  1. Yeah I had a number of my valves burnt/cracked ....... cant remember how many they replaced but with the new valves and machine work and then taking the head off and on was close to $1k. So if the machine shop has a good one for you - for same price - then your good to go. No idea if the guy would take the head back or refund you some $$ if you sent the pics/analysis. Reach out to him you never know - am sure it will end up biting you regardless - sorry man.

welcome - great place to be - lets see a pic of that 6sp beast !! LEd lights and all !!
  3. R-R-R-realllly ?? cawwmon - don't hold out - any info ???
  4. Dunnono idea on what a gasser gets mixed driving and towing heavy. But curious to see what that saves over 1,3,10 years ....................... MPG/fuel only ................. and then probably say diesel=gas on repairs/maintenance just mixed driving Then which would have more $$ in repairs (tranny, injection etc) towing. And adjust accordingly.
  5. So if we take a consenus of 12 MPG towing (DIESEL) and 17 MPG (mix driving towing/highway) which seems to me to be about typical hows THAT compare over various mileages comapred to a new GASSER.
  6. YOUR A FREAK !!!! good stuff Yeah - if I had it all over again I woould have seriously looked at a 12V. Cheaper to buy , and less parts that fail - so it seems with ISX and some guys on CF. Can't beat 20 +MPG all day long and 300k miles. I do like the looks of the 3rd Gen onwards tho. How long would a tranny on a new GASSER last pulling 12000 lbs - same ?? I guess they are built basically the same right.

wow - thats full on - good business though if he can get it - and fair enough - gotta have his guys clean down the equipment thoroughly as well as his time/running expenses.
  8. What MPG to you 3rd Gener's get on the CR - must tow more than 7500 lbs And be HAND CALCULATED !
  9. Hey - personally I am a pretty pro-dog rights and proper care. Now with that out of the way I think you should report to the police. I know its sounds OTT - but think - if a 12 year old gets into the same situation with the owners not controlling the dog you could read of a pretty bad situation sometime down the track. Sorry for the seriuous side - I know you were just opening a general chit chat - I love dogs and I quite like pitbulls - I don't however like a LOT of the owners of what I consider a potential threat. Any large dog is same. Keep it leashed when it has any chance of being around people - especially if it has any inclination of that kind of behaviour. A lot of large dogs don't. IF it was me - I would consider sueing as well - if you have any marks on your shirt as well as a witness ?? You might pick up $1k for a new turbo - haha - serious - it sends a message to the owner. My
  10. http://au.news.yahoo.com/world/a/-/world/8159986/colonels-secret-murderous-life dad ???
  11. hey manmeant to ask when we were talking todayassume you were towing ?? what did you do ?? Ring someone to come get you - what about the trailer ? Did you have to park it all in middle of road ?
  12. Yeah - spoke with caj ............ he had some good info.Thinking where I am at is probably about right. Might just need to slow down a little on the big hills. I had heard that the 3rd gens get 16-18 MPG towing ........ but after speaking with caj wondering if this is true ........ that was main reason wondering why couldn't get the same mpg towing with a 2nd gen with appropriate mods. EGT's were a concern - but seems everyone comfortable with around 1100. Might be better off putting that $$ aside when/if my tranny goes.
  13. yeah good pointspoke with jacob and he reckons turbo not going to help me reduce EGT;s that muchso not sure what else would be work - methanol/water injection i guess - eek
  14. Yeha - see my PM - I had a bunch of questions for you - and one as your guy thx mate
  15. EGTS generally around 750-950 with 7-12 PSI boost. Start going up a small grade in OD - and quickly jump to 24PSI and 1050 EGT. Big HIlls - I drop out of OD and increase the throttle to around 27-29PSI and get around 950 EGT. Most nervous bit was climbing big hill with trucks doing around 30mph ...... my EGT's were consistently 1100 until I dropped a gear and then boost increased to 30PSI and egts were around 950. Other time was 2 ours of up/down climbing of medium grades where EGTS were consistently 1100 for 2 hours - that was a bid scary :P
  16. yeah thats kinda along the lines of what I am thinking. But then you have to ask why edge say only tow in level 2 - no higher. Wondering if its to do with torque management etc ........ I haev a slightly built trans - so if I baby it - should be fine ........ but wanna check around first - see if any guys are actually doing it. --- Update to the previous post... Spoke with edge. They said as long as I keep my EGT;s down - and don't try and rip through the power towing - should be ok - its mainly controlling the fuel/EGTs. So might need to look for a bigger turbo - guessing thats the best way to get my EGT's down without going to methanol/water injection stuff.
  17. Yeah I am 10000lbs and only getting 11-13. Running on Level 2 edge. Was wandering if I upgraded my turbo enough could I run on levels 3,4 etc ?? I only seem to be maxxing out my EGT's, tranny seems good at low temps .... just don't know abouth torque pulling like that. Would love to get a consistent 14-16 ........ thats what the 3rd gens seem to get on that weight. Yeah am towing around 60 generally and up to 70. Hard to keep at 55 over long distances but might need to try. I also like to accelerate into the hard hills.
  18. Valve Body with flow in park. And a single disk unless your going over 400HP. I think cat used a revmaxx, same as me .......... not sure why he is going goerand this time - cat did you get 314k on the TC as well ?? Then how come the change ?? I have found mine pretty good so far - although I probably would have got the single rather than the tripple. Single is like $350 and the valve body is around $300 -> so $600-$700 all up and should be good. If you like to really build your stuff out - you could save on the VB and get a transgo shift kit as well as some new bands etc and save $150 bucks. Factor $400-$600 for tranny drop and reinstall. But if you do yourself - its not too bad - just have someone to help and have a good tranny jack.
  19. Hey guys(Thx isx) Yeah gonna have to monitor it for the next week or so and if it comes back update. BUt it really did fix it immediately - whatever the underlying 'reset' was - eitehr apps or edge or something in ecm etc. Not more problems for 3 days and 1400+ miles. Only reason I wanted to do APPS reset was it didn't feel like a miss (engine was smooth) it just started bucking. At first I thought a fuel supply issue - but always 14psi or higher. So then thought only thing we moved when doing injectors was APPS so maybe the throttle was off somehow and the computer had a hard time getting the throttle correct. Dunno - but it worked !
  20. whaaa !! what mileage did you get ??? 9k fifth wheel/trailer (wind resistance) or flat trailer ?? Trying to work out if I can ever get better than 11-13mpg towing 10k 5th wheel. yes - thx for the info on the setup - made it easy :P
  21. yessirr- thanks man FYI - just towed 1600 miles through MO to Phoenix AZ and never saw tranny temps over 170 degrees when locked up
  22. Yeah my uncle bought a 68 or 69 fastback - black and immaculate - I really really like it .......... but some of the other posts here are real nice. Not sure if I will get to do it ($$) ....but we'll see ...... then I can fly ISX back to help me work on it - hahahahah
  23. hmm thought it had cleared out a code as I previously had a p04*** something related to fuel sensor wiring/poor signal and I never cleared it - yet when I cycle key since the battery disconnect I just get 'pdone'Will put my scanner on it later ........ let you know. MM - anyway you can thing of that the apps gets misaligned/miscalibrated and cause throttling issues - I guess this issue might come back - but so far 3 days of heavy towing and nothing. If it doesn;t come back - has to be either the APPS or some other reset - edge/ecm etc ???
  24. Hey guys - just got in. No more issues. Silly - I forgot to look for codes at the time - and just did the disconnect on the road. No codes anymore and no more issues. This is what I did notice via EDGE monitoring. %TPS was stable about 39-40% RPM was stable around 1760 or something from memory MPH was ALL OVER THE PLACE That was the only thing - and once it hit like 120mph once or twice it felt like it was defueling. Resetting the APPS fixed the issue - but obviously this might also do other things like reset the edge or other ECM/PCM stuff ?? Dunno - but everything else was fine - just that one thing all over the place - and my RPM + MPH on my dash were fine - only the edge MPH. eitehr way - a smooth ride into AZ except for one pass at 35mph @1150 EGT ........ dropped the hammer and pushed my RPM's higher in a higher gear and more boost with my jhook, overtook the F-350 doing 30mph and cruised on by .......... so all nice now just gotta talk to catjflynn/sasqaauch and others about towing - only getting 11-12mpg towing 10000 lbs ..... be nice to get more ........
  25. Hey guysok - so 2 days after this all happened it stopped. So I didn't do everything. We took off for AZ - no problems for 1st 4 hour trip to parents towing.Few days after that we start our big trip - almost straight away the rpm's start jumping all over the place and the truck 'bucking' etc ........ edge started alerting about MPH too high even though only doing 55. Noticed the sensor on the edge was all over the place - saying we doing 60 then 120 then 40 mph. So I call ISX and decide to do a APPS reset. Pull over - 40 mins battery disconnect and slowly depress throttle in and out with ignition to 'ON'.All sweet - truck has behaved beautifully for 1400 miles since - will update if any other issues
