My free time just got shorter and much less. 2012 Ram 6.7L needs an injector replaced and the 0ther 5 installed again. Waiting on a box from DAP. Then I've got a 2nd Gen that needs an oil change, fluids checked, exhaust brake looked at (sticking), and valve lash adjusted. Then in between all this, I've got a 1992 Dodge Ram 5.9L to do a fresh set of injectors (5 x 0.011) +30 HP. Waiting for a box from DAP. Free time just disappeared...

Just a quick note that AmazonBasics now has a possible Rotella T6 killer. It's a 5w-40 CK-4 synthetic. A few testing sites (some professional, some not) have all found the new AmazonBasics oil to be of high quality. I still have a good stock of T6 but after I've used that, maybe it's worth a try.

I learned something new the hard way the other day. I have a lawn tractor that is wired to have the headlights on all the time.. no switch. I went to the local alternator shop and bought a pair of 1156 LED direct replacements to put in figuring they would not get so hot and to help the charging system out. Put them in, started the tractor and nice bright lights. Took my tools to the bench and came back to darkness and the unmistakable stench of burnt electrics. Smoked the new LED's within a few seconds. I took them back and explained what happened to the old fellow there and he went on to explain that on a small engine charging system lights are run off the AC side and ba…

I made a huge noob mistake yesterday. I went to look at a friends 2012 Focus that was initially a coolant leak but had turned into a no crank issue as well. I verified the relay was good then checked the starter. I noticed the nut that retains the power wire was missing, held it down and car started. I thought lets just remove the nut from the other post so we can find a matching one. I grab my ratchet, reach up to the post, stop and think "I should disconnect the battery...no, I'll be fine" . I proceed to loosen the nut only to have the wrench flop over, connecting the power, the wrench and my wedding ring to a ground. After the fireworks, I realize my wedding ri…

For a few years now I have had a woodworking business on the side as a hobby/extra income. I do a lot of wood turning, mainly bowls, as well as custom furniture. I use only traditional joinery techniques with no metal fasteners. If you've ever watched Roy Underhill on the Wood Wright's shop, that's what I'm going for. I started looking for a new niche side hustle that both myself and my wife can do. My brother has a pretty successful CNC routing side business that he does pretty well with. I was looking for something similar but didn't want to step on his toes, so I bought a CNC Fiber Laser. It's a 20w Chinese special . To buy something similar made i…

Hand splitting gets old. Don't have much in the budget for a new hydraulic splitter. So I've been eyeing a small kinetic splitter. Ima bit loyal to DR so i was thinking about getting their model. For a small kinetic and electric splitter it looks impressive. What's everyone think about the kinetic splitters? I'm only splitting for myself also and its mainly birch sometimes some pine.

I got a phone call bright and early this morning from the Chevron down in Riggins, ID (Steve Crump). He explained that the ambulance crew last night had a double back to back to run. When the crew got back to Riggins, ID they always load with fuel and restock. At 1am things can get a bit foggy and confused. The driver loaded the nearly empty ambulance with gasoline. It's a 6.0L Ford Power Stroke Diesel. They left the ambulance at the fuel pump for the night. Told Steve that I'd be down in about an hour. I got myself together and hauled for Riggins, ID. The ambulance was still at the fuel pump. I pulled up and unrolled my new tow strap. Hitched up and towed the ambulance f…

To celebrate not owing thousands of dollars in taxes this year, the wife let me use some of the money I had saved to get a new tool box. It has electrical outlets and a drawer for charging power tools. Apparently I have to ground both halves of this thing. I have already purchased the required wire and the instructions tell me where to attach to the tool box. I need to know where to attach the other ends of the wires. I have seen people run ground wires to the screws holding the outlet trim plates on before. Is that safe to do or should I run the wires into the outlet and to the ground wire in the wall?

I dont own a few of them but this one is my favorite. My Model 94 that I dont own lol Canadian bicentennial. I sold it at one point to a friend then I missed it so much I had to buy it back for more than he gave me. I have been looking to upgrade from my elk / deer mossberg .270 which has been an awesome field rifle. I think I have less than $400 into it and it is reliably within 1" at 100 yards year after year without doing much of anything to it. But I am jones'en for a new Henry long ranger in .308 to take over for the .270. Just because I want to feel like john wayne when I hunt. My thinking is the elk and deer…

Hey folks. I have a brother in law that's fallen on some hard times. He lives in the Laramie area and is a rancher by trade. He's currently working for an operation thats done by the end of the month. Along with his job goes the housing for he and his wife and 7 kids. He's trying the regular venues to find work with no luck. I thought I'd reach out to this forum since so many members are out that way. Some times word of mouth is the best advertiser. He's native to the Elk Mountain area and would like to stay west of the Mississippi if possible. He's a decent mechanic and can perform most all duties related to the farm/ranch setting. If anybody knows of any work for this g…

@int3man Continuing the power system stuff here. As for the power system, I've got an irrigation dam 1/3 mile back on the mountain with a drop of about 240 feet. This gives about 116 to 118 PSI of water pressure on a 1-inch line. The Pelton wheel was custom made by an older gent in Southern Idaho. I'm sure he's long gone now. The generator is an older permanent magnet train generator. The well is an electric pump on a 220 VAC system off the step up transformer and the inverter. The inverter is an older Trace Inverter 4,000 Watts at 120VAC. The water from the Pelton wheel is routed to a pond in the back yard for fire suppres…

Well My Son bought a Duramax. I tired to warn him to no avail. Here we are trying to teach him some sense. He's the one, well you can figure it out!! I'm not saying that he is not mechanically inclined but I bought him a Pet Rock for Xmas one year and he broke it. I will admit that now he is older and learning what repair bills cost and how to fix things, Dad has gotten a lot smarter over the years.
