2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

  1. 01 ram 3500 turn lights on engine quits. remove park light fuse, no problem. when turn on park lights trailer relay energises. remove relay truck no start. heater fan not working. hit panic button on fob and horn + heater fan cycle. cleaned all grounds. Pretty sure maybe alarm is causing issues but cannot have engine run and lights on at same time?

What should have been a 15 minute maintenance job has turned into hours of frustration. Leave it to me. Putting in new suspensionmaxx end links and figured I’d replace the 22 year old sway bar bushings while I was at it. Measured my sway bar, 34mm. Ok, go to parts store, figure even they can’t mess up non critical bushings too bad. They send me home with a set. Huge gap, 5mm, called the parts store they said it’s normal. I’ve never done a feasibility study on polyurethane, but I don’t think these are right, no way they’ll torque closed. Even online all I can find are 30, 32, and sometimes 33mm bushings for these trucks. I. Really don’t think it’s an aftermarket bar. Anyo…

  4. Hey all, back again! as the title states, my truck does terribly in 2WD in dirt if it starts to slip just a bit. I got stuck briefly at a friend’s cabin trying to reverse up a very very slight incline. I get terrible axle wrap in both forward and reverse. I know obvious answers would be go into 4HI but I have an issue with my T-Case. That’s being thought upon currently on how I wanna go about replacing it. While in 4HI, it pops back into 2HI as soon as I give it any skinny pedal. I also found out the P/O put a junkyard NP241 DLD in it… almost certain my year with the 6 speed came with a DHD so I don’t even want to rebuild this one and diagnose it… whic…

  5. need a fresh link to a 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 cummins wiring diagram the one provided on here doesn't seem to be working for me. jonrrrstewart@gmail.com

I believe these are called camber wedges the upper ball joint sits in. They do appear to be eccentric. I think I remember the orientation they were in but not 100% sure. Got conflicting info on if camber is even adjustable on my truck (248 model front axle). Is there a direction to face them that is kinda standard or just do what I think they were facing before? I think one was facing gap facing 90* into truck and other side was 90* away from truck. Thanks for any help! Finally putting things back together on a full front end service.

My seat heater for the drivers seat just flashes the high light when I try to turn it on, I am sure this is telling me something. Does anyone know what it is telling me?

I’ve had a small slow leak from the Tappet cover for a long time. My plan was to wait until my VP bit the dust and do everything at once, but my VP keeps humming along and the leak has gotten much worse over the past 2 months. I’m thinking about getting the billet Tappet cover from Keating (they are local to me). The reason why is because folks seem to have a higher success rate with the billet covers, and I really don’t want to have to do this twice, especially in the winter. Mike’s write up on replacing the gasket is great, but I’m not a professional mechanic like Mike is. Am I being too paranoid, or is the extra $200 worth getting the billet cover and increasing my cha…

  10. My 01 Cummins has the worst heater output compared to the other two Dodge Cummins 4x4 pickups I had. They would roast me out of the cab and cause me to turn the temperature down. This pickup I leave on high and it's still not hot like it should be. I've always had a lack of heat and lack of cold AC with this rig. I already put a brand new heater core and evaporator core in it, new NAPA 190° t-stat, new water pump, new radiator, new radiator fan clutch, new blower motor, new hvac reastat, and heater treater blend door adapter. My EJWA says it's running at 190° at full temp while driving it. I timed the factory blend door…

  12. Has anyone converted a set of sport headlights to HID (D2S or MLED2.0) on the low/high bulb? Is there enough room in the housing? I am wondering as I would like to use the high beam bulb socket for a warning strobe light.

Arm rest is locked in vertical/up position. I’ve tried lifting, moving to R and L, and repeated normal release action, with no joy. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Have any of you guys here built custom control arms for A 2wd? I’m wanting to potentially even try to build a coil over Setup. Any pictures or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Alright guys I need a little help here. So my new to me 2001 3500 QCLB has had fairly week power steering since I bought it a few weeks ago. After reading up on some forums I decided to take out the factory power steering screen and clean it up. Everything went well until I was bleeding the system after. I had the front end off the ground with the truck off and was turning lock to lock to push air out of the lines. After about 15 times turning the wheel back and forth I decided to start the truck. As I was turning lock to lock with the truck running (front end still off the ground) I lost all my power steering. When I hit the left lock one of the times I heard a "pop" or …

  17. after doing a head gasket job on my 1999 24v cummins i started my truck back up after getting everything back together, and i noticed there was a check engine light but didn’t think much of it. once i drove it i realized i had absolutely NO power and no throttle response after 1200 rpms. if i kept the pedal all the way down it would slowly get up to 2000rpms so that my auto trans would finally shift. after getting on a back road and giving her WOT i was able to get up to speed but it was a dog. i had no problems with my VP44 before hand. also, when we had the code reader plugged in while driving it said i was only giving 40% throttle while i had it WOT. i have zero boost …

I have a hand held 2 way radio for the local logging roads and I was using it today and noticed whenever I would key the mic to talk my oil pressure gauge would drop right off and the “check gauges” alarm and light would come on. As soon as I would let off the mic the gauge would go back up to normal. Really had me confused/nervous the first couple times it happened before I put the 2 together. so what could be causing this to happen and why?

Found a tan visor from a 1500 that was in good shape finally instead of the mirror sagging. it has a light with a dimmer switch to adjust the brightness. I’ve looked in the 1500 wiring diagrams but I can seem to find where the wires should splice into for power. Wires are black and orange. I’m assuming black is ground and orange is power. does anyone else have a mirror like this is there truck or ever seen one of these?

  20. I recently bought an 02 3500. It has no body. Previous owner had a welding rig body which he took off and in doing so cut all the tail/stop/turn/reverse lighting wiring.Does anyone know where I can find rear light wiring diagram so I can figure out which wires are what so I can:banghead: wire up some new lights? Thanks!
