How would I know? It's hard to tell with 8800 gvw truck actually. When I go over the pot-holes / pavement breaks with all the road construction going on... it's hang on & hope the truck comes down in your own lane! Today, running empty on a road I do not often take... I noticed bumps that I got 2-3 jounces on...I don't go off road. Cost is a factor. Anybody have recommendations for good shocks at a reasonable price? Thanks guys,Russ

I'm running BF Goodrich All Terrain TA K02's right now and they seem to do pretty good other than having to rotate them every 2500 miles. I've heard there are better tires for these heavy Dodges like the Toyo or Yokohama but i haven't run anything else. I'll be buying 265/70-17 load range E. What are you guys using? What to stay away from? Would like to stay with a similar tread pattern.

So I picked up a Revtek 2" leveling kit last night and now I want to get some air bags so the rear doesn't sit lower than the front with a load on. What brand are you guys running? I like the look of the Firestone 2220 no drill kit. But I found a Airlift kit local that is new in the box for $300 obo. The only issue is it is an outboard kit between the frame and the tire and is a smaller bag than the Firestones, I just want the best ride possible for the least money...lol Not asking for much am I?

Hi everyone. I have a 2001 24 valve Dodge Ram 3500. Issue: Stopped for around 30 minutes and when went to start my truck, no instruments work and I get bus failure / no CCD. Truck runs fine with no issues on shifting. I do get wait to start light and several indicators light up on the cluster but stay lighted (like check engine, abs etc). ODBII Codes: P1698, P1694 and then P1698 again. Cluster Codes: 900, 920, 921, 940 and 950. Also 999 but I think that is just end of test. When I go to tranny DTC iwith ODBii scanner, I get P1687 and P1694 Other comments: Can't get to engine DTC with ODBii scanner. The scanner says it is unable to establish communica…

My Son`s 99 has a leaking brake booster.. Due to his tight budget he is looking at buying one from a local salvage. I`m just wondering what the life expectancy is for these units? Are booster failures common on 2nd gens?

On the dash you can place the a/c on max and it recirculates the air in the cab to continuously cool the same air making the cab cooler in the summer heat. Is there a recirc setting that does the same for heat in the winter? Or do we have to set it on max a/c setting which blows the hot air from the main vents? Thought it might be useful on the really cold days.

Hey Gang... I figured I would share my attempt at fixing my electric driver seat on my 1996 Dodge Ram. Now when I started the motor wouldn't even turn. So I verified the power was coming from the switch. Rock the switch one way you got power and rock it the other and power again but reversed polarity which is correct. No I grabbed a Allen socket and turned the motor a bit by had and it got loosen up. Then I can hit the switch and the motor turns for a short time binds up. (sigh) something is wrong in the gears. So after slowing ratching the motor around I was able to get the seat high enough to pull the 4 bolts in the seat bottom and just lay in the back seat are…

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere but I have looked for quite sometime and can't find the exact answer I'm looking for. I have had an intermittent "pop" when turning the steering wheel left or right. I dropped the steering column down last week to remove the dash and replace the heater core and it has since gotten worse. Before you could feel it in the wheel when it made its popping noise but now the sensation is more pronounced. I have replaced most of my steering components in the truck already and with it becoming worse after dropping the steering column I'm lead to think it must be in the column itself. Any ideas? The truck is a 01' 2500 4wd six speed manual. N…

A few weeks ago I ordered some 3.5mm headphone jacks to try and wire up an AUX input into my radio. I did see a write-up on here for the Infinity system, but not the cd/cassette Chrysler radio with the number p04704383ah on the top. Finally got the parts in today to start in on this. Spent a bit of time looking and didn't find anything in regards to this radio. You will need - Radio - Headphone jack with internal Switch - Soldering iron - Heat Shrink - 5 pieces of wire (3x6") (2x3") - Phillips Screw Driver - Multimeter - SuperGlue - Needle Nose - Small Flat head screw driver The headphone jacks I ordered have a left / Right / Ground / and a 2 pole s…

Will be putting new headlamp assemblies in.I sort of had my heart set on putting sports in. 4 headlamps HAVE to be better than two. (no I am not doing the projector bs etc. I would consider "crystal clear" etc stock replacements)I noticed there are far more choices for single bulb solutions. In the back of my mind I remember a couple people mentioning that the 2 bulbs in the housing didn't provide good reflective backs etc.I have ZERO concerns about new wiring. (either way, I will be going to control relays) The price difference (quad vs dual) is not significant enough to make the difference.Which will give me better lighting without UNINTENTIONALLY blinding others.…

My passenger front brake is dragging pretty good when I spin the wheel vs the drivers side, the front end is in the air right now for some other work so I have not been driving the truck in some time. Brake fluid is pretty new from the previous owner (owned for about 4 months now) as he had to replace the caliper and rotor on the pass front brake because the rotor basically disintegrated while he owned it. This was discovered the day before I purchased the truck, the rotor, pads, and caliper all look brand new and have enough miles on them that the pads should be seated at this stage. When I am able to drive the rig I can smell the brakes after driving for a bit and a mix…

Does anyone have a way to make a switch to not be able to start the truck? It would meed to disable the VP and the starter, because the truck can be bump started. It needs to be put on a switch in the cab, that way it is easy to operate for the owner, and not the thief. Stodg

Short Summary: Bought the truck a month ago for a good deal (2001 24v w/ NV5600, shortbed.) My 1st diesel. Problems started with. AIRBAG light, reverse lights always on, cruise light on, leak from xfer case and also one on the motor. At this moment I am left with a leak on transfer case and cruise light as of yet. New servo, brake light switch, ran the middle wire to clutch pedal, clockspring and checked cruise buttons for function. Also found no substantial power from pin 6 that crosses through the brake switch to the servo. No go, called dealer after noticing too many flags of a hack job conversion. SO pump, hacked wiring harness and …

Hey guys, Ive got a question about my 01 dodge concerning my heater. I live in Big Piney Wyoming (Icebox of the nation) no kidding, we have the coldest on average temps anywhere in the US. We see sub sub zero temps here and while traveling for work as a pipeliner I get into N. Dakota as well. My 01 is probably like everyone elses, it does not like to warm up in these extreme conditions. Everything works fine, thermostat, blend door, core ect. and I also use a winter front. Have any of you used a 12v heater or another alternative to help you stay warm in your 2nd gen? Any ideas. My heated seats help lol but while my backside is warm my hands are freezing lol. I cant drive …

I need to replace the speakers in my truck (99 quad cab) and just finished reading the material available on here. I don't know much about car audio, but I've done a bit of reading tonight and I am looking for some help on ordering new speakers. My truck must have (or at some point) had the infinity system. It has an aftermarket Kenwood CD deck and from when I put my mirrors on, I could see that the speakers on the back had that crescent shaped amplifier, which I understand is evidence of the infinity system. Are there any specific speakers that fit nicely and aren't super expensive? My understanding is 6x9s in the front and 5 1/4s in the back. Should I k…

My box has been seaping for a while as in wet nut, maybe a drop on the ground after being parked. Imagine my surprise stepping out of the Jiffy mart to see a puddle. Couldn't be mine right, after all it has only been seaping. Checked after the next stop and sure enough the same puddle. I had someone turn the wheel to the left as I was watching and it looked like a cow pissing on a flat rock. I have been thinking about a Bluetop from looking at referrals here, but the website says "Out of stock". I already pulled the old seal and will install the new one when I get home early enough. I am hoping it will seal, and stay sealed long enough to get a Bluetop…

The steering gear on my 96' 2500 4x4 has a lot of play in it and leaks quite a bit. The steering shaft has a decent amount of lateral play so it either needs to be rebuilt or replaced. The biggest issue with rebuilding it is finding a kit that has bearings/bushings and not just seals.
