Check timing bolts
The first thing I would do is adjust the valves. Sounds like you have a cylinder or two that are imbalanced compared to the others. It could also be an injector issue or even a VP problem!

Chasing EGTs: larger injector?
You need to get the waste gate opening to drop the drive pressure and quite possibly install a larger turbo (or even two!!).

Automatic Problems
A Dave G transmission really isn't that much! $3550 for a 47RE. Here are the details: http://www.goerend.com/internalparts.php

Automatic Problems
Oooohhhhhh, Don't expect to have much more than a stock tranny from there. If I were you I would either contact Dave Goerend (www.goerend.com) or DTT (http://www.dieseltrans.com/) for a tranny that you will be much happier with.

Adding Forward turn signal lights?
Russ, I had the same problem with my truck and fiver. Anyone beside me could not see any turn signal. What I did was put the semi lights (clearance/turnsignal) on the front of the fiver just behind the truck, put LED arrow lights on the mirrors (got them at K-Mart for about $5). The only problem I had with them was figuring out how to make them work for turn signals only. I wound up putting relays in to run them. They would not run off the signal itself. I don't understand how the signal power for the front lights would run a relay but not the LEDs. Anyhow, I have since added a headache rack with lights too!

Failed emissions :(
Crank your starwheel to the rear of the pump and you should be fine. Once done with the testing you can put it back.

egr cooler
Off the record they might tell you that, but far as warranty....... The way things are you would be hard pressed to find a dealer that won't void your complete warranty in the computer so that no dealer will honor it.

Chrysler will buy the 6.2% the Gov. still has!
As another proud UNION member (United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 11) I say to you Don GREAT JOB!!! Unions are a great thing for ALL workers (even though some don't think so). That shows that we can and do work with companies to help make the profitable! Far as the comment about the current administration, the TARP was his predecessor's work............

Black Smoke
If it is stock, no, it should not smoke like that. Check for any boost leaks you can find. There is also a possibility that there is an injector problem too......

fuel life
Yes, Dripley, the fuel can have up to 20% bio. Also, I had a 1994 CTD in my garage for two years with a full tank and it ran just fine.

no start, buzzing asd
You mean your oil pressure gauge goes to zero? That would be either the pressure sender or the ECM. You can verify the pressure with a mechanical gauge too. --- Update to the previous post... jdawgndad: It's possible you are losing grounds to the PCM itself there for the relay is not getting grounded properly

fuel life
Around here the state says ALL diesel fuel is supposed to be a minimum 2% bio.

Fuel sender failure?
Sorry, but I didn't get any pictures either. Once you get the sender in your hand it really is 'self explanatory' for what you need to do. On one of them (I repaired three so far) all that I need to do was flip the wiper over and it worked again. Take a look at this for a better visual: http://dodgeram.org/tech/repair/fuel_sender/sender.htm

fuel life
A couple of months shouldn't be a problem. A couple of winters ago my truck sat almost all winter (only put 400 miles on) and had zero problems with the fuel.
