Fire Call
Not quote sure which method this year as of yet... Actually mopping up 2 fires now. Funny... I thought I was going to have the day off and my Fire Chief called me to drive the tender again. So I packed up this morning and hauled back out to the fire line again. I know I'll be free tomorrow. The big 4,000 gallon tender isn't requested and only need the smaller 1,200 tender so my buddy Kelly and Chad are going to run tomorrow and I ge the day off. So here I'm posting again at midnight...

2001.5 Emergency Brake Article
You might replace them once in every 10-20 years. I keep mine setup to the truck won't roll with the parking brake set. So as for driving around with the parking brake set never happens with me. So my parking brake shoe life is really good.

Bd rad box
Torque Management hold till about 20-25 MPH before releasing and then the full power comes on. So if you think you have power then you'll be surprised of the power after a Rad Box. But there is a down side to it if you use a Rad Box then the instrument cluster is canceled out and doesn't function correctly.

Update...I just the phone call from the Chief telling me we are going out today sometime just not sure when as of yet. But we are on the list to go for sure. I guess right now USFS is still organizing, planing, and laying out camp and such so things are a bit up in the air as of yet. But I've called Kelly and got him packing and restocking as well.I'll remember now to pack my cameras. :banghead:

... Use anti-seize and that problem won't happen and they are just small little 8mm head bolts so they shouldn't be very tight at all.

Here you go at least the specs for our trucks. Hex0rz is most likely way over when you notice the huge loss of capacity to Automatic transmission. Another reason manual transmission is the only way to go for towing heavy loads.

Fire Call
Strange but true. The lightning strike hit exactly in the middle of a wind blow patch of trees that were half blown over and up-rooted so one day was spent with sawyers running around dropping snags and building line around it. Then the second crew came in late that evening. So the second day they started pumping water on it and sectioning off the plot and digging up hot spots. They are still up there baby-sitting yet for one more day. We pulled out as soon as we got dumped so we could get repairs done and get ready for the next wave of action. Rough fire is going to be exactly that rough.

Yea... I would say start with the thermostat. I would just get a NAPA thermostat first.

Skip the dry weights...Get the Gross Weight numbers of the RV and figure on that. So what is the GVWR of the trailer? Then figure the pin weight would be about 25% of the GVWR for pin weight.

Fire Call
I returned home from the the Electronic Site Fire. Small 10 acre lightning fire. Spent the whole time shuttling water up the mountain for the USFS crews. I had a blast driving that 1984 Kenworth Water Tender! My buddy and myself are assigned to the tender as drivers now. We managed all the tight twisty roads up Cold Springs Mountain. Days start early in the morning and end late at night. Well just as the Electronic Site Fire was going in to mop up, the Rough Fire and Lightning Creek Fire Started, both lightning strike fires. So I'm on stand by for driving the tender again. I've got a bunch of pictures to post up on this thread later on when my Buddy Kelly emails them to me from his phone. But as for the Rough Fire it started last night at about 10-11pm last night. It was in a cliff side of the Salmon River valley. By Morning it blew up and now the last acre number I heard was about 200-300 acres roughly. So like I said I'm on stand by and I'll be leaving most likely again... But I'm enjoying sleeping in my bed and getting to sleep in for now... I'm one tired puppy...

Thank you all... You make a huge difference in my driving skill I've managed to drive it now into town and get the tender loaded with water and fuel and ready to attack fire tomorrow morning at 6am. I'm not going to sleep much tonight. So I'll get some posting done. But I wanted to say thank you all for all the wonderful information and getting me schooled up for this water tender.

Need to be schooled in Big rig driving...
http://www.itd.idaho.gov/dmv/driverservices/CDL.htm Exemptions from CDL Requirements Even if your vehicle is a commercial vehicle according to the definition above, you may qualify for one of the CDL exemptions. There are four categories of CDL exemptions. Recreational vehicle exemption - applies to drivers of vehicles used exclusively to transport personal possessions or family members for non-business or recreational purposes. Military vehicle exemption - applies to military vehicle operators who are considered active-duty military personnel and to civilians who are required to wear uniforms and are subject to the Code of Military Justice. Emergency vehicle exemption - applies to drivers of firefighting or other emergency equipment used in response to emergencies involving the preservation of life or property. Farm vehicle exemption - applies to drivers of farm vehicles, including family members and farm hands, under certain conditions only. The farm exemption applies to drivers of farm vehicles which are: [*]Controlled and operated by the farmer, [*]Used to transport agricultural products, supplies, and machinery to or from a farm, [*]Not used in common or contract carrier operations, and [*]Not driven more than 150 miles ("as the crow flies") from the farm. The farm exemption is intended for small farm-to-market operations only. Unless Idaho is involved in a reciprocity agreement with the other state(s), the farm exemption does not extend beyond the boundaries of Idaho. It does not include farmers who are transporting other farmers' products if they are receiving any compensation for the services.
