Thats a pretty sweet looking truck. Though I love me some cruise control. What is the trucks purpose of use? Hot shot service on pavement all the time?The lack of 4x4 would bother me, but considering that you are towing with it, you honestly can likely get anywhere you should be taking a trailer with a full set of chains. All it needs is a big auxiliary fuel tank, gauges, and a tool box.

I would STRONGLY recommend not to run the truck again until the alternator is fixed... Or at least only run it on batteries. 20VAC spikes WILL kill your ECM, PCM, VP44 controller and just about every computer on the truck... including your chip. You are looking at potentially $3000 of fixes here that won't pop up immediately... They will lurk and burn out slowly. I know because i've been down that road. Don't look for an alternator, go get one and put it on. I had 18-20V spikes and two VP44s, an ECM, and 3 Juice modules later... I figured out what was going on.

If everything on the drivetrain seems tight... might it just be some hidden mud in your wheels or a thrown weight?

I used 3rd gen (same as 2nd) lug nuts and the 4th gen hub caps. They fit fine. The caps only care about the external lug nut profile which hasn't changed even on the 4th gen nuts I have. I tried the 2nd gen center caps on the 4th gen wheels and they looked funny. The 4th gen caps are nicer in fit, finish and appearance. As for how the wheels fit fine with no mods, but as you mentioned, I have disks.

The signal is all digital from the ECM as far as I know... So you are pretty much hosed for using the feeds from the ECM outside of the original gauges, most, I believe, use aftermarket gauges or a mix of parent/donor sensors to kinda get what they want. I believe that 1997 was the last year of analog style Dodge gauge sending units/gauges.

Here is how 4th gens look with 285s. Lug nuts were different threads in mine. 4th gen nuts won't fit 2nd or 3rd gen, but a set of 2nd or 3rd gens will work with the 4th gen hub caps.

Well, Edge got fined a $500,000 initiation fee into litigation and they immediately pulled ALL their 6.7L products as well as having the burden of buying back all available (even used) chips. Smarty even has pulled their 6.7L products and I am sure got similar treatment from the EPA. Quadzilla decided not to fight it evidently, and just folded. Our older trucks are likely next on the EPA's To Do list. This sort of bully like behavior has been what those of us in industry that use diesel engines from Cat, Cummins, MTU, etc have been dealing with for years. Now, the public gets to play.

Used to be an excellent tech at Fort Collins, and they have nobody now that doesn't SUCK. Last I heard, that tech was in Grand Junction at Dodge.

How did you fix it? Buy new parts? I didn't end up getting that clip to work again... thankfully I don't use the inside door latches though.

I work in Oil & Gas. I cut my teeth on natural gas wells. There is a MASSIVE surplus of gas right now that nobody is using and Washington and the special interests don't want us selling overseas... As in, "lets not make any jobs/money for the USA now, because that would increase drilling activity and growth in non politically correct sectors." There is so much opportunity there too! Caterpillar, MAN, MTB, and Cummins all have natural gas / diesel engines. Think about running freight trains off those? Just throw a tanker of gas behind the engines and let her rip! $2.50 gas instead of $4 diesel.

I really wonder how long it will be until they ban the old trucks too... Anything not stock. Its such bullshit, they don't have the balls or will to actually go after the guys rolling coal like ________. But they go after the manufacturer of something that is actually pretty cool. But then again, the whole concept of a DPF filter and the environmental standards diesels are held to makes me nuts. I really think that we will see natural gas/diesel trucks soon. That may be our saving grace with these special interest groups, but those trucks will still be obscenely expensive. The amount of money we spend as a country on the "envirionment" is retarded. I love the outdoors as much as anybody. I hunt, fish, and grew up on a farm. Clean air and water is needed. However, the minutia we are striving toward is nothing more than the intentional destruction of our ability to get anything done. They don't want us drilling wells, felling trees, or doing anything. To enviro nuts, humans are vermin.To the prius point... It's all feel good politics! just like the gun rights issue. An assault weapons ban won't do ANYTHING to stop another Sandy Hook shooting. But dangit, it will make somebody feel like the did something.
