2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

  1. My 99 ram 3500 2wd dually with ifs is wearing front tires. 3 months ago I had new tires installed and the truck aligned and they are wearing again. I spoke with the tire shop who also did the alignment and they suggested a camber correction kit. I was given a moog part number k80108 this looks like for the solid front suspension. Can anyone verify or explain how it works? I’m familiar with front suspension and understand alignment terms, but have seen no directions on this. Any help is appreciated.

I am installing a set of gauges (EGT, Boost, Transmission Temp) and am not real sure where to hook to boost gauge in to the engine. Pictures or a video would be helpful if there are any available.I am getting ready to drill and tap the exhaust manifold for the EGT gauge tomorrow, so if anyone has a picture of where you drilled your hole in the manifold that would be great too.Thanks...

  4. On the way to work this evening, I made a right turn onto a main street and after I completed the turn the steering wheel locked in a right turn. Luckily I got the truck stopped before I hit the new car that was parked on the curb! Once I got stopped I noticed that one of my keys on my keyring had swung into position to become jammed in the back of the steering wheel. There are two holes back there for the mounting hardware for the airbag; which just happened to catch the key! I think I am going to remove all other keys from my truck keys until I can figure out a fix for this. I seem to remember 1993 Dodge Dakotas had a recall for this and issued a fix which consisted of …

I am going to change my rotors, pads and calipers. You guys have any experience with those pump up brake bleeder systems? One person tool, plus I can flush the lines out with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My AC was out... I was assuming the evap core had cracked again. I took it by a new mechanic to check it out which he did while I waited... about an hour. He seems interest in discovering the problem & just fixing that, than replacing a bunch of parts. He discovered there was still some freon in it... he tried to get dye into it... I think he went back & forth 3 times... in the end he succeeded in recharging it. He thiinks that the filter was not replaced on the previous repair... perhaps it was plugged & he dislodged it. Anyrate I now have cold, although still stuck on the defrost mode (vacume control problem, that we knew). So the charges were $…

After a full charge, disconnected, and standing over night at about 55 deg., what should a battery hold it's voltage at? How low is too low?

I have an issue that appears mostly when cold but it is getting more frequent. If I hit the brakes even halfway fast the pedal will kickback at me and then go down. In really cold weather I can feel this action in the steering also which leads me to believe it may have something to do with the pump. I bought this truck a couple of years ago and the brakes have always had a lag on releasing. The light will stay on for a couple of seconds after releasing the pedal so I just wanted to get some opinions. I have the usual wander on the highway and I figure I am going to have to replace the box at some point but I do not think this is part of that issue. This is a TWO wheel dri…

Hey all, back with more problems. So, got most of the friend end rebuilt at a shop and got a red head installed. The popping noise when turning went away for a day or two and then was back. Truck was down for awhile for fuel in oil and I brought it back to the shop under warranty. They replace the redhead because it was also leaking when turning. They then told me it was still popping after the replacement and they think it was the frame being cracked in that area. They welded it and I bit the bullet on that price tag. Drive the truck back with no popping when turning and the next day its back again... I don't think it was the frame causing the noise. It was c…

  11. So, I decided to build a relay harness for my headlights. I've heard people have had good luck with getting more light output so i decided to give it a go. With the harness installed, only the driver headlight works. It looks much brighter, but one light wont cut it! LOL. High and low beam have the same result. The high beam indicator is on with the high beams but goes off with the lows, like its supposed to. I used the Low+ and Common from one side on the relay for the low beams, then I used the High+ and Common from the other side to trigger the Highbeam relay. The reason I used the common from the OEM harness is these headlighs are 99% of the time ground switc…

Hello! I have purchased the normal chrome and black Cummins C grill emblem stick in before. Whenever I purchased it I figured I wouldn’t ever replace it again so I didn’t get the metal, bolt on emblem. Does anyone have a link to where I can purchase the bolt on style Cummins grill badge? I am really looking for a reusable badge now since I wasted my money once already.

I know the topic of window tint has been talked about alot on the internet, but I'm wondering..can you buy an actual window for the 2nd gen (driver and pass door) that comes from factory with a darker tint, like a 40 % or darker? I know alot of places are cracking down on aftermarket tint but if it's a factory job they don't say anything here.

  16. Issue: The rear brakes on my 96' Ram 2500 4x4 will lock up when coming to a fairly hard stop and overall braking performance is poor. Details: The brake pedal will slowly sink to the floor when held down. I replaced the master cylinder last year and everything was working fine up until the rear brakes started locking up. Once they started locking up I noticed the pedal would slowly sink when held down. There are no leaks anywhere and the reservoir stays full. The rear brakes are properly adjusted, the shoes are not worn or contaminated with oil (no seal leaks), and the drums are smooth with minimal wear. The front brake pads and rotors are…

I come back to this every so often and I've never found an answer online. I think @Mopar1973Man will probably know off the top of his head, though! I have a 2001 SLT that did not come with the steering wheel audio controls. I really want them. I know I'd need to buy a wheel with the buttons, that's doable. I'm sure I'd need a different clock spring, that's simple. But I don't know if the existing harness would support the extra input signals? I've had my stereo out several times (and have installed several different stereos over the years) and I don't think I've ever seen an extra plug for the controls, which is why I'm thinking my existing harness…

http://articles.mopar1973man.com/general-cummins/35-exterior/76-backup-lights So I was reading this article and was thinking of doing it. I had a few questions. First what did you put the light in? A tractor pod? How does it attach to the axle, and do they sell the holder at napa. Second set of questions is how did you wire in the switch? It was a bit confusing. Thanks --- Update to the previous post... I knew I should of reread it... I see to get the override switch to work you just bridge the reverse switch. so my next question is where is that?

  19. Went to work this morning and all was fine. Started it up to come home and the ABS and Brake warning lights in the dash came on while it was just sitting there idling. Tried restarting it and they self check and go out but come back on after a few seconds of idling and this is without even moving. No related codes present other than P1687 No MIC BUS Message No CCD/J1850 messages received from the MechanicalInstrument Cluster (MIC) module. But all my gauges work I think this one came about when I installed my fuel pres gauge a few weeks ago when I pulled the dash cluster back. Any ideas? This is on my 02.

Well After several weekends I FINELY got these suckers hooked up! Been waiting on time and parts. So I got 2 of the 100 watt spots and mounted them to the axle with 2 pipe bands each. Took a while to find out what wires went where in this mess that some one made for me. There are wires coming and going everywhere! Put the relay on the inside of the frame after I did a waterproof job with some tape and got it up out of the way. Next I ran my switched power and a ground to the lights. I ran a ground just to play it safe and have a ton of wire on hand. Ran the wires in that plastic wire covering, through the frame rails and down to the axle. …
