I have a 99 3500 mostly stock and im not to sure what this noise is or why its this loud when i turn the key on. It seems like something with the lift pump but it stays on for awhile and is very noticable in the cab then turns off. The trucks start fine and i have a crappy electric fuel pressure gauge and when it makes that noise its at atleast 25# and then i start it and it stays right around 24-25#. I have a few videos showing the noise and the gauge but none of the noise right when i turn the key forward without bumping. It sometimes comes on for a few seconds but lately has been coming on for the full 20- 25 second cycle without bumping the starter. Can you tell me if…

Hello, I have an 01 24v 4x4. I took it on a 200 miles round trip last week. Within 10 miles of the destination I heard a noticeable loud squeal/screech intermediately at around 50 mph. I thought is could be my front pumpkin running low due to a drivers side leak, filled it up and drove home. On way home the noise was still in and out, towards the end it started to become more constant but only above 2-3rd gear. Now when I drive its is constant above 2nd gear at pretty much any speed. It sounds like it could be from the transmission but I was thinking more wheel bearing/ joint. I will jack up rear and update tomorrow. What I have done New driver/passenger side w…

I finally got a couple of days off, I got the intercooler repaired, put back in and drove the truck it would now make some boost if I would get on or pull a little grade, but not over 17 psi and egt's shoot up quick, so yesterday I put the boost leak tester back on and pressured it up to close to 30psi but it kept blowing the leak tester cap off, so I am sure it is pressuring up and if it has a leak it can not be very big, what else would cause very low boost and high egt's

I have a 99 24 valve and I took it to outlaw diesel in Indy because I wasn’t seeing the boost results I wanted they fixed a boost leak and a fuel line like but said I don’t have enough rpm to spool to the boost I want I have an aura 5000 turbo 150 injectors 4K Hamilton springs arp head studs south bend dual disc quad adrenaline banks intake and I’m sure a few more performance parts I’m forgetting but it’s only hitting 23 psi with the tuner all the way up does anyone know what’s up before I take it somewhere else

So I recently got back into messing with my truck, and I've been messing with quad. Starting logging what my truck was doing with "hot" tunes, noticed I wasn't building boost beyond 18psi. It would build up to 18, then drop to 14-15psi. I suspected boost leak, so I made a janky boost leak tester (which failed epically), and found a tiny leak on the right side boot going into the inter-cooler. My former diesel professor suggested I use a smoke machine to check for leaks, which I did, and didn't find anything. I went ahead and ordered a cheap set of silicone boots for my truck anyway. I reused my old t-clamps, and although they were a huge pita to put on, I got…

Need some help, I just put a boost gauge in the truck and I noticed it’s only making 5-10psi. The RPMs are near 2k to hit 10 psi. The turbo sounds like it’s spooling like it should, I checked for boost leaks but I couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary. I know these trucks aren’t meant to be fast but it shouldn’t be as slow as it is now.

Hello All. I am relatively new to Cummins but have owned my 99 Dodge for a couple years. It has 265,000 miles on him. Everything is stock except the previous owner installed an edge EZ and I installed boost and an electronic fuel pressure gauges. When I installed the gauge last year I installed the t-fitting to avoid the hammer effect. I have a question. Here over the past couple weeks (it has been 0-20 F here) when I start up the truck in the AM the pressure will be in the single digits for about 5 seconds and then jump up to 13 or 14 psi. Do you think this is just because the diesel is cold, or is my lift pump about to quit? It is a stock LP and I plan on changi…

I store my truck from Nov to March and this year when I took it out I noticed that the fuel pressure was dropping more the normal. I have had 2 separate times that I was letting it idle while unloading it I noticed that the idle sounded different. The last time it happened I was going back to move it and there was no lift pump pressure. I shut it down and then bumped the starter to see if the pump would run and it did with 17 pounds at a idle (18 to a dead motor). I have also noticed that the fuel pressure drops almost 2 pounds more this year under hard acceleration. Being that the pump has been on there for at least 7 years I just bought a new one ( fass ddrp 02). Change…

Hello All, I'm new to the forum, but have used this sites detailed articles quite extensively to learn more about my truck, and to troubleshoot my issues. (A quick thank you to any and all who have contributed to the site, as it is very well put together.) Having said all that, I seem to have run out of road on my own, and need to ask a question for the sake of clarity and specificity to my problem. The truck is an '01 2500 automatic with about 250,00 on the odometer. To go all the way back to my initial issue, I started getting dead pedal symptoms with a P0216 code, and fluctuating fuel pressure (sometimes 15PSI, sometimes about 7PSI depending on time of day and signi…

Heres a question for ya, on one if my duallies @ WOT the fuel pressure guage reads between 5-7 .At idle its @ 15. I dont think it should go that low. I have a FASS 95 electric fuel pump on it with 110 injectors. Im thinking maybe the 110 injectors are sucking so much fuel the FASS cant keep up? Any thoughts?

I am thinking that a Low FP Warning would be a good idea... Who offers one? My thought is to T the switch in when installing the new FP gauge. Your experiences?

Hey all, back again! lol So, I got my DAP 150's in and there seems to be yet another issue. Truck sat for a few weeks and then I got to doing the injectors and changed the oil and filter (had a lot of fuel in the oil). Put 3 gallons in, got the truck started (checked oil level before, was above operating range) and truck drove and ran great with the new injectors. Was getting about 60-70 PSI cold and once she was warm she was at about 40, but then she went to about 35-38 while cruising at 60. At the stop light, It was right above the lower limit line on the dash gauge. Got to my destination ASAP and shut her down. Looked for major leaks or anything and didn't…

Just got my rebuilt engine out of the shop it's showing low oil pressure. I bought the mechanical oil gauge and its only showing about 4-6 psi. Ive already dropped the oil pan and the pickup tube looks good. I'm starting to think its the oil bypass? Anyone have a diagram or some advice to help me troubleshoot this problem? Also truck has new oil filter and new oil pump. I read somewhere to remove the oil filter to help it prime and it seems to be squirting out a good volume of oil. Does anyone have a diagram of the oil cooler also? Thanks in advance

When the truck is cold the oil temperature is fine when it warms up it goes down to 8 psi. When I accelerate it goes up. I have a edge tuner so the gauge is correct.

I have a 24v 5.9 Cummins 1999 with the vp44 injection pump that doesn't have the power it once did. My fuel pressure is 12 at idle speed and 10 at WOT... The engine runs fine, starts very good, and no smoking of any color. It's very slow on take off, barely gets to 2,300 RPM only on a down hill it would reach as far as 2,8000... All my fuel fuel lines and fuel filters are NEW... PLEASE HELP I'M OUT OF TRICKS...???
