This is a discussion forum of the 1998.5 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins 24 Valve Turbo Diesel power train and drive line system. This includes all sub-system including wiring, fuel, oil, exhaust, air, transmission, computers and sensors.

    ok i have had a little surge in the cruise control while driving down the highway with smarty and edge...not anymore...so far..i put some aluminum foil on the wire from the alternator to the passenger battery..the wire that is black with an orange stripe...so far knock on woods..no surging.:thumbup2:

  2. First time posting but I’ve reading and gaining from this site for quite some time . Thus the title of this post. I’m really struggling with my truck and I’ve read just as much as I possibly can. My background (just so no one is afraid to through anything complicated at me) is 10 years of diagnosing and repairing medium and heavy duty trucks and now about to reach my 5th year of being a shop manager.     hello everyone i have a 2001 24v cummins and am having a lot of problems trying to figure out my dead pedal situation. It all started a couple months ago where I would get dead pedal and a surging in the rpms. I changed the APPS and set the voltage to 0.420v and my surging problem went away but now i have dead pedal A LOT! Iv checked wires and grounds. I cleaned all the grounds and changed some ends but looking at the APPS sensor wiring it looks like the PO spliced in a wire to terminal 3 and ran it straight to the pcm but also keeping the wire going to the ecm. Iv had the truck for 2 years and no trouble up until a couple months ago so I can't see that being the p…

    Here's the latest of my vent tube letting off steam... I think it is twice what it was since I purchased back in October. My cap does not dance around but I am seeing a little more steam out the cap area too. I get 2-3 drips of oil when parked? Should I be concerned? I ordered one of these to collect the drippings and to try to reduce the amount of smoke emerging from under my truck... Probably best viewed in full screen...

  6. Yesterday I noticed a few drops of something on the pavement under the engine towards the rear. After driving home I also noticed a fuel smell once I shut the truck down and got out. This morning I went out with a flashlight to inspect and didn't really see any wet spots other than on the rear of the cylinder head on the passenger side. It's a little damp there. I'm thinking maybe the banjo bolt for the return line? Looks like it might be difficult to get to, anyone know the size off hand?   7. I posted a question about my fuel gauge reading higher than normal last week. Sounds like the sending unit in the tank is bad. Today my engine temp is reading about 25* low. Pretty simple and cheap to change thermostat, in fact I have one one hand. Then probably looking at the temp sensor in the head. But now I'm becoming skeptical about these two conditions happening at roughly the same time. About a week apart. Engine operating normal it seems. Just wondering if these two conditions could be related in a weird way?

    Needing some opinions, here’s what’s up. My 2000 just rolled over 300K, everything that has ever even thought about needing to be replaced has been with oem or better parts. I’m on the original injectors, original VP44, original head gasket, and original turbo. My Tappet cover is leaking pretty bad, and aside from that leak I’ve not had any leaks other than a little weeping at the oil pan. My question is, should I just do the Tappet cover and keep going, or should I go ahead and do injectors, VP, oil pan gasket, new turbo, rebuild vacuum pump, front main seal, ect while I’ve got everything pulled apart. I am usually a “it ain’t broke” kinda guy, but at 300K I have to cons…

    would happen to know of an accurate parts house part# for the front out put shaft seal for the NP 241 DLD ? 2002 model year. mine started puking this morning on my drive into work, and most local parts house dont have a clue, and i can not locate an accurate cross reference.

  12. Does anyone know the part number for the NP241 DHD tailshaft bushing? I've been to the parts stores and the dealer but neither could help. I've seen a few versions online but I'm hoping to have the correct part delivered the first time. The reason I'm doing this is because I've replaced the seal three times. The last time I researched and researched and determined the correct one since all have slightly different shaft size ID which is weird but nonetheless... So after installing the seal I thought was best the leak was gone for a long time.     Hello everyone, i'm having trouble removing the plantertary gears on a np241dhd. All snap rings are removed and still won't come apart. Any idea's? Keep in mind the bone head that destroyed this ran it out of oil. So did the bearing get hot enough to weld itself to the shaft?

    So trans and tcase is in the truck and i got it to move this past weekend outside the shop. YAY, well right after I rebuilt it I tested operation and it worked, now after it setting awhile then finally getting put in, it works but only in one gear, I dont remember off the top of my head if it was 4x4 high or 4x4 low but definitely 4x4. Im guessing something got seized inside form it setting and me not being proactive and moving the gears ever so often to prevent this... So with it installed and fluid in it, i guess i can just keep trying to rock it back and forth and hopefully it frees up? i did see the 4x4 indicator switch sometime seizes up to so i might remove that asw…

    Full of aluminum, rear seal is leaking so I figure it could have something to do with tail shaft. I bought this trans from All State Gear in San Antonio Tx and it was not a good experience. I am willing to spend the bucks and get a really good trans build. Any suggestions?

    Hello Everyone So my truck has developed a new issue this past weekend. Heading home from the mountains I was cruising at about 75 in 5th gear. Pulled out to a pass a truck and began to accelerate. Let off for a second and the transmission began to make a clunking/knocking ticking sound. Kind of sounds like the teeth are slipping past each other or not meshing correctly. Only happens in 5th all other gears seem fine. I'm thinking I either lost some teeth on a gear or the shift fork/pins brake and its not engaging the gear all the way. Anybody experience anything similar?
