Ok time for another question!Does anyone have a link, or information on the process of checking the waste gate as a routine thing? How do yo guys check your waste gate? Is there a step by step method? or what?It doesn't seem logical to go around prying on things, or the such. There must be away to exercise it to get it to open and close.Information will be appreciated.

I have recently noticed a drop in boost pressure. so today I put some air pressure to the waste gate and only notice maybe 1/8" travel in the actuator arm. I am worried it is stuck in a slightly open position. Can i just pull the compressor side of the turbo and not remove the entire piece?

I have been getting a 0234 code since I bought my truck (in July) and realized that the wastegate was stuck closed, and finally decided to fix it. This is supposed to be a pretty straight forward job. Pull the turbo, free the wastegate and reinstall.Mr. Murphy arrived to help me and I learned about his little law. So, I pulled the turbo and the started working on the wastegate with heat, PB Blaster, and a baby ball peen hammer. I patiently tapped heated and squirted for an hour. Then I think, call Mike Nelson for advice. So Mike advised me to remove the back plate (don't know what it's called) that what-cha-ma-call-it that hooks the turbo to the exhaust, so I can acc…

Hello all. Well I have been getting the turbo over boost code lately my wastegate is not rusted up. I tested to day with low air pressure. All I could hear was air hissing. It was coming from the actuators head. reached back and felt it. What do you guys suggest I replace with? Factory HX35 wastegate, turbo masters kit, banks big head or BD. I have no fueling boxes just stock truck with airdog 100 big line kit 5" exhaust. So blocking the wastegate would not work for me in this situation. Thanks guys,John

  5. Afternoon while replacing my head studs today to some ARPs I noticed some water in the head stud wells. It doesn't look like coolant as it's clear vs green and hardly mixed with oil. Of the 8 studs I've done two of them had this water in the hole. There is no real smell and is does have a slight viscosity but dries up like water would vs that "oily" feeling from coolant or oil. See the video of me using a clear straw to extract the liquid. I've read that our studs do not go into any water jackets, I've also read about finding condensation/some water while doing head studs but this seems a little much. The obvious answer is a head gasket but I'm not seeing any …

Water in fuel light came on when I was in town. Wating to get home till I would drain the filter. But I came to a stop sign and the truck just died. So I drained both filters. Put fresh fuel in the filters. But the light is still on, I tried to start it. Nothing

Several weeks ago I washed my engine, something I've done many times before. later the engine would spit rapidly out out the blue, water in fuel light came on, code came up for heater grid low voltage, and TPS/APPS, connection was loose on intake heater grid. Figured maybe water got in connections, so I put dielectric grease on all connectors. Happened intermittently after that and pulled the APPS/TPS code, so found a module from Freightliner , (I made the timbo wire mod previously), still get the rapid "spitting" it seems after fueling a low tank, have added Howes Fuel lubricator that's supposed to remove water. Ran it till Fuel light came on, and poured a whole bottle i…

What is the easy to get water out of the fuel tank? without removeing the tank

  9. I rebuilt by '01 24 valve truck and ran fine for a day. After driving about 5 miles to the store it started leaking on the passenger side at the oil cooler. Is there a particular trick to putting those on? Also another possibility is the AC bracket. When I put that on I didn't realize a gasket went in the block. I got that gasket and ordered the oil cooler gaskets to put in tomorrow. I'd appreciate any advice or insight on that.

I've heard conflicting information about how much vapor pressure exists inside a Cummins during normal operating temperatures. One guy said it was outrageously high while another said it can't exceed the radiator cap pressure rating. Is the pressure greater inside the engine than inside the radiator?

Took a run up to deer camp today and when I slowed down my truck sounded like a bunch of tree frogs chirping.I popped the hood but couldn't really tell where the noise was coming from. When I left a few hours later and the truck had cooled down it sounded normal. When I turned down my road it was chirping again, must just be when it heats up it chirps. After it cooled down at home I took the belt off and checked everything out. Everything seemed tight and felt good when spinning it around except the water pump.It doesn't leak nor am I loosing fluid but it has a little "wiggle" to it when moving it up or down. When you spin it doesn't have any drag or noise to it.What do you…

I replaced my water pump last year. It is leaking out of the weep hole again. The thing is when I was trying to check I didn't see anything come out of the weep hole. I could see where it had leaked out of it, there was evidence of it at the weep hole. There Is antifreeze under the pump that pooled there. But when I get the truck to temp and watch it I never saw any leak.Would the pump just leak intermittently? It just seems to me if it is going bad it would leak all the time. Is there anything else that would cause it to leak from the weep hole besides the pump goin bad?My truck is a 2002 6 speed 4x4 Thanks to anyone that can helpJason

I replaced my water pump a few months ago and ever since I have had fluctuating temps. The new pump is a bosch from pepboys and had a shroud on the impeller and the old unit did not, I also noticed the new one was harder to turn than the old one but that is to be expected. My temp used to set right around 188-194 and now driving down the interstate at 70 I get swings from 188-222 today. It would go up pretty fast and come back down to around 200-205 or so but I cant help but theink its the new pump. I may try a new radiator cap too but what does everyone think? --- Update to the previous post... The old pump worked great but I did a coolant flush and it leaked f…

  15. 99 Vp44 truck cranks slow and then quickly sounds like a very weak battery condition as far as the starter sound. It sounds like the starter is not giving enough power to turn over, then it barely starts. When it starts, it runs great(like usual). I even had someone else test my batteries and they are both new. I checked starter wiring, and it is all clean and tight. Any suggestions? Starter? it's about 3 years old. Thanks ahead of time,Will

Just finished an 8 hour drive and I'm noticing my truck is lacking power at operating temperature, used to have no issues with taking off in 2nd when I had a FASS DDRP and stock injectors but now it struggles taking off in first while at operating temps. *My fuel pressure at idle used to be around 9-10 at WOT it would drop to 0. This was when I first got the truck and knew nothing about it a few years ago now I have a FASS 150 with a sump and the gauge sits at 15psi and 14psi under WOT*. But I ran it like that for a couple of months just thinking above 0 was good enough. Fast forward to knowing what I know now, I'm pretty certain that I've damaged it and now I've got a w…

  17. I installed a set of RV275's about two months ago. follwed Mike's instructions here and the install went well except for some weeping at the head. 3 of them at first and they just progressed to all of them leaking and not weeping. Also my return tee was leaking and I put new orings in it about two weeks after the injectors. In my infinite wisdom i did not even think about the bolt on the back of the head:doh:. Dont know why I just did not. Well it was still leaking and getting worse. So I went home this week end and tore it all apart and re did everything. This time I loosened the injectors and tightened the crossover tubes first and then tightened the injectors down.It i…

Hey guys sitting here freezing, thinking about summer and truck pulling. Wondering if there are any good suggestions for a front weight ballast on the 2nd gen trucks, something that can handle 1500lbs and be removed from the truck. Thanks!

Alright, so she's back at it again. Probably my fault this time. Any who, on the way back from North Dakota a few days ago, I was outside Pueblo when I heard what I can only describe as a bearing seizing. A loud squalling like noise that shook the truck, and I felt it through the shifter. It wasn't constant. Just a quick noise, then gone. After everything that's happened, I was on red alert. Turned off my stereo, and kept driving, listening. Found an off ramp, and pulled off to see if anything had froze, was leaking, etc. Nothing. So I jumped back on i25 and headed south. She did it again. Loud quick noise. At this point I prayed nothing seized up completely before I got …
