Got it pulled yesterday and hopefully will get it put in thursday. First thing you will notice is we put safety first. Got it up on blocks and jackstands and looking at it made me feel weary but after getting under it I felt good. Got a the sawzall out and cut the floor for easy access and then had to cut the crossmember out because it had been welded. After all that we pulled the bolts out of the bellhousing and then the clutch and flywheel. Two bolts in holding the clutch on gave us a problem but we finally got them out. Clutch and flywheel looked almost new and the trans had writing on it like it had been rebuilt so hopefully all is good.

I just swapped out my good non-slipping 99 4x4 47re trans and installed a brand new South Bend clutch/flywheel kit, rebuilt NV4500 trans, and changed the input shaft on my 241DLD t-case. My friend entered my VIN into the PCM so there would not be any VIN mismatch codes thrown. I swapped out my auto PCM with a 99 Dodge Cummins 5 speed PCM, connected the two outer wires from the auto trans NSS to the nv4500 reverse lights switch, ran the black/white tracer center wire up to the CSS, and then grounded the 2nd wire on the CSS to the left side under the dash where there is a common ground point. I'm still using the factory auto instrument cluster and the auto trans PCM wirin…

What are the options for achieving torque converter lock up in 1st and 2nd gear? I'm installing an exhaust brake and I'm thinking this might come in handy.

I know I need a full rebuild but can't afford it now, is it possible upgrading piece by piece? I have awful TC shudder and am thinking of just replacing the TC for now or do I need a VB and upgraded internals too? And do I need to triple disc for 450-500 HP?

Hey guys, this is my first post but I have read a lot on this forum and have found help several times here. My issue now seems to be something in the electrical system causing some weird torque converter symptoms. First off, I have a 1998.5 Dodge 2500 4x4 24 valve with 177,000 miles and a 47re that has been built with a BD Stage 3 kit along with a single disk billet converter that has roughly 22,000 miles on it. It has ran flawlessly up until about a week ago. My issue is very consistent. I can take off with normal throttle from a stop and the transmission will shift perfectly 1st through 4th gear and the torque converter will lock perfectly at around the 45 MPH mark (not…

Hey All, I would like to find a simple, inexpensive and automated way to adjust when torque converter lockup occurs. I am not interested in off the shelf transmission controllers. I have an electronics and industrial automation background. I am interested in hearing ideas that pertain to a DIY install and long term reliability, as well as ease of use for someone else driving the truck. I have 3.54 gears and 35" tires. I'm fully aware what that means for my final drive ratio, and I'm not entertaining a regear at this time. Please don't suggest obvious large mechanical changes. The truck has a lockup switch, which I generally don't use. W…

Last year I got my tranny completely rebuilt, our local tranny specialist put everything heavy duty and it never performed too good it seemed like the shifting was sluggish from 1st to 2nd and now 9000K later the tranny let go again he pulled it apart and everything was wore out he replaced everything under warranty and he mentioned that the problem was the alternator, as anybody experience something similar?

when I'm cruising with my cummins at a constant speed close to the range where my tranny should be shipping gear,my rpm goes up & down roughly 200 to 300.what controls the shifting is it a vaccum set up or electric? This does it any time I'm cruising in the range it should be shifting.I checked my fuel pressure it's roughly at 12 psi constant no fluctuation.I was thinking maybe a vaccum leak or low voltage. The rpm fluctuates more when shifting to overdrive and keeping a constant speed 45 mph, anything over 55 mph no fluctuation. It you keep a constant speed in the shiftihg range of any gear rpm fluctuates, worst when going to overdrive. If I'm pulling a load there is no sl…

My trans service isn't due for another 13,000 miles. Just doing a passive flush (drain and fill) since I have the drain plug but, when do you stop filling so you don't overfill? Need to get it to where I can drive it for warm up. Then fill to the right level. Thank you to anyone that knows

Hello I have a 47re trans question. Would like to hear from people that have automatics. Trans not down shifting when slowing down to 6 to 10 mph and then going from that speed. Trans will not be in second gear pcm shows its in second but its in third gear. if I push the gas pedal down so that the apps reads 34% it goes in to second. is this how it's suppose to work? __________________

I'm going to do my first transmission service. I bought a Goerend Trans Pan for the better drain plug, better drainage slope inside, better gasket according to other forum discussions. One problem keeps coming up is leaks and drips when done. So I'm wondering how so it won't drip when done. Should I use RTV to both sides of the gasket? One guy says he puts RTV on and then tightens the bolts only finger tight, waits an hour and then torques the bolts to spec. Wondering too about the trans temp sending gauge port on the side. Does that accept Isspro Temp sending units? Anyone ever done a Goerend Trans Pan? Thanks for any ideas/ tips

Last night i did a transmission fluid change, filters and bands. All went well with the service portion. Real wtf moment was when referring to the chiltons manual and it told me that it only takes 3 PINTS. uhm, no. The was more than just 3 pints in the pan when i dropped it. When i bought the fluid from the auto store, guy told me his computer told him 4 quarts. So i obliged and bought 4 quarts. I poured in 3 and got a reading. Ran the gear selector through all gears then put in neutral. Said it was still good. Then i took it for a test drive. Initially, it wouldn't move then a moment later i had pressure. I put in atf4+ this time. D…

Want to service my 47RE Auto Transmission and install a drain plug on the pan. B&M advertises a plug, but I have read they can/will leak. Are there any other options for a retrofit plug? If someone has done this job, what is the best location for the plug? Also, if there is Go-By article, would someone please point me to it? Thanks. Leaky

I got a leak at the transmission line coming off the transmission line right at the fitting. I am assuming it has a oring at the fitting. Can I replace just the oring or the fitting? Is thier a c clip holding it on like on some smaller cars? Or does it just unscrew and the whole line come off? Is this part of the cooler or what is this thing?

Hi folks, I am looking to tap into the tranny oil on my 98.5 47RE transmission. I am unsure where to thread in the gauge temperature probe. I would rather not be reading oil temps after it has been though the cooler and is re-entering the tranny. I was thinking it would be better to read the hot oil as it exits the tranny. No? I was under the truck today looking around for a test port plug. On the RH side I see these two plugs as shown in the photo. Am I even on the right track here? If so, which one is preferred? Thanks, Keith.

Anyone have experience with a DTT noise filter and voltage regulator? I have these two little boxes mounted on the firewall passenger side near the PCM (?). These were on there when I purchased the truck. Just curious 1) if this is what they are and 2) what do they do. :shrug:Thanks guys.
