  1. Don't know the refinery your at, but can I ask ...In all the time you've been there, except for turn-a-rounds or unforseen equipment failures ... have you ever run less than full / maximum throughput ?(Except for the above mentioned situations, I worked on the west coast for over 30 years and the entire refinery was 'never' been below max.)
  2. When they past the law to drop the ppm of sulfur in the fuel, they modified the sulfur unit to accommodate the extra amount they had to remove, process and store to sell. The work was some and cost a bit of cash. There was actually a demand for the extra product. When they went to the latest, the ultra low, they had to do some equipment changes and spend some real cash to update. But there is a market for the product, just slightly more product than they need so per supply and demand, they play their games. In all, it wasn't that costly that they needed to send the prices per gallon to the moon. There are people out there that must have the latest fad thing. And there was a time the diesel pickup was a bit of a fad. Mainly they have their place for what they do, they work, but just some people need and want the biggest and different than the others. Really, who needed the Hummer when it came out to drive to work, or take the baby for a ride to put them to sleep ?And lets not forget the old supply and demand process. If you can make a demand from the product you sell, where people 'need it' supplied constantly, then we make it a bit hard to get and their supply is limited, the price can go up ... until there is an over supply of product and you loose again. So if they keep processing the product, and ship as much as they can overseas for a higher profit per barrel then here ... then show a supply demand here to move the price here to the moon ... supply and demand will take care of us. End result, everyone just pays more using 'their' method of supply and demand.
  3. I remember when diesel was cheap, mostly truckers used it for the 18 wheelers. But I remember when it was the beginning of the smaller vehicles started using diesel. Slow at first, but as it increased and they started putting them into pickups, the truck sales went up and not long after, diesel prices went up. They saw a constant supply need and the greed kicked in. (late 80's early 90's ???)
  4. Your not wrong. When the law dropped the sulfur ppm, the crude units needed to make some minor mods to their vessels, but real minor. The need to improve the sulfur plants for a higher through out was done, and production was continued. I worked the light end frac unit (C3 - C8) for 12 years and that was after the crude units. Some of our cut was shipped to the FCC to be cracked and blended to gasoline, and other products. One of our cut was shipped to the alkylation unit and they made nothing but raw gasoline to be blended. So diesel is after the initial process cut. (cheap to make, like jet, fuel oil and such). Now, lately I heard on the news that sometimes as high as 40% of diesel processed in the good ole USA is shipped out to other countries for a higher profit. And this is allowed by our Feds. Might this be one reason ?
  5. My 06 had the 4" stock and I went with the 5". I have a flow through resonator and I can say my exhaust temp dropped, not a lot but did. (I don't have an EGT added to my truck, but borrowed a mobile device from where I retired from and did a test pre and post change out.) With the 4" you have and a flow through muffler or resonator, you should be happy. Myself, if I could do it again, I just would have removed the muffler and added a flow thru resonator, staying with the 4" piping. Slight increase in sound, but not bad at all.My friend has the 4" stock system and went straight thru by removing the muffler and inserting a straight pipe, and it was to loud. (His test.) He later added a resonator.
  6. I don't think he can since it doesn't start for at least another year minimum.Oh, that's right ... THEY don't have to use obamacare, they except themselves and we pay for their healthcare. Sorry, I almost made a mistake. (sorry, I thought we were talking about obamas nose burn)
  7. Isn't there an old saying:The Truth HurtsChildren are far to smart for their age.
  8. Got mine from Transfer Flow. It's heavy metal and when it arrived, everything I needed was there. Shipping was quick. The installation was easy, but you should have minimum 2 people to install. It's 56 gallons, and if you cap it off just before a run, you can cap it with an additional 5.6 gallons. So it's 61.6 gallons. (Heads Up: They send the vent valves new when you order, but the o-rings are silicon. I had a leaker, and when I went to find an o-ring, I just installed the standard rubber rings and the leak issue went away.)Called AERO in California when looking and the guy I talked to seem rude and did not answer my questions. He must of had something important to do instead of talking to a customer. When I called Transfer Flow, they took the time to answer and asked after each question if I understood and if not he'd walk me through it again. Way different in customer care. Also, when I said I was installing it myself, directed me to the website for installation instructions, then reviewed it with me to make sure I was comfortable with it. Way more help than I needed, but was happy with them. When you order 'any' over size tank, if you have an out of tank lift pump, make sure it's not in the way. (its been a while, but they had the measurements on the webpage). I still have the in-tank lift pump, and with wanting the out of tank pump, need to figure best place to install. It's not a small tank.Personally, I am not to happy with the plastic tank, so the steel made me happier. I'm also thinking of an in-bed addition to add way more range. Been VERY happy with it. But remember, it's a shock to your system when you first fill it up.

  10. After all the years I had to have Windows and going through the updates and trying to correct all the changes that can and usually occur, one week of updates decided for me it was time to move. It was on a Vista OS (almost as bad as millennium) and I installed the upgrade to the 7 OS. During the 1st week it had over 250 updates and life was a bit of hell from then on. I changed everything at home to MAC and have had very little to no stress since. Once you figure out the difference in the OS (which was not hard) I'll never go back to Windows and there need to take 50% of your time on a computer with their updates correcting their screw-ups. The wife is so please with it ... she's pretty much have all the kids converting as they can to it. When you can, check it out and consider a change to sanity instead.
  11. I've seen people use them at home and it takes a bit to learn, (not long), but the products came out nice. One kid was making money doing it at home to pay his education. He sub-contracted out to local body shops and parts store near his home.
  12. Their manual at: http://manuals.harborfreight.com/manuals/94000-94999/94715.pdf looks similar and the fittings are similar to your that are on page 7
  13. I have the GPS that came with my truck and when it was time to see of updates, it was over $200 for the CD and is a pain in the a** to use while driving. I found a TomTom at the Sams club for under $150 (including tax), and this has '4 updates per year for life'. It's not built in like the Dodge GPS, but great to drop in any truck. Even the wife likes using it. It has: [*]color screen and large enough to be comfortable [*]posted speed, and your actual speed that turn red when your 5 mph over on the unit, which I did not see on the other brands they sold [*]miles to the selected destination with estimated time to travel [*]free options add ons like motels, gas stations, banks, speed cameras and so much more indicated on the screen while on your route [*]plus many pay for add-ons if you want [*]US, Canada and Mexico roads each update [*]clear sound and loud enough to hear with air on or the window down [*]and plenty more for a cheaper unit I will never go on a trip without it. But I'm still old fashion and carry maps out of habit.
  14. Any pictures of the build that you can share ?Seen someone building a hold unit from ground up on the TV, but they had backing of someone with money and theirs were finished fast. Loads of equipment for them to use.
  15. Ever notice when any husband does something that wasn't intended, like this, his wife always happens by ? Must be a marriage kind of thing. Happens here. I can go all day long with nothing happening, then when something happens, she walks in. And mine ALWAYS has a comment.
  16. Tagging on this thread. I have a w/f and filter unit already on, but have been looking into just a plain FASS lift pump and was considering routing the fuel through the filter units first and then the pump. I'd like to see where this goes and what pictures happen. Also, with my oversize fuel tank, even on a long bed, room is somewhat limited for this.
  17. As I have time and the wife likes me (watching tv with her), I usually use my laptop and search the net. I have read many positive pursuits on the additional oil bypass systems many have bought or home made for their trucks. The results are positive per the threads.Like I mentioned here before, I'm an old coot and sort of set in my ways, but will change if it's a positive change. With these reports of the bypass kits, I started asking "what if filter will do it and save the cost of a unit and always using another filter when servicing the truck ?' I have never seen, nor used these, in fact I'm trying to see if anyone has actually used theses. But if they do work, then even if a person changed them out once per year at an average AND changed the oil, then it would be easier and just as good as having a bypass on the rig.If oil samples are as good as they claim, a person could change the oil only once per two years. But like I said, I'm an old coot set in my ways and having a hard time going 10k on my oil as it is. Going two years on it ??? Way to much stress.
  18. Ok people, there have been many discussions pertaining to oil filters ... their preferences and performance. Even thought people tend to narrow their preferences over the years, sooner or later companies always come up with something new. I understand these have been on the market for a while. But I have yet to read (or know of) anyone using these. Microgreenfilter's http://www.microgreenfilter.com/ Anyone ?
  19. Great story. Had me going for a bit, but had to have the wife read. She liked it so much, she's calling the daughter long distance to tell her about it.(the daughter is a prankster, hopes she doesn't do this to her brothers for fun).
  20. Bill, it's not that we're 'to old now for a change' ... It's that we've finally found a somewhat comfort zone that took years and years to get, and it's hard to give it up.
  21. Not enough info, but take a look here when you get a chance. http://www.johndeere-parts-direct.com/
  22. Well take an old coot like myself, and I have selected brands I use constantly. They have proven themselves over the decades I have driven.Nothing against this product, but I have worked in a facility with over 1,400 company employees and over 2,000 contractors and never heard or seen anyone using it. I read countless articles about it, and it has always been highly recommended, but it was a dealer or seller of the product or someone who has been using it for only 30k or 40k and loves it. Now it's hard to find this oil in the sticks (I moved here when I retired) where I live unless you order and wait for it at a very higher cost. And with the oils that have proven themselves to me in the 50+ years of driving and maintaining my vehicles, it's can be hard to change.Maybe if it was easier to get at a more cost effective price I might change. No matter what the manufacture says, I have a set and proven change schedule that has worked, including cost effective for me, But so far I have yet to have engine issues due to the oils I have used.
  23. I happened to look through my 06 shop manual about the seat heater. It should be similar with the 05.Attached is the 9 pages it had on it.Make sure you read page 2, 1st paragraph, before you start. Also is the exhaust system section. 06 Seat Heater Info.pdf 06 exhaust system.pdf
  24. When I bought my 06, I asked the dealer mechanics about the cat and he said your exhaust temp will be slowly increasing when it is going out. Bu that the cat will take a very long time to go sour, if ever. The temp of the exhaust should keep it clean. Now that's what they said, I have not checked the manuals or reports yet, I don't even have 100k on mine. They also said in states that you have to smog, you better keep it on during the testing phase, since the laws usually read it's a manufactures normal exhaust installation to need the epa laws and usually will not pass without it. That's why I'm glad I live in a no smog area.I seen a write up on another site about the heater seat units. They are said to be simple. Just the replacing the heat element unit 'in' the seat is a bit of an issue handling it. It's been quite a while since I seen the write up, but I'll look for you soon, just to late tonight. The mileage sounds solid for the year, but I haven't heard of others in this year range getting very much better.Sound and looks like you made a winner of a selection. Congrats.
