http://dodgeram.info/2001/towing-charts.html This chart is saying max payload for my 01 long bed 2500 is right around 3,000lbs. I don't have time to drive an hour to steal my buddies dump trailer and was just going to put 2 tons of stone in the back of my truck. I'm debating just putting 1 ton in the back to be safe, since having my rear end rebuilt not too long ago. Any input? When I first got the truck I had 2 tons of stone dust in the back no issues, but that was pre rebuild. Gravel pit is less than 10 miles from my house.

  2. So this problem has slowly been getting worse, Little run down, beginning of all this. so every time ya go to turn, it makes a squeaking noise, left or right doesn't matter. As time went on, it got a little worse, then when you started turning left, ( still makes the squeaking noise) the steering wheel would tight up, not alot but enough to notice in the wheel and got really annoying, it wouldnt tighten up turning right, normal as could be. Well now it's getting bad, if you go to turn left, it'll pop out of drive into neutral, go to turn right it, it wants to pop out of drive and has, also the gear indicator has been funky, When you go to put into park, the in…

I walk to my truck the other day and found that one of my rear leafs on the was missing a 4 inch piece out of it. I am looking for opinions on which way to go. Rock auto as new one anywhere from 150-250 a side, the local spring shop said that they would replace the broken spring and the same spring on the other side along with re curving them for 600. Or I could have local shop, deaver, or atlas spring build me a set that would get rid of the factory block which would cost me around 1200-1500. I would like to know as anyone run leaf that have got rid of the factory leafs and put in after market leafs. Along with when you replaced the leafs did you notice any difference in…

  4. First I have to say MoparMan rocks. Has saved me hundreds if not thousands over the years! I'm looking for suggestions on the hard lines from the ABS controller and aluminum block that run to frame mounted blocks. It appears that Dodge went with a hybrid of standard and metric on the lines. Wanted to se what y'all have done when they rust out. I was blessed that failure occurred on the ranch and not on the road. Is there pre-bent lines available or has anyone used stainless braided for this application. Thanks for any input.

  6. Everything was working fine. The blower motor has only run on high for a year or so. My blower motor started making a funny noise like the squirrel cage was rubbing against something. So I pull the blower and disconnect the electrical plug and pull the resistor also while I am down there. The resistor just need a spot soldered back which I did. The blower motor has like a rats nest of insulation in the squirrel cage. I did reach up thru the blower housing and feel around to see if there was any other junk up in there and there wasn't. I put everything back together and the blower motor blows on all speeds now and the noise in the blower motor is gone everything is great …

Went out this morning to go eat and as soon as I backed out of the driveway, brakes started going away. Pulled back in and fluid was gushing out of the frame near the front of the fuel tank. Huge rust out in the hard line. Tried looking up this part in the lookup tool but couldn’t get it to work. Anyway, besides going to the Dodge dealer, what is the best way to replace this line? It attaches to the front distribution block just up under the master cylinder, the ties in to another block on the axle with a rubber line. Need to find a shop I guess with some long solid lines. 3/16” I think.

Hi All, How Screwed am I? So the P.O. coated the front bumper and rear bumper with bed liner, and oh Yea he coated the grill as well. He thought that it looked great. I bought the truck knowing that they bolt on. That said I came home with Stock Front and Rear Bumpers for $200. I was cleaning the front bumper prior to installation when I noticed that the lower front cut out was full rectangular. My bumper has a round hole for the Fog lights. So Crap now what? Also I have seen ads for year conversion bumper brackets (Gen 3 for Gen 2 trucks?), has anyone put a later bumper on? Yes it is 3D, with texture. The good news is that you don't sl…

So I just got in the truck to leave work and noticed that my turn signals are not functioning. My windshield wipers will turn on with the multi-function switch, and my hazards work. No turn signal indicator is lighting up on the dash no audible click from the blinker. Any ideas? What to check first? Well I found the cause of the problem. The compression fitting on the back of my fuel pressure gauge was leaking. Ran down the line into the interior fuse panel. Fantastic. Closed the needle valve to prevent it leaking any more for now.

Hey all, I need to solder the end on my alternator cable to get a better connection. The one on the large cable that connects to the stud on the back of the alt. I replaced it in the past and did a really rough crimp and solder job with pliers and a torch. I've learned some things since and want to re solder it to get a better connection. I got a 150/240 watt soldering gun with a pretty hefty tip to use. My question is, should I use rosin core or acid core, or does it not matter? I know you cant use acid core on electronics, but I'm not sure if it matters on something bigger like this...any suggestions? When is it ok to use acid core and when is it good to use rosin?…

Hey guys, It's been close to 25 years since I've done any 'at home' body work. I was wondering if anyone has replaced their cab corners.. and found a good product to use, or one to stay away from? Several choices on ebay, about 35 to 50 bucks a corner. I'm going to replace the corners, get it waterproof again, and then box line the whole cab from the lower body line down.. Thinking dark grey on the maroon should look pretty good? Now that the box is off, changing up the corners will be lots easier!

I have recently replaced my front brake pads. Someone let them go a bit to long and the right front got all the way thru the pad. Well anyway got some new pads and replaced them last week. I did notice some odd things, The first not so odd is the brakes pulled to the left as the pad wore thru to metal on the right side. I swapped in all the new pads and some spare rotors I had onto the truck. The left pads had worn uneven as in a wedge shape. One end was maybe 3/32 s fatter than the other and the same on the opposing pad. I have never had a set pads wear like that. After I had everything installed I took for a test spin. The pedal took a few applications to get a good re…

So I had this show up at work the other day, apparently there is now a tool for removing the hubs on our trucks if you don't feel like sacrificing an extension.

Can anyone tell me the length from bolt to bolt of a DT or DOR track bar on a stock to 3” height. I have the DT bracket and am going to make a bar for it but want a ball park measurement before I install the bracket.

  15. Last night i drove to pick up dinner and my head lights worked fine. Picked up dinner and got back in my truck, and turned on my lights and got nothing.. Well, only fogs and running lights.. I visually checked fuses in the parking lot and all seemed good. At first i had no high beam shutter sound but i played with the connector and i got that back, but still no ignition of the bulbs. I can hear a relay clicking going from running lights to head lights, i just dont know which relay it is. Bit of history, i did have to replace the battery lead fuse and holder because the original one melted. I dont know why. I never lost my hids until i lost the fuse and it didn…

Do like the OEM alloy wheels .... but, one of mine has a small hairline crack on the inboard rim area. Small, it loses 3-4 lbs. pressure per month. The specs for these alloy OEM's don't list the weight. Maybe this shouldn't be a factor since I'm running 285's ..... but, curiosity killed the cat. Anyone know the weight of a bare OEM alloy 8 x 16" .... ? Want to replace these rims with 'classic' style/type alloys .....

  17. Im purchasing Carli starter kit for my 01, I have 33" tires and from my understanding i need control arms that are 1/2" extended to push the axle forward back under the truck. Carli's control arms are $700 that seems outrageous to me. Just wondering what you all suggest for control arms, i still want good quality just wondering if there are cheaper options. And is 1/2" the correct added length im looking for? Thanks yall

Earlier this evening I was called out to pull out a couple of stuck vehicles. Including a car and a chevy 1500 HD (not that it pertains to my issue). When I threw the lever for 4 low I realized after I climbed in the hole that the light never came on and the truck wouldn't engage the front wheels. After checking under the truck I found the two vacuum hoses that control the diaphragm locking mechanism had pulled out. I shoved them back in their original place and eventually pulled both vehicles free after dropping the hammer in 3rd gear. My question is, does this happen often? Is there a good fix besides just repairing the hose connections? Is there a better product I…
