Latest mod to the truck
Great looking family! We usually look that happy on road trips... After my mother in law promises to not sing any more on that trip.

Screaming Beavers
Nice guys! You guys have some beautiful places to live... Love the working forest. There are many of us, who envy not only your scenery, but the freedom and attitude of your state. Colorado was once like that.**grumble on** city living... pfft! country boys like me shouldn't be stuck in the big city but its my own fault... **grumble off**

2013 Ford diesel accidentally put gas instead of diesel......
Mike, in your neck of the woods is there a rural fuel delivery company? Back on the farm we would fill up our 500+ gal gas, on road, and off road diesel tanks to hedge fuel whenever we thought we could get it "cheaper." Heck, that and an easily removable in bed tank and you would be set for almost any trip.

Can't find parts, fittings, or odd stuff? Great old school online catalog
Combination of Geno's parts and MCM parts for a great install of boost and fuel pressure. Great parts, and the 1/8 line was great. I sized it after reading through their documentation, and the extra flexible was the ticket. It didn't kink like the stuff in most of the kits. I have no experience with the Napa line. I now have a Fass, with full length 1/2 ID fuel lines with no banjos, with a fuel gauge at the pump. The only gauge that I am having issues with is the EGT. I have something wrong there, but ran out of time to fix it. Perhaps next weekend. I also need to get the green bulb filters sometime. Flared compression fittings... AWESOME and worth the five extra cents per fitting.

Back to stock injectors for a short time
So injectors meter fuel? I thought on poppet injectors they provided a pressure drop across the nozzle appropriate for the fuel volume and popped at a consistent pressure? I thought the VP44 is where the actual metering happened. I know your truck, as a common rail, meters with injectors... but help me out here.

vp44 advance
80 crank degrees is pretty decent. Do you have a timing curve for a 12 or 24V anywhere? Now if only Smarty would let me play with their UDC for 2nd gen.

vp44 advance
1 cam degree is 2 crank degrees... Unless I am thinking of it wrong.

Wild fires
Will do. I hope they all stay safe, and hopefully they can get some air support!

2013 dually wheels on a 2001?
Supposedly the lug lengths are different for aluminum vs steel wheeled pickups, making a problem of having too short a lug when putting newer Al wheels on a steel wheeled truck. Also, the 2nd gen lugs have a different thread than the newer 4th gen trucks. You will need to use 2nd gen lug nuts or convert to new lugs, which may be a pain depending on how the axles are cut. I have 4th gen Al wheels on my factory Al wheeled 02 and have had no problems, as long as I keep the OEM 2nd gen lug nuts.

Thanks Jon. I had forgotten about this, I went to radio shacks site and just ordered two.

New Vp44 is here... truck is de-tarred...
Makes sense. I never thought of it that way.

Engine Efficiency/fuel rate/etc. calc
Yes. Based off several parameters... I would imagine, in the R&D labs, based off everything from load to variable cam timing. Higher pressure through the same sized orifice effects droplet size and spray pattern. I ran into a pHd student the other day and discussed a bit. In theory, higher pressure means smaller droplet size and a faster burn of the fuel charge. However, the chamber and how the flame front progresses through the chamber is a tough thing to predict. So in the end, we tune the fuel maps for best performance since we can't totally model all the flows and transient thermodynamics & heat transfer involved in the combustion process. Slower burn is okay, especially at lower RPM and may make a more even combustion chamber temperature. However, at higher RPM things may be different. Older work... the new stuff in the next year or two should be cool. They are using an electric injector now, not the old poppet injectors. http://inside.mines.edu/~tparker/Diesel%20Spray%20Movies/ILASS%202003.pdf

Can't find parts, fittings, or odd stuff? Great old school online catalog
Will do. I've never been disappointed with the MCM stuff. I ordered it last night at 11pm or so and it shipped at 9:20 this morning too. The only downside is that there is sometimes too much info. Hopefully the tubing I selected isn't too soft. We shall see though. Link to lots of "tubing" info. http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/119/118

Ordered a fuel boss this morning
It looks pretty cool... the only thing I worry about is pulling fuel from so far away... Fluids tend to like to be pushed rather than pulled, especially in gelling weather.

Hopefully you do it yourselfers find this useful. I sure do, and figured I'd pass it on. I've used these guys for years at work. Nearly everything has a drawing, good specs, and honestly... they have everything. They even break it down by material, material properties, reactivity, etc. mcmaster.com Just last night I ordered the below items to redo my fuel pressure gauge.

1 5220K61 4 Each Easy-align Brass Compression Tube Fitting Straight Adapter For 1/8" Tube Od X 1/8 Male Pipe

2 5112K61 25 Ft. Extra-flexible Nylon Tubing .093"id, 1/8"od,.016" Wall, Semi-clear, White,25'l

3 46425K21 1 Each Easy-set Needle Valve Steel, 1/8" Nptf (dryseal) Female

4 5220K31 2 Each Easy-align Brass Compression Tube Fitting Straight Adapter For 1/8"tube Od X 1/8 Female Pipe

I couldn't find the 1/8 line or compression fittings locally, (i've been trying for weeks!) and just ordered them from MCM. They are being delivered by UPS. Want band saw blades for your DoAll bandsaw? Got them. Want hot water heaters that run off engine coolant with built in electric fans for an enclosure on your frac equipment? :ashamed:Got them. Want needle valves and 1/8 tubing? got them. Want a stupid little fitting that NOBODY else has and your local hardware guy says never existed? Done. Want some industrial tools or tool parts? got those too.
