I recently got a scangauge and it shows 0.00 gph when idling or on fast idle. Is this normal or is there a setting to change? I can't see how it can be accurate on mpg if it doesn't record idling time.

So in building my truck (getting to building firewall and floor) I'm interested in how much room is needed for the shifter tower (and TC shifter) and gap between the trans and tunnel? Should I place the tunnel flush with the trans as it sits w/o the shifter tower bolted on/ just above the TC shifter bracket top?

  3. I had a garage install a new condenser several years ago, pretty well broke the bank & the dash plastics have never fitted just right since then. I've recharged the AC just to get by. The AC / heater is stuck on defrost (the default mode) so the vacume vent control is out. I haven't been able to test the vacume yet. (My ability to accomplish anything is pretty dinimished by my disability.) So now I'm smelling antifreeze. Might as well make it worthwhile pulling the dash.I just the Cirus back from the shop today. Brakes all around (discs, pads, drums, shoes, a rubber line), and hopefully sealed the rear tires to the rims. I might just sign my check & hand…

  4. Hi all, I replaced my intermediate steering shaft about 2000 miles ago because it had a lot of play in the upper joint (rag joint I believe) and it did not slide freely. I replaced it with a OEM Doorman one from Rock Auto. Anyway, it has already developed the same amount of play after 2000 miles as the original had after 250k miles. I will not pay $270 for a stupid Borgsen shaft because thats just crazy. So, I was thinking about ways to make this thing better and I came up with drilling out the rivets and replacing them with bolts so that I can actually tighten up that joint. What are your thoughts? Good idea or bad? Will it be a safety issue? Better…

Just curious to see what your diesel looks like. Here is what I get around quad cities Iowa, most of it is labeled 5-20% bio. It sure looks like gasoline to me, but then again I don't stare at it every time I fill up. Is this normal looking or

Hey guys, On our trucks (01 specifically), how does a chassis ground return to the battery.? Lets I add a set of aux lights, or anything really, and I ground the piece to the frame or body. I know there are the two battery to body grounds on the drivers battery, and one (if I remember right) on the passenger battery. Are there larger ones from block to the body or frame somewhere? The reason I am asking is I am curious if you add something that has a little bit higher of an amperage draw (grounded to the frame) if there is enough ground going only through those body to battery (smallish) ground wires. Thanks John

I got creative. I figured out a spot for my LG G4 cell phone. This happens to be a multifunction device being it's my MP3 player, cellphone, and my Quadzilla display. I've been laying it on my console most of the time. I got tried of that, dog laying across it, sliding off on the floor, trying to answer the phone, etc. Being the phone is jacked into the stereo I can listen to my MP3's through the stereo and if a call comes I can answer the phone call and its completely hands free (still legal). So I found a piece of scrap aluminum sign and start cutting, bending, notching, etc... This is what I came up with... It sits right in my ashtray. …

Pulled the hood, both front fenders, front bumper, 4 doors and it still runs! There is a lot of stuff to un/do to pull those fenders!! The drivers side is the hardest to keep all the other stuff still hooked up. Sure wish someone would let me know if I can put all this into a Gas 2001 Dodge 2500 3/4 ton 4x4 as I am coming to a stoping point now as to fixing this one or doing the swap. I can still cut the top and replace it but all the other body stuff needs to be replaced (hood, both front fenders and bed) including the 2 front doors. I saved all the door parts including the electrical and trim. Come on guys chime in here a little and help me out? Mark

I like so many of us go through alternators. I was doing some research as to stop this problem and ran across a rectifier with Avalanche diodes. What little I can find about them is that is what the newer cars are using. From what I have found these will clamp the voltage spike caused by large current things like when the grid heaters turn off. What I have not found was the specs for the voltage that they clamp to or if they will help with the ripple that causes our problems. This is call out to anybody out there with more knowledge then me or better search results if these would be a good choice.

So I did a 50-50 mix with zerex the green, if it matters. Anyway the lowest I got was -22. How do you folks protect your eng. in negative weather like that?

My 99 has the typical power steering growl. I had a 98.5 that did the same thing and I swapped the fluid with ATF+4. I wanted your opinion on it and if there was an easier way to fluid swap. I vacuumed the fluid from the reservoir, filled with ATF, ran it, then repeated the process until I thought I had mostly new fluid. Ran it for a couple of years with no problem and was noise free. Thanks for amy input.

  15. I have a 2001 ram 2500 sport edition that's currently red. I've been considering having it repainted due to the clear coat peeling on the hood and roof. I like the look of the red color but I absolutely love the forest green color. I also intend on bed lining the bottom part to prevent rock chips and I'm trying to find some pictures of the 2 colors with a black bed liner and cannot find any. This is my truck color right now and i'm leaning more towards the green sport look. Does anybody have any pictures of what i'm looking for or have any thoughts? I don't want to be a cop magnet but I want to have a nice looking truck, I'm just not sure how the bed liner …

I am completely disgusted with the interior in my 96’ Ram 2500 as everything is just falling apart. I still don’t have a top dash, the kick panel under the steering column broke and fell off, the bezel that goes around the steering column cracked and fell off, the glove box door hinges broke, the overhead pushbutton lights broke, the hand holds on the door panels are cracked, and the HVAC control unit is cracked. Did I manage to get the truck with the single worst interior on the planet? I’m about ready to gut this garbage out and start from scratch.

  18. Hi! I purchased a used replacement steering wheel from ebay. To my surprise when I opened it.. it has radio controls. My current wheel doesn't. I've researched a little bit but haven't found anything actually showing a conversion. Can it be done? I read that a new clock spring is needed? That I need to check under dash panel to see what type of CTM the harness is plugged into.. etc. And that I need an Infinity head unit. My truck has an aftermarket head unit but I have the factory unit out in the garage want to put it back in.. not sure if it's Infinity though. Is it more trouble than it's worth? If so... can I use this steering wheel anyway without going through…

I use my truck primarily for hauling the rv and short runs to town. Anyway it's not often enough to keep the batteries fully charged. Where would you hook up a switch to stop the battery discharge when the truck is stored?TIA

So I was backing my trailer into a super tight spot on a job and got distracted and kissed my mirror on a fence post breaking the mirror glass. Right now I have on after market mirrors (EFXMRDOD98HET) as you can see here: https://www.carid.com/replace/pro-efx-driver-and-passenger-side-power-towing-mirrors-mpn-efxmrdod98het.html I haven't been able to source replacement glass for them, and I am also unable to source just the passenger side mirror with the options I have on (heated, power, with the clearance light). So right now my options are by another full set for $475 or by a different OEM replacement for $370. The guy at the parts store said its for a 20…
