Is it necessary to disconnect the battery s to pull out, check, or replace a relay in the circuit box? Rick

I have a long time issue '99 CTD 4x4 with 170,000, Ive owned the truck for a long time When I turn on the ignition key to 'On',,, the truck alot of times the lift pump and "wait to start" light have a 3-4 second delay before they get power. So it will crank but not fire up unless you wait to here the lift pump turn on and the 'wait to start" light to go on. Its like a 3-4 second delay for the computer to boot up or something is the best way I can describe it. It is a electric issue not a fuel issue sence I mentioned the lift pump, dont get the wrong idea Any ideas what causes this?

What are he symptoms of a dying Vp44? Current one has 15 k on it the P.O. put it on a while ago in 2014 I think... as you know I have been having power issues but now it’s been fine lately. Not gonna be surprised if it comes back though. This was my next concern with the power issue. Is there a way to test the pump?

Hey guys I have a road trip planned tonight. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Long story short I was driving home pulled into the driveway noticed that I was leaking oil it is all over the side of my truck underneath the hood and all over the engine bay. I turned on the truck back on with the hood open to see where the leak was coming from and it looked like it was coming out of the valve cover gasket. Have you guys ever lost a gallon or so of oil from this gasket in less than a 1/4 mile? Or do I have a bigger problem? I have attached a picture below for reference The video might help. Btw the sound is totally new with this issue A018…

  5. Hi I recently purchased a 2001 3500 - 4x4 - 6 speed manual - quad cab. It has just under 98k miles on it. It has an edge tuner, banks 4" exhaust, Banks exhaust brake, pyrometer gauge and turbo boost gauge. It had a quite a bit of differed maintenance and a few needed repairs so I'm getting that all caught up first. The check engine light came on 2 weeks ago and I pulled P1693 + P1690. The truck was running but seemed a but sluggish at the time. I changed the fuel filter, which was really grungy. I cleared the codes and measured the fuel pressure which came in at just under 15 psi. I also changed the air filter. I drove…

Hello guys, I've been working on a 2000 5 speed truck for a friend that's got me scratching my head. Truck has just over 300k on it and was cutting out randomly and would shudder and he said it was worse when it was cold. Truck had no error codes, new fuel filter, both batteries and alternator are new. I drove it my Snap on scanner on it watching live data on a graph. I could see the APPS signal going whack when truck would act up. Had another VP truck at the house so "borrowed" good working TPS quick to verify that was the issue. Truck ran great with that factory style TPS with no issues. So I ordered the "commercial grade" APPS sensor from DieselAutoPower.com since they…

My alternator output is less when warm out than when cold. Now it’s putting out 14.3 on average. When it’s hot it’s more like 13.7. Is this an indication of trouble ahead?

I have an 01 Ram 2500 5.9 that the clutch was just replaced after sitting a few months, picked it up and drove 30 plus miles no problem, next day drove 20 miles and it just quit, no sputtering or anything, just shut down. Had it towed and have checked and replaced fuel filter, bleed system, getting fuel to injectors 134. Codes, (key method)P1693 and P0122. Have electronic apps, have reset, but that should not keep from starting. Cranks strong, just will not start. maybe, fuse/relay or wire loose? any suggestions. Thanks

It cranks strong, but will not start. No signs of any combustion whatsoever. Will fire off with a spray or two of ether but dies as soon as ether is burnt up. Codes: P0122, P1693, and heater grid code (can't remember the code number) Filter bowl full of fuel. Fuel filter changed about 3 weeks ago. 15 psi out of the lift pump. Swapped fuel relay. Swapped cam position sensor. Opened line out of ignition pump and have fuel when cranked. Opened line at #1 inj…

Is there a 200 degree thermostat that I can put in my 2001 24 Valve? Can you post the link to one, or a part number? The region I'm in sees temps averaging between -15 to 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Opinions are always welcome!

I have a fairly good idea of how the lockup switch works. I am curious though, if you install a switch but don't have the switch on, will the converter lock/unlock like normal? Do you have to control it 100% of the time if you install the switch? I'm not really sure I need or want to do it, these are just questions I keep asking myself every time I see a post related to it.

Today making a drive to drop off some deer meat to be packaged, my trucks alternator voltage jumped to 18v for a couple of minutes, then went back to normal. First thing I am going to check is my grounds. If they check out to be clean and good should I put in a external voltage regulator like on the 12 valves?

Ok gang... I'm going to share a few tidbit of information for advance OBDII tinkering. If you happen to have a OBDLink or ELM327 tool you should be able to tag along here. I will have to give a bit of thanks to @Me78569 for getting me started with the Bluetooth terminal on Android. Once I had that I could directly communicate with the OBDLink and pass commands to it. So starting out I passed the command... ATSP0 This basically tells the tool to communication with the detected protocol of the vehicle ours happens to be ISO 9141-2 protocol. After that I passed the command... 0100 Which happens to be PID Mode 01 with the PID 00 which tells th…

Ok I love the sound of my truck, it’s straight piped to a large tip and has an open air box with great turbo sound. But I have to say it, it’s too loud. So simple question, can I make it quieter without sacrificing flow? Looking maybe at muffler or dual mufflers or maybe some sort of attenuator. I daily drive and use this for normal stuff like going through a drive through or stopping to talk for a second with friends or other parents at my kids school. But I also use it like a work truck, towing and hauling campers, equipment, firewood, etc. Can anyone help with this dilemma?
