  1. I'm going to read through. I can't pick up any more projects, but it's tempting. Another odd car with a bad rap that is fun are the old diesel Buicks and Cadillacs. A buddy of mine collects them and they are great cars with a set of head studs.
  2. Eh. It is the EPA. You have to have a sense of humor about it. They are a corrupt and horribly managed organization that does far far more harm than good these days. The EPA is going after the money. VW is the biggest bank on the block. Us cummins guys are pretty far down the list. Mabe if they get bored, or the "environmental movement" starts to wane... then I'd worry.
  3. It turns out the truck was owned by a Cyclone rig hand and ran hard enough to shell 3 transmissons in 40k. I didn't learn that until I called up the guy who "built" the trans. Stories didn't match up.
  4. We will see what it looks like, I don't have hardly any blow by. I recall some oily residue in the manifold when I changed my turbo.
  5. Grumble grumble grumble! Nice EGTs. lol
  6. I thought so too, but I just replaced the turbo with the II 62, and the hybrid on there wasn't leaking anyway. It did the same thing before. It is either rings or guides, but if it was rings I would think it would be a bit more consistently smoky. It is kind of white/blue. Definitely oil smoke from smell. I've been around white diesel smoke and it definitely isn't that, or coolant.
  7. So you have an extra chrome intake horn then?
  8. Is that already installed?
  9. When do you expect to need seals?
  10. That will fix the intercooler!
  11. I bought a spring compressor from XDP. $71 shipped. To top hat or not to top hat... I need to pull my valve cover and check if the bosses are machined for the top hat type.

Actually, you do have a fairly desirable truck. Color combo trans, 4x4, etc.
  13. Very interesting. I've never heard good things on working on BMWs... is this model an anomaly?
  14. For some reason, I don't have any oil leaks yet. I am trying to decide if it is worth it to fix or just leave it. It only burns measurable oil if I do a lot of slow driving around town for months on end... If I am on the highway or towing, it doesn't burn any oil.
  15. On some start ups it will blow some white/blue haze (smells like oil) smoke for a few seconds as the EGT rises. Also, if I sit and idle for extended periods, like 5min, when i continue driving it will blow the same color smoke as soon as my egt rises above 500-600. Once it burns the oil out, it doesn't come back, and the truck runs the same smoking or not. The truck runs fine, and uses some oil, but not much... Mabe a quart every 2500 miles at the most. i haven't actually measured it. I am wondering if I am getting excessive oil going down my exhaust valves, and coating the exhaust... either from worn guides or worn seals. I am going to have the rockers off soon for a head stud install, does it make sense to you guys to change the seals as well? And anybody have a good source for a complete Injector & Crossover O ring and valve seal kit? I want to change the O rings as they should be set and are more likely to leak if reused.

4bt mustang... sounds good to me!
  17. 24V is single. 12V is six.
  18. That might be a bit iffy.

Eh, you guys can still hang out. Always welcome!
  20. There are two options... 1. This is America, when it doesn't run right, we thrash the hell out of it! 2. Be like TFaoro, and do a wonderful awesome rebuild that the rest of us envy! Realistically, I might try a stethoscope, a bore scope to look at the flex plate closer if you can borrow one... try to isolate the knock more.
  21. That would be easy to find, just loosen the line to each injector individually til it stops knocking.
