Bad Neighbor...
The old woman who lived next door moved to her daughter home so she could be cared for. Her house is about 400+ feet from my house. Her grand daughter moved in with her live-in boy toy. This guy is an idiot. He loves to play loud rap / thumping music for hours and late into the night. Even with the windows closed and the air conditioner on, you feel the thumping through the walls and windows. After having words, it still went on and I called the cops. The local cop asked if I would see if there was a pattern on times for what days. Then he happened to be driving by and after one warning, started issuing tickets. Seems the guy got several tickets before the 1st court date and they weren't paid. The cop testified and the judge totaled the tickets up, gave him a warning of one more time, jail time, if tickets not paid in a certain time, a bench warrant and an arrest for not complying with the court order, and possible more jail time, and since it always happens with his car stereo, (nothing from the home radio) the car could possibly be confiscated. The cop gave me his telephone number and said is there was more problems, call and he would be by. No more problems so far.

How much you Guys payin' for Insurance?
Have the Dodge and the wives pickup with full coverage (+) and the 6 mo bill is $500. But there is a discount since I have the house and Harley with the same company and have been there for decades with clean driving records. Still looking for cheaper if possible. (Heck when I lived in California it was over $850 for the 6 months)

So What's in Your Tool Box for yer Long Haul Travels?
I carry the same tool box I've had for the last 40 years. Since I haven't had issues on the road so far, I try not to carried much extra. As time goes by, I guess I will change that as needed, but trying to keep it light as long as possible. If it's in cold weather I have a crate that holds chains and such, warm weather nothing extra. But I make sure my AAA card is paid up to date incase. (Wondered what I would have to do if I had my trailer on the run and something happens. Been fortunate so far ... knock on wood.) I guess you can say I've been blessed so far.

New exhaust any idea's?
I've been through a lot over the years and sort of feel like your old man. No matter what I decided in the past, most choices were costly and really didn't do anything for the benefit of the truck or mainly myself. How much do you really see of the exhaust. Could your old man be talking from experience and trying to save you the dollars and headaches that he did in his past ? Ever ask him of his reasons for telling you this ? Ask, then mull it over a taste and decide what's best for you ... then do it.

End of my rope victory!
You make it sound like it wasn't intended. I was curious on labor charge rates now and in his area verses the last tie I was at the dealer. Sooner or later everyone will end up taking it to the shop ... just like to keep up with the hourly rates as time goes on. This way there is no shock when driving into the dealers bay.

End of my rope victory!
I might of missed it, but might I ask how many hours did that $720 pay for ?

What Happen ?
One thing that I didn't catch was what kind of water is used to flush and or mixed with the antifreeze ? Like I use a hose to flush, but run 2 to 3 gallons of distilled to flush the residual water, then start a 50/50 mix refill. I've always used distilled water and never had an issue. I knew people using tap and did have issues. Hows your water ?

#4 fuel injection line
The holiday is over and during that time I've found many complaints about the line. Had to use several ways to word it before I found all the comments. Seems there is a big problem with the #4 line, but until recently, I've never read anyone having this issue. Thanks for the response, and I guess I'll be ordering one soon for storage under the back seat until needed. At the start of this question I wrote Geno's and finally got a response, Andy wrote: According to the Dodge Factory Service Manual, due to the extremely high fuel pressures required for the injectors, all of the fuel injector lines are the same length, and inside diameter. Because of this, the replacement should look like the original. The only difference we can see between the original, and the new version replacement is that the new version has a bracket molded around a solid rubber cushion, where the original has a blue clam-shell isolator around the line that is attached to the bracket. The current Cummins part number for the new style line is, 5289447.

#4 fuel injection line
I'm visiting a friend and when we were using his truck (05 Ram ~ stock) to take large pile of trash to the dump, when his #4 fuel line started to leak due to a crack in the line next to the fitting. When we went to the dealer for a replacement, they had a few on the shelf and told us this line has had problems of cracking. Per the dealership parts guy, the line is so short, it can't take the vibration over time. This Cummins replacement is different because it is now designed to give a slight flex for the constant vibration. Installed and it was working perfect. But my friend said this happen before. At 130k the first time and 180k this time. Geno's has a replacement that looks the same. Does anyone know of this weakness and if these replacements actually work better than the stock fitting ? Is this a common issue and I haven't found any threads about it yet ?

Extra Life Oil Filters
Yes the filter was the same and new each time. I do the test and basic service all together. I'm old and lazy, I only want to jump in and make a mess once if possible. I'm not a pro, but I try to maintain a constant when sampling, other wise it's a waste of time and money. Right now I'm out of state visiting a friend who's wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer and she wants to see everyone before it overpowers her and she fears forgetting friends and family.

Extra Life Oil Filters
One thing I’ve seen was filters and oil discussions general brings a heated argument, good to see this one isn’t. I have read and studied on this and it seems to vary a lot. Even with the engineers where I retired from. So the one thing I can count on is documented results. Normally I do between 10k to 15k per year on my Dodge, the average amounts of driving light and the general use of my trailer each year. So I change the oil at 10k. Never had any problems with this. Each time I send a sample in for full results. Because I wanted to decide what is best for me, and this manner was normal for me to accept and be comfortable with. I normally use Mobile 1 full synthetic oil, 5w-40. And I know others like and prefer other brands, but this is what I use. So keeping this as a standard, my variable will be the filter, fresh oil each change and a different filter brand each change. The sample results indicated if they preform for me or not. To make a long story short, (it took 6 years to decide this) the best results were very close, the top 2 were Baldwin and Donaldson filters with Fleetguard close behind. I have made the Donaldson ELF7349 my standard. The results from my samples indicated they were better than the next closest brand, Baldwin. I just suggest trying a few samples each change with the variable being ‘only' the filters with fresh oil of the same brand and weight, and decide from there. As to if they can plug early, I never know if they ever have, I have no flow indication or delta pressure indications to determine this and would like to know a simple way to know when it happens.

Ram 1500 diesel
for those that are into the ram 1500 diesel, here's a article that I found in another forum; http://green.autoblog.com/2014/05/09/hypermiling-ram-1500-ecodiesel-38-mpg/ Seems if your really wanting MPG's, you can get it with this rig.

Squirrel launcher
Does anyone have something like this for rabbits ? Just seen 2 in the wife garden this morning and when I seen the above clip, it looked somewhat helpful if I can do this to them. I was going to pull out the 22, but there is a house built back in the distance that I worry about if I miss. Last year there was none and I wouldn't care if I missed. If nothing else, I guess I might have to buy a pellet rifle.

'stand yer ground' or 'flee'. geez
I seen advertised from the police, 'They are there to protect and to serve'. But I was told by a cop that the police actual duties are to investigate and apprehend the criminals ... AFTER the crime has been committed. Less than 5% of the time (and that is way less than 5%) they are actually present to stop the crime from happening. The cop was my father and I fell I can trust the source. If someone enters my house uninvited, or anyone of my family feels their life is in jeopardy, I will defend my family, period. And I agree it is over doing it by unloading a clip if someone is in your home. I have a 12 gauge and one to a maximum two shots will be enough. Then if that is not enough, my wife can either pass the pistol or use it herself. We believe a weapon is a tool, we have these tools, and if needed, we will play no games.

Myself Turns 50 Today!?
I can't fax anything since I don't fax. But I will have a couple of shots of this Tennessee Moonshine I have in you honor. 50, that was a while back there for me. Happy B day old timer.

A rant about Verizon...
Did you read the article from the LA Times about Verizon ? My wife showed me this article about 2 days ago from the internet version of the LA Times. Verizon Wireless states: They are not only dropping a cookie in your computer when you sign in that allows them to work on your computer, but when you sign out or leave their site, they can now track your web browsing to find where you go after visiting them and sell this to vendors for marketing. You have to delete their cookies each time you leave their site to stop this. Sneaky in my eyes. In the article, they openly admit they do this. They said there is no personal information like ID or passwords collected, just where you go after the contact with their webpage. You pay monthly bills to them for their services and they make extra from your web searches. And they admitted this information is for sale but won't say to who, per the article.

HeartBleed
Been listening to the news with this HeartBleed bug out there and from what I seem to understand with limited knowledge, companies are racing to block the bug in it's track. It might be in over 60% of companies software, like the banks and credit cards system ? I have received many email from friends telling me about a free program called LastPass ( https://lastpass.com ) that states this will be the last password you'll ever need to remember and the program will prevent HeartBleed, and others like it. Has anyone tried this yet ? If so what did you run into for pros or cons ? Like or not ? I have downloaded and installed and for the couple of days of testing it, seem to have problems with it. Like I always had to reinstall or re-login into it again. More of a pain in the a$$ than worth using. OR it just could be me. Like the so call cure is worst than the infection itself ? Thanks.

A rant about Verizon...
Glad you're happy with it. The important thing is if your happy, it's worth what ever it cost. But after 2 years with Verizon, I wasn't. That's why I changed. This weekend, one of my kids finally was able to port their number over and asked me to go to Wally World and walk min through it. No problem. He ended up with Straight Talk and bought the Samsung Galaxy S3 they had on sale for 350. But after talking to the sales lady, she did [prove to me that if you get on their plans, you can decide which system you wanted. Here it is stronger signals and reception on the Verizon / Sprint systems. And I mentioned before, that's the CDMA systems in the USA. The phone DID NOT come with a SIMS's card (we looked at the SIM's Card Slot, it was empty) and that would indicate it's Verizon / Sprint system that does not use a SIM's card. If he wanted to go SIM's (or the ATT / T-Mobile system) he would have to buy a SIM's card from Straight Talk, (which isn't much) and insert that. So he went from Verizon to a Verizon system and pays less per month for what he had, Unlimited Talk, Unlimited Text, and now Unlimited data. (Which was only 2 gig per month PLUS extra if you went over). I was treated with respect when dealing with Verizon during the entire time I was there. Heck, my wife retired from Verizon, we know many people that are retired AND still working there. Not so much at the local stores, but in the main facilities and customer service centers. She even agrees with me, it like the communication companies center view point, it's all down to the dollar at the end of the month. All the frills and who ha's are nice, but it's the dollar at the end of the month. And I might be wrong, but in the end, it seems like the service you get, the price you pay at the end of the year, Straight Talk ends up dollar for dollar in the lead ..... AT THIS TIME ! Now this to could change, grasshopper ...... it's in their hands .......

A rant about Verizon...
Oh, something I forgot to mention about the Straight Talk system, they don't roam. Either your in the assigned system, or not. But so far, I haven't noticed loss of signal. I 'was' on Verizon here in the country where I now live. I will say we did have service, but they only provide maximum 3G, sometimes. It phases in and out. We're to far from the big city and the population to thin for them to invest in. That was from Verizon. ATT and Sprint was the other large carriers, but they only provide over contract towers also. That's if and when they work. You can loose signal, and they will contact the contractors, but they will check and fix when they feel they want to. 1, 2, or 3 days later. Verizon contract towers were the same day or 'maybe' the day later. (from personal experience) But if you have or have not service, you better get they full payment in 'ON TIME.' Cell service here is very frustrating to say the least.

A rant about Verizon...
I now have Straight Talk like YabbaDoo has, but only had it 6 months. And I very much like it so far. I will say I have traveled from the middle of Tennessee to the ocean off California and deep down the strip in Vegas, and have had no more issues that when I had ATT & Verizon. The difference I found are: You buy your own phone (most are not that expensive) You start off month to month, no 2 year contract to start You can access payment with the pre-paid cards from Wally world, credit card, or debit card from your bank Prepay per month, 3 month, 6 months and a year ahead You can have ATT or Verizon towers access nation wide. They have their rules like all the other bug boys do, but they have it all on the internet and they are easy to understand and live with. Not like the booklet Verizon wanted me to agree reading but didn't want me to read. There are 2 types of cell phone systems: GSM (most of the US and only used in Europe) - (ATT and T-Mobile systems) CDMA (only in the US that I can find now, maybe Canada but unsure) - (Verizon and Sprint systems) If you want to be mainly on GSM, you can get the Wally World Samsung and such, and you will have a SIMS card in there that will keep you in the ATT - T-mobile world If you wan the CDMA, Verizon and Sprint world, you can use the Wally world LTZ phones. They are fully CDMA. My brother has one and is completely happy with it. The better one, their Majestic is the one he has and brags about, cost $179.00. You can read this one the Wally World site or go to the LTZ site. (or is it LZT ??? One or the other) I found all this out after I joined, so I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 for me and the wife. Never an issue with them so far, and the accessories are still out there. They're also cheaper now, $349.00 Instead of having a long a$$ contract with the big boys and paying $180 a month for 2 cell phones, I now pay $90 each month for 2 cell phones, and laugh each time I use that extra money to buy more diesel. You get unlimited as the others, Only the data slows down when you max out on the data until the next month. They fully back again. Not pay more for the overage as with Verizon and ATT. Either way, with the trash happening over the digital world, if nothing else, get a good Virus cleaner for the phones. You can find a free one, like Clean Master or CM Security off the Google Play Store that comes with every Android phone. Sorry, was going to say 2 cents worth and rambled on for over a bucks worth. I was tired fighting with Verizon and now have a nicer life, except when the kids call for something.

Road Rage Karma Bites Back!
Thanks, I really enjoyed this clip. The wife and I are on the road and west of Amarillo Texas there was a dude that was jumping in and out of traffic. I guess he decided at the last second he wanted the off ramp. Well he sort of missed it by about 30 feet and was traveling in the desert through the barbwire the state/feds put up. Sort of stop our trip for a bit. And as the ambulance drove off, my wife ask me if he maybe learned a valuable lesson ??? (I'll bet he didn't)

Engine Oil What Weight ?
First couple of years I ran Rotella 15w-40. Then I retired and the wife and I started running the country visiting family and friends. Was visiting a friend in New York one winter and when I tried to start the truck, I did not like the sound or oil pressure. Went to 5w-40 full synthetic. Later found out during a call to Cummins, they sends out all their engines with Valvoline Full Synthetic and recommends using it. I use the 5w-40 year round because I never know where we might end up at, what season of the year it might be in and in what weather condition. Just service when due and go.

Engine Oil What Weight ?
I've run 5w-40 year round since I never know where I might be and have never had an issue with oil flow in any area, in any season. But I do run sync.

What Is Your "winter Weight"?
Unless needed, I keep her stock weight and with what is needed at the time could be up to another 150 #'s ~ summer / winter. Figured why carry if I'm not using. As to actual pounds total, it was not needed yet so I never put her on the scale.
