  1. Ok I tried to down load the 02 schemeatic but I am missing a program to open RAR files with. what is rar and what program do I need to open it?As for the cruise It will not turn on, the light in the dash will not come on. I am not sure if the cruise light is supposed to self check but it doesn't illuminate at first key on like all the other cluster lights do. I put a new clock spring in today thinking that was the problem as my horn quit working as well but after taking the column trim off I found 3 broken wires which I fixed and replaced the clock spring anyhow. an now the cruise light still doen't turn on but the horn works again, I looked for a fuse for it in both fuse clusters and found none labeled for cruise so now I need to do some digging into a schematic or the service manual for troubleshooting ideas.Anyone have any ideas?:shrug:I hasn't worked for so long I don't even remember where the cruise indicator light is in the cluster anymore.
  2. Did you search on the VW forum? http://forums.tdiclub.com/ This is by far the best forum as far as technical info goes I have ever seen on the web, tons of info and lots of help. I go here whenever I need VW help on my 03 TDI. I have never been let down yet.
  3. If that includes all parts including the block and labor at a reputable shop I think its a bit high but I am not sure what labor rates in the area are or what flat rate time is to R&R and rebuild is. I would guess in the 40 hour range. How much is a new block?
  4. I have been doing it for a living for 20 years so I am a bit unique in how I do things, plus it helps to have a good selection of hammers as well, there is always one that is just right for every job. If the hammer is heavy enough it only requires taps.
  5. That approach is just a bandaid for the real issue. For winter traction regaurdless of power or how to harness it, Comes down to tires tires tires and the proper choice there of. Which usually comes down to those with lots of siping for the best traction and stopping power in slick winter conditions.Sorry for the thread jacking but just felt the need to throw that out there.
  6. There is all kinds of room to just tap the seal in from inside the housing just like you would any other seal.Just did both sides of my 02 a couple months ago. Harder getting the old ones out than getting the new ones in.
  7. After talking with my coworker who owns a steering gear repair company about the stock boxes he claims he can build them to be a 3.5 turn box. Not sure if he stocks any or if he would need yours to rebuild but maybe it would be worth a phone call. His name is Ryan Vigessa and here is a link to his site. He works shift work so a message may have to be left, he is a great guy. He may even be able to get the borgesson box cheaper than other places as well. http://www.bluetopsteeringgears.com/
  8. The borgeson box from Genos is a 3.5 turn box and is the best mod there is hands down on 2nd gen rams. http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp?number=BORG-800112 If you read the description it directly and clearly gives the specs and says its a 13:1 ratio 3.5 turn box. They are now the only 3.5 turn box that can be bought as new. Stock boxes are 16:1 ratio 4.5 turn.
  9. The info is right there on their site. https://treadwright.com/t-faq.aspx They have a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty with rubber tread life rating of 40-50,000 miles.
  10. Ah Ha, I now see the words "FREE" and "CHEAP". Guess I need more coffee also didn't see the word cheap the first time I read it.
  11. Hard to not discuss the primary reason for the trend thats becoming all to common thats slowly indoctrinating our society into accepting a police state. Kind of like the frog in the pot of water and slowly turning up the heat. The only road side inspections here in ND are for commercial vehicles usually safety and weight checks. With the Baaken oil patch in western ND going gang busters they are starting to crack down a lot harder in that area. The only other is for sobriety check but those are advertised about a week ahead of time in the local media about when and in what area but not the exact location. But it is done by local law enforcement and State patrol HP's only. Also state law requires the check be posted at a certain distance that one is ahead and there has to be an area "Approach" or something similar for people to turn around to avoid it. The constitutional Possie Commitatis act is still respected in our state. The national gaurd and other military reserves ride the razors edge at times during states of emergency but they do follow the rules here.
  12. It says in his post he has an 04.5.
  13. Not totally free but a great mod is the mod to the factory air box to get more cold air into it in the summer time. There are several names for it from hardware store mod or the company PSM cold air intake in my signature that makes a prefabbed kit.If its free I would like to know how to get the fogs to stay on with the high beams. I know there are kits to do this but how did you get it done for free?
  14. Nope not insinuating anything nor suggesting anything personal against you at all, just laying out some info about the topic at hand for reference.
  15. I wouldn't be so sure with your sell out Governor trying to sell off as much land as he can to any foreign country that comes forward for the transcontinental highway.
  16. Can't wait to hear the results.
  17. This is specifically for you in Texas. http://www.prisonplanet.com/jones-family-confront-warrantless-checkpoint-round-2.html Anoldbiker, This is for you in Tennessee. http://www.prisonplanet.com/tennessee-joins-tsa-in-creating-random-check-points.html I could flood this board with examples of this unconstitutional activity. This is why we Need Mr. Ron Paul to be next in the oval office.
  18. There are several folks over at Midwestdieselconnection who run them and have had great luck with them. I am going to buy a set of them next time I need a set of rubber to try them out.
  19. Just loosen the motor mount bolts and put a jack under the dampner and raise it until the bolts are to the top of the motor mount slots where the mount flares out a bit. No need to go any higher. I have done several this way with no issues.
  20. As stated above you need to get your hand inside and remove the pickup tube off the oil pump to get the pan off.
  21. :spend:I have an estimated 60K in my tool collection over the past 20 years of being a diesel tech. Glad I have worked at coal mines for the last 10 years where they supply tools for the techs. No telling how much more I would have invested otherwise. Reason I have so many is I worked out of a service truck on heavy equimpent and when you are working in the middle of nowheres its best to have everything you need on hand.Best personal tool investment I have ever made was buying a used vehicle hoist for my shop. Was 2K installed, my bad back thanks me every time I use it.
  22. Yep that tool goes through the fly wheel housing and you turn the engine over via the flywheel. IIRC there is a plug on the front passenger side of the flywheel housing that it fits into. I have a couple of them from when I worked at a CaseIH and Komatsu which used mostly Cummins engines about 10 years ago.How much was the vp44 gear puller? I think I paid about 10 bucks for my steering wheel puller many years ago.
  23. All you need is a 10 dollar steering wheel puller to pop the drive gear, no need for any special tools at all.
  24. Thats not a beer gut, its a protective wrapper for his 6 pack abs.
  25. If I read it correctly the boot just slipped off due to a bad clamp? If so then just upgrade to new better clamps and see what happens. I have seen many blown out hoses they usually deteriorate from oil which makes them week, the other thing is the lower driver side ones can rub through on the fender tin as its really close.
