmb.be/CJD_parts/CD4/Catalogs/index.pdf 1997 - 2001 http://www.gmb.be/CJD_parts/CD3/Catalogs/index.pdf 1982 - 1996 (a little different than the others) http://www.gmb.be/CJD_parts/CD1/Catalogs/index.pdf

filters??
Ok now, ya'll been talking about normal diesel, grades 1 & 2. But with all this blending of 5% to what is the max sold normally now, 20% ??? Bio ... what does that change for Gel temp ? And is it still blended into #1 diesel ? (We only sell #2 year round here.)

filters??
If I'm seeing right, fm676 indicates he lives in 'land o lakes fl', I don't think it gets that cold there. But other than that I agree with ya.

filters??
I have a 8 micron pre-filter and a 3 micron final filter on mine with the stock in-tank fuel pump with over 60k on it, and have no issues with fuel supply or pressure. So there would be no issue for now as long as you pump is in good shape.

Another wind shield wiper issue - HELP !
I give up. Did everything I could to find this thing. Wrote it all down in sequence of event. Didn't want to but went to the dealer. They had it plugged in, tried everything, had me there to walk them through it .... nothing happened. (Now I know how my wife feels when she told be that in the past and nothing happened). Thank God they charged nothing since they couldn't find anything. I was surprised on that call.So I'm going to let it happen until it throughs a code or breaks. Then I'll have something to work with.

Buy a truck with missing tittle ???
I agree with the prior two people.I have never heard of a bank not having the paper copy of a title. Electronic copies for a bank is fine for the bank. But a state is a different animal. I have yet to fine a state that will not re-issue a paper copy, to either a bank or private person, as long as their fees are paid and they have a legal right to a title. Is the cost if this worth it ?Are your ready to do the paperwork and wait time ?Once you get it and this title issues are on going, will your insurance company still insure it ? (mine won't)Will you be able to drive it once the present tags are expired ?I wouldn't walk that path no matter how much I would save.

Another wind shield wiper issue - HELP !
It's been happening a while … when I start my windshield wipers in the variable timer mode; [*]On the first swipe the wipers will swing up and pause, then finish the swipe and continue working. [*]Or, it will do the first full swipe and pause on the return swipe, then work properly. [*]After the first swing and the pause happen, they work properly for a while, but will do it again if run for any real length of time. [*]No set pattern except for the first swipe. [*]Now, if I turn them on in the constant wipe mode (slow speed or fast speed) it will work properly. This started a couple months back, and is not normal for the truck. [*]I cleaned the blades thinking it was dirt. [*]Then not just cleaned, but really cleaned the windshield. [*]Inspect for chipping or flaws on the windshield. [*]Changed out the existing wiper blades with quality blades. [*]Even changed those out for another brand blades. [*]Read the shop manual for possible mechanical problems. [*]Talked to the shop for ideas. [*]Shop checked the wiper unit and said they found no issue. [*]Read thru this website and other websites until crossed eyed. No ideas left, and nothing has corrected the problem. It has to be 'something simple', just haven't found it yet. Not a real big problem, but in the spring the wife and I are going on a cross country run and don't want this breaking down on the road. Anyone have an idea ?

Diesel Additive Study
There is a download section here, Hawkez, please feel free to look it over. Mike has a lot of info there. Some write ups are easier to understand for one person than another, and may contain the same info.As long as it makes you one step higher in your understanding is what counts.

Frantz filter for transmission
I would like to know also, why add another trans filter ? In the past I was considering adding one, but after discussion with a Tim Holt out of texas, (who has over 20 years working on them) and who specializes in Dodge, Chevy and Ford transmissions, said even if the added filter has a bypass, it can deprive the trans oil flow and pressure and have you taking a trip to the shop for major repairs. If you change the oil and filter when due, adjust the bands when needed, you'll have no problems and no extra cost. Even the manufactures have stop the idea of adding anything besides the basic filter, and the trans oil is one of the highest cleaning fluids ever for auto trans. He said if anyone wants an extra filter for their automatic trans, they should modify the pan by pulling the oil from the pan with an additional pump, through a filter and back into the pan again. Then you can filter without possibly depleting the flow your trans already has. But he says it's a lot of money for something not needed. Is it worth the risk ?

Biodiesel at ARCO
Seen something in that write up that caught my eye. Lower Energy Content (2) : The energy content of neat biodiesel fuel is about eleven percent (11%) lower than that of petroleum based diesel fuel, resulting in a power loss in engine operation. Now, the normal standards are diesel is 15% higher energy than gasoline per gallon on average. Bio reduces energy by 11%, leaving our trucks with 4% higher energy than using a gasoline truck. Thus costing us more money per mile moving our vehicles and any load we're hauling / towing ? And from what I've been seeing on the highway, with 5% to 10% Bio, the prices are much the same as locally priced straight diesel. Is this cost effective for the general public ? I remember Ex-President Gore and his group pushing the clean fuels (gas). Old gasoline had lead and cost $ per gallon with X mpg. Removed the lead and injected MTBE, cost more per gallon, less mpg, consumer bought more gasoline to do the same with vehicle. Remove MTBE, Oxygenate gasoline, cost more per gallon, less mpg, consumer bought more gasoline to do the same with vehicle. Still Oxygenate gasoline, inject corn squeezing, cost more per gallon, less mpg, consumer buys more gasoline to do the same with vehicle AND more for household food consumption. Now, I'm just wondering if the Gore gang is pushing the same with diesel for their higher profits only ? 5% to 10% Bio in diesel on the highway is the same price I see here for normal diesel without the Bio. Shouldn't it be % less ? Europe is using more diesel than ever before because of the energy content per gallon, allowing the engine manufactures to design and get more mpg, more horse power and not as much trash added to the vehicles as we have. What are their % of Bio per gallon at the average pump ? Am I thinking and seeing wrong ?

Obamacare is so screwed up
I will not argue that, but benefits were a major part of it. Over the years since the beginning, the unions had help many and have made the work environment safer. But in the last 3 decades, they have also played the games with government and have put each state into a financial bind. Facts are facts. I was very happy with my local union up to the chairperson, but was very, lets say unhappy with higher in what they pushed from the companies AND the hourly union employees. But that is my personal experience with them. The company I retired from is contemplating on killing the medical benefits for the retired and let them fend for O'Care instead. As we are retired we are not active union employees and the union was telling the active members that since we are not paying union dues, because retirees don't, they basically don't care. I guess they go where the money flows, not where it flowed for decades to fatten their bellies. As for the increases in O'care prices, I seen on the news that it differs from state to state. Most will increase. A couple of nights ago, a couple in Georgia said they had a notice from their insurance company stating their monthly payment will increase from just over $300 / month for the basic plan they have to over $900 for the same plan, stating it was adjusted for O'Care guide lines.

Obamacare is so screwed up
Government gets more $'s than ever before is a simple statement of the total number is higher than prior decades. Never mention the value of the dollar then or now, AND the federal records state this.I was union before retirement, and our then and now medical, dental, eye plans is consider a 'Cadillac Plan' as will most every union / company plan, and is penalize as such. Consider this, a company, when the union contract expires, walks out of negotiations because they refuse to have a medical plan and wants to go O'Care. It's a qualified medical plan ... Right ? It can be the one they have for management also, right ? Or offer no one any coverage, union or hourly, right ? Now, why would a person want to get into / stay union when this happens ? My youngest is a longshoreman and he says there is VERY big rumbling going on with the members and the union upper management. People are Very P.O. right now. And they still have to vote the management in office. Could be major changes in the horizon ?As for Hitler, he was a mad man, but he grew the economy before he drove it under. Where's our growth ? 1 to 2 % ? Is this consider growth ? And the government control over the population, do we want what they had then ?Bad enough what we have now, and it can get worse. There is a better way to have medical options for 'everyone' without having what we have now. This administration just doesn't want it anyway other then their way.

2001.5 service manual
Actually I found I'd rather the electronic version. I print only what I need at the time and don't care if I get it dirty or greasy, it's in the trash if in that condition, or if not in a binder for later use.My wife has an iPad, and it's there if we're on a trip. It's in my laptop if her iPad is low on juice. My paper manuals from prior vehicles look like they went through hell and lost the battle. Can't seem to part with them.

Obamacare is so screwed up
I'm sorry to say but my guy in DC is Corker, one of the 'OLD GUYS' in political beliefs. Last night I just emailed him an ear full because I believe he's going to vote YES and give Reid the approval to remove the O'care defunding from the house bill before they vote on the spending approval. (just a gut feeling after his comments about Cruz).I now feel there are two classification for the conservative side: 'Republicans' and 'Democrats in Republican clothing'for the Democrats it's all for one and one for all to tax our way to bankruptcy.Sorry ... venting again.

Obamacare is so screwed up
I believe Ted is more for the people since he only has 8 months in and still believes he was elected by the people and SHOULD represent the people. I hope he doesn't change and represents himself in the future. (I fell my senator represents himself most the time)I read the obamacare bill after it was passes (I'm sorry I did) and did find 20 new taxes. But the opening(s) for the government to increase the bill size left me speechless. We are to cover medical cost for people who can not afford the cost was covered already. People were going into hospitals, getting help, and the cost was added to the doctors and hospitals debt. In turn they charge more to the ones that paid and had medical and the premiums went up. I called it the original obamacare phase 1. Not only were we covering non medical covered people, but any foreigners too. A texas hospital said they has 80% illegals without any coverage or money and they HAD to cover them per the federal laws. So they just put it in a BIG bill with plenty more taxes to add on the working people. I want to here what everyone will be saying 1 Jan 2014 when it's in effect with the cash coming out of everyones pockets. And for those that are retiring or will soon, hang in there. My premiums have drastically increase since retirement and the coverage is questionable. But per obama, I can cover my kids until 26 years old, (my youngest is 33 years old). My wife is covered for many female medical conditions (.. that is unneeded at her age). So in a sense, we're paying more as time goes by for less usable coverage and a lot of unusable coverage. We had a plan selection before, not a one size fits all.And on the news last night, it proved the federal government is receiving more tax money then ever before. (I'm sorry, this is a very sour topic for me.)

New member
Might I mention when we ask for the state, there is more to it than that. I live in TN, and there are 4 major metropolitan cities that most people know of. They are included in the smog requirements as with most states. But for the most part, living outside those areas, like I do, there are NO requirements standards for registration except paying the registration bill when due.

Biodiesel at ARCO
Thanks MmTom, it did give me some info, but in the winter in your area, is that #1 diesel with Bio, or are you still #2 with Bio ?Until I was pondering this thread, I never wondered if adding 2 stroke oil to diesel changed the temperature for the jell point. Funny how things just pops up.Here, we're #2 diesel all year long. On trips when I need fuel, I usually just fill and keep rolling.

Biodiesel at ARCO
This might be a little off topic here, (if so, sorry) but it pertains to Bio and Petroleum Diesel. It just hit me that in the cold winter months in the northern areas, diesel gels and there is a need for some areas to go to #1 diesel. This pertains to the gel point temp for both diesel. [*]Is the gel point temp for Bio diesel higher / lower than petroleum diesel, or the same? [*]For petroleum diesel, when using 2 stroke oil as an additive, does this change the gel point temp? [*]Has anyone noticed when using Bio (or a ratio of Bio) over petroleum diesel, is there an advantage in winter? [*]For those that live way up north, do they add 5%, 20%, ??% Bio in winter or not? (sorry, I never noticed this when traveling in the northern area during winter months.) I'm sorry, but these questions just came over this old coot. Any answers ?
