  1. mine did this a couple times but finally released while the new parts were inroute. luckily it stopped before i drove lol
  2. yup larry b is where i got mine, took bout an hour to pull starter, replace contacts and reinstall. I got the brush replacement kit and contact replacement kit. Get both so when the brushes wear down you have them handy. while starter is out, inspect the windings, cummutator (part where brushes contact) and if it has plenty of life you are good. here is the link to what i got http://www.fostertruck.com/cummins-dodge-denso-starter-easy-rebuild-kit-94-06.html comes with a 10mm combo wrench for the bottom 2 bolts and use a 10mm 1/4" ratchet on the top bolt, loosen it but not all the way. Get under truck remove both bottom bolts, then top bolt and ensure not to drop starter on face, it hurts. (no i didnt do this) install in reverse with top bolt on by fingers from bottom, then install bottom bolts, tighten top then bottom bolts. vice grips or impact driver for the crosstip bolts hoding starter together. take yer time, clean it before dissassembly.
  3. Good evening ladies and germs. yet again the gremlins are on my truck lol. To start i have had zero issues with the vp44 since replacement of it 3-4 years ago (budget rebuilt vp, didnt have much $ at the time). I have replaced the lift pump system twice and no issues/codes since last replacement early this year. new connector tube orings last summer, no head leaks. new seal washers on return line from head, will check for leaks. So this morning i drive home zero issues. This afternoon it was about 95 outside and started the truck from cold and it started with zero issues (normal time to ignition lets say 1.5 seconds to fire) I drive appx 10 or so miles, trucks nice and hot zero issues plenty of power. I had 3 stops during this time and they are as follows. stop one bank 5 minutes. starts perfect normal power. stop 2 post office 10 minutes. starts perfect normal power. stop 3 lunch appx 1hr. it was parked slightly nose high/uphill and it experienced a longer than normal start (appx 3 seconds) and once started zero running issues normal power. I get home, truck sits in road appz 1-2deg nose down, after 15 minutes it restarts perfect. i dont move truck, but wait an hour. Long start, runs fine after. immediate shut down and restart is fine. wait another hour-hour half and had long start, runs fine plenty of power. this was at 20:00hrs got to work, let it sit and attempted restart 15 minutes later, long start. immediate shut down and restart is fine. 01:25, attempt to start with long start. immediate shut down and restart is fine. ZERO codes for past 3-4 years after VP replaced. No CURRENT codes (verified with scanner tool). All readings, eng temp/boost/batt/oil press/fuel press/boost/ are good and normal, tank half full (verified). Batteries are 3 months old and spins engine fast. I will let it sit level till end of shift and see what i get for starting result and will put up findings in this thread. However, I am noticing a small bit of fuel smell now and a small drip/small puddle, so i am leaning towards air draining the system a bit and will isolate tomorrow. I hope this is a $5 fix, if it turns out to be a bad distributor ring (worn) in the current VP, i will just save pennies and get the "as close to new" VP44 from Blue Chip Diesel so i dont have to worry bout this for a long time as i have the longevity mods in and use 2 stroke. http://www.bluechipdiesel.com/products.html BEST UPGRADED Blue Chip Rebuilt VP44 Injection Pump $2475.00 I am posting this so others can get info from this specific issue and resolution.
  4. 3 weeks and it didnt want to start? might need new batteries or check electrolyte levelsi can let my truck sit for weeks and it will start no issues
  5. what i did when i replaced my vp was put the truck in a high gear ebrake on and started turning the gear puller till drivetrain slack was taken up and once it had resistance i was able to pop it. i didnt even take the fan shroud off. and we have already verified that you cant skip a tooth on the gear but still try to be careful not to move it. you will need a second hand spotting for you to get the keyway lined up on install. (flashlight and mirror work)
  6. i just picked up a truck box yesterday from tractor supply and i quite enjoy it! i got all my junk in it!
  7. many vps come back "newly rebuilt" with old boards. only a few dealers actually ensure a new board. other than that you are taking your chances. i think you have a new reman pump with old board and need a new pump from a good dealer. places that have remans with new boards, blue chip diesel, DAP i think and others will chime in on the list.
  8. i replaced the shoes on the rear of mine, i need to tighten them up on jacks soon. but i got e-brake now not full strength yet lol
  9. you might have more availability of parts for the g56. im not sure which is stronger though. also you may investigate if the xfer case comes with it or which will fit...
  10. it would be whitish blue. fuel is black/brown. antifreeze is white and foggy. cats are bloody and make a bark sound when put through the woodchipper.
  11. i enjoy granny gear on my 5600, put in 4lo and it will walk over anything at idle.
  12. how long did the engine sit from damage to repair? a gallon and half of engine oil could be a combo of being blown out and burnt. if the turbo was stupid hot from pushing the engine hard to kill a piston it may have damaged seals and its dumping out the back of the turbo? or #6 never seated the rings well?
  13. can you do a write up on this procedure? i would like a little bit more psi assist.
  14. if you do a nv4500 ensure before install that the 5th gear mod has been done. retaining nut on the 5th gear backs off and you lose function of that gear. easy to fix with tranny out.if you get a nv5600 ensure 6th isnt cooked or burnt out. empty some fluid and check for shavings or bits.
  15. my raptor had to be adjusted once or twice a year. towards the end it wouldnt hold pressure well and no adjusting would fix it.
  16. i think yer vp took a dookie man, might want to check that out... jus sayin HAHAHAHAHHAAH
  17. im wanting to go with red head steering as well, how do you like the stronger power assist?
  18. i have a good friend with a ford f250 TD that just plants you in the seat. i mean this thing hauls the mail! bad thing is there are many problems with the engines/powerstrokes themselves that you dont hear of with other diesels. his truck looks good too
  19. ive been eyeballing mine and its been stable between 15-19 idle up to wot. i dont have 1/2" lines from filter to vp but im sure if i did and had the smaller pulley id be pushing more psi. i dont see the drops you speak of mike (?)
