Question: Is it to hard to install a clutch guys I need to install a new clutch on this truck I just bought and a new flywheel since I can see from the bottom its got some teeth already damage and I think I am going to need a starter gear (were can i get the starter gear from?) . I have some experience fixing small stuff but I don't know if I can handle the clutch ,I have done the vp44 on my other truck and other small stuff like maintenance tranny and differential airdog install you know small stuff . I can follow instructions very well if somebody tells me how but maybe I need more than instructions ,Is not so much that I don't want to pay somebody to do it it's just th…

Going to have to do a clutch in my '02. H.O. Putting thinking about a valair organic/organic. @ 400 hp. It is a daily driver, work truck. Only mods is an EZ box. My only future upgrades will be a set of rv275'sI'm under a time constraint here. i have a couple of questions. Do i have to resurface the flywheel? The clutch is just starting to slip under WOT now. If it looks ok with no heat cracks or deep grooves? Ive got 307,000 on the stock clutch.

Hi I just changed my hyd clutch assy thinking it had failed and that wasnt it so i pulled the trans and found the clutch was finished ,so i put in a new southbend 13125ok assy. now its hard to put into first and second and grinds going in reverse its like its not fully releasing but then it seems to shift good through the rest of the gears on the road . the trans seemed fine before i had the clutch crap out. This is on a 98.5 dodge 1 ton cummins with 110000kms 70000miles it does a lot of clutch work and short trips. any ideas? did i creat my own problem or is something else wrong. Thanks JD63

Hello everyone! I have a 2002 ram2500 with 6spd in it, I replaced the clutch and slave cylinder about 24,000 miles ago. It's hard to shift into any gear from a dead stop, it shifts fine when I'm moving. Is this signs of the clutch master cylinder going out? I have no leaks anywhere and the reservoir is full. If it is the clutch master cylinder that needs to be replaced can I just replace that and not the slave? I'm a little tight on money right now and trying to save as much as I can. Thanks for any helpP.S. I wanted to add the reason I replaced the slave cylinder, I was driving home from work one day and in the midle of shifts it would not go into any gear I was …

  6. Had the truck over in St. Louis today. While driving around, I discovered that I was having a problem shifting, especially when stopped. I had to put the truck into neutral to stop, shut off the engine to put it into second, start the engine, then go. Upshifts were not much of a problem. Downshifts were shaky, as sometimes they were ok, other times it would not downshift. I ordered new clutch master and slave cylinders from Autozone. O'Reilly's couldn't get them for 5-7 days. No NAPA here. Autozone had the slave in stock, the master cylinder will be here tomorrow. Any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks.

Howdy guys. Got a problem with the old dodge that is finally bugging me enough to do something about. I am having a hard time with the clutch letting go when it's supposed to. It's not hanging up enough to push me forward when stopped but it's making shifting a real pain. I can also feel the transmission still trying to turn when coming to a stop. Still drive able but becoming a real pain. Some facts about my clutch. It is in my 2001 ram with the NV5600. I replaced the entire hydraulics system with a high pressure system from Valair about 3 years ago. No leaks anywhere that I can see. The clutch disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, and throw out bearing were all rep…

  8. 02 3500 dually 6sp nv5600 quad cab 2wd independent suspension approx 230k miles. It has the 5.9HO. I've had this truck for about 6 years, never had any clutch issues. I don't know the full history of it so I'm assuming it may have the factory clutch. This weekend I noticed it was hard to get in gear, like the clutch was not fully disengaging. I was towing a trailer for a couple days (not really a huge trailer, 10ft enclosed single axle, not really too heavy or loaded etc, prolly 3000lbs total). Clutch issue started after I had backed in and parked / disconnected the trailer. After I pulled away, I noticed it was hard to get in gear.…

Guys I got a problem with the truck that I sold to my brother, a while back about three months ago I change the clutch on it and also replaced the master and slave cyilinder. It was my first clutch job so you guys helped alot thanks to this site , but my brother just called me and he is having problems with the truck . He seems to not been able to shift gears ,he said that the only way the truck can move is if the truck is turned off and he puts it on second gear ,but then the truck will not shift to any other gear . I cant test drive it my self cuase I am still out of town, so wanted to ask if you have any idea of what could it be ? He took it to a shop and was told it …

Does anyone have a part number or place to source the bushing for the master cylinder push rod to clutch pedal. Can't find one anywhere.

  11. Started by Greenlee,

Once again I have a odd-ball question to throw out there. My brother was visiting with us on his way back to S.C. and the 1999 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 24v 5 speed I sold him 3 years ago showed the PO216 code so he left it with me to check out and see if I could sell it for him. It's in great shape inside and out. Much better looking than the 1998 12v I occasionally drive to doctor appointments when my wife can't take me. The 12v is automatic and I have decided to sell it. I thought about buying back the 99 but the clutch pedal has to be all the way down on the floor to start it and put in gear. Is this normal distance on most manual driven Dodges? I'm wearing casts on both le…

All of a sudden, my clutch pedal stopped snapping back. I also had to go almost all the way to the floor to shift cleanly. I replaced the slave/master cylinder/reservior in a closed, pre-bled unit I bought from Rock Auto. The clutch pedal still behaves mostly the same. What's next?

Well I foresee a new clutch in the future! With 75s and a Adrenaline I doubt it will last long! When I slip it the first time any guesses how much longer it will go or is it a gamble? So I know there will prob be several different opinions but what’s the go to for clutches? I have heard a lot of good about the South Bend OFE and Con OFE. I’m not sure if I would need a 400 or 500hp rated clutch with the injectors and Qaud? When the time comes I plan to do this myself. How hard is it for someone that has never done clutch work? I would like a clutch thg will do well pulling hard and daily driving but be able to hold up to the power…

  15. I am installing new eng. and have a few questions. I am not a clutch expert but here gose. What brand of gresse should I go back with on shaft that throw out bearing slides on? It had a little but was getting dry and hard. Also shouldnt the splines that the clutch rides on have a little? You can see it had some at one time but is dry now.

I thought I would share my experience with the clutch replacement job on my truck. I just did a clutch replacement on my truck after a good service life of 297,000 miles. However, in hindsight, I know now that I should have replaced the clutch much sooner, perhaps at around 225,000 or 250,000 miles. The primary failure was the pilot bearing which I had noticed recently because at times there was difficulty getting the transmission into gear with the engine running. Eventually, the needle bearings were spit out and the shifting problem went away. However, the failed pilot bearing damaged the bearing surface area on the input shaft to the transmission. I re…

I was on my way to vist my brother today and while accelerating the clutch slipped in 5th. I realized my toe was on the clutch pedal and removed it right away and let off the throttle. Got back in the throttle(about 75%) and it slipped again. Did this 3 times in a row. Got done with my visit and took off to my daughter house. I had to drive across the mountains from Hickory nc to Johnson city Tn and never slipped the clutch once and I was trying to. The valair clutch is about 2.5 years old with about 65k on it. Anybody ever had this happen to them? It was strange,
