  1. Subscribed. Man thats awesome - even if it fixed 50% of the issues ................ subscribed
  2. Eeek - never thought of it that way - I think its configurable tho - so technically you could set it to defuel only at 40psi ?? I generally watch the boost + egt everytime I am towing - so you would know when you are getting to the limit and hust old it there - but yeah - good point. J-hook for HY35 only ........... on HX35 you need the boost elbow. If you have a proper j-hook you could sell it an make $10 http://sourceautomotive.biz/adjustableboostelbow.aspx
  3. Yeah look - I think I should qualify. What ISX says is right. There are a number of reasons why a bigger turbo and flange is better - not just the lowering of EGT. I guess I wasn't sure how much a hx35 would drop my egt's from, and I kinda liked the idea that the injection gave me lower EGT's and MORE power with methanol. The turbo alone won't give more power - it allows you to dump more fuel though=power. So - what I am trying to say is its NOT a cheaper or better option. Its just another option. I still have that 9cm restriction point with the HY35. And in the end if I really like the injections system I still MAY end up getting a hx35. I can get extra HP from running methanol - but that costs $$. So these kits are $400 odd plus the cost of running methanol - so its an ongoing cost once you get it. So in that way its more expensive than a hx35. Anyway - I got mine for $220 missing a few small parts - so I might have $300 in it by the end. Then I need to buy methanol mix. I will mainly run water or low methanol (30%) so won't be too bad - but since I can buy a used HX35 for $250 total its definately not cheaper. I guess in the end I just wanted to try it, it seemed like a neat concept - and I think if it works I will get lower egt's - but I am yet to intall and prove how good it is !! Will keep you posted :P
  4. I just bought one - and haven't had a chance to annoy ISX and the guys yet about installing it. Gimme a week or two. There are 3 or 4 main vendors I have seen (Snow, AEM, devils own, coolingmist) ........ I hear good things about snow and devils own. Generally you use distilled water or the -20c blue anitfreeze from wallyworld which is 30% methanol I think. Most guy seem to use 1 nozzle - but the nozzles are rated at different gph of flow - so depends - kit comes with 2. The system is controlled to come on at a set PSI like say 16 and max out at a second setting like say 25. I hear of all different kinds of figures - with the literature saying +50-70HP and - 250 degrees egt. The guys I speak with in real life tend to say they like the kit but hard to put a number on it. Sounds like each setup is different and they average around 100-200 degrees reduction at full boost of EGT and pickup 1-2mpg+. The amount of fluid depends on how long your running at high boost - and what you set the system at - eg - towing. BUt I think daily driving will run around 1 gallon (around the amount in your windshield wiper fluid) for a full tank .............. towing .......around 50-80 miles per gallon depending on terrain. I only bought this as I got it for same price as a used turbo, else I would have gone with the HX35 first I figured I will try it for a while, if I don't like it I will sell it an buy the hx35. No loss apart from some time and a few parts. I also happen to like the HY35 Its spools nicely with my thottle - and I don't want the HX35 to 'lag' it down - I don't think it will as same size except for flange/exhaust ........ but I don't know :P
  5. AMEN BROTHER - that should be a sticky on its own.!!! Man - wish I knew back then ................... could have saved myself so much $$ and :banghead:
  6. I agree - you already have a semi-built tranny - get a edge juice - the new CTS ones looks awesome with touch screen and rear view camera etc ............ you can run from like +40HP to like +120 HP at flip of switch and generally pick up 2-3 mpg. Else - a comp or EZ - just buy second hand - get for 50% off new prices ........ if you don't like it - then sell it for what you paid for it ............... no loss
  7. Since I don't have 1st hand experience - I just bought one I will just say I bought it to reduce EGT's whilst towing to allow me to run my EDGE on higher levels. Here are some links with more info - once I have it installed will post 1st hand experiences; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_injection_(engines) http://www.snowperformance.net/faqs_type.php?type=diesel Unlike gasoline engines, the power in a turbo diesel is largely a function of fuel. The problem with continually adding fuel is that you create an over-fueling condition and reach a point where the exhaust gas temperatures become prohibitive (over 1300 degrees F). A 50/50 water/methanol mix will decrease EGT's approximately 200-300 degrees F while increasing power 50-100HP. Power is increased through: • Air charge cooling - Water/methanol usually lowers air charge temps over 200 degrees F. Low air temps makes denser air charge which provides more molecules of oxygen for combustion. • Combustion conditioning - the methanol acts as a combustion catalyst as well as a cooling agent. Water vaporization inside the combustion chamber increases torque and power output through "the steam engine" effect. ..... thats the theory

  9. Don't know anything about the ebay ones - are they genuine holset ?? They are probably fine. I would look over at CF. I know some moderators and key people were selling HX35's used for around 250 shipped. Since its off a working truck - thats what I would look for ................ I think you need a downpipe adjustment for the exhaust ?? Not sure ...... I think thats what rburks meant;
  10. well the hx35 is going to be cheapest option as manual guys get rid of these to upgrade. ~$250 Anything else is generally $1000+ new and $750-$850 second hand - due to upgraded compressor/wheel everything There is a hyrid 35/40 - I think thats closer to $600 new. eg http://www.dieselautopower.com/product_p/dodgezilla%2035-fslash-40.htm So lots of choices ..... but if your not planning to upgrade any further - the HX35 for $250 might be best value Else those hybrids look nice. If you go crazy - then the s300 or a twin setup - but minimum $1k.
  11. I had it degassed/vacuumed and then regassed with freon to get all the air out. Worked about 1 day. Previously it worked for liek 2 months - but gradually got warmer. I'll check a couple things and repost. Kinda thinking if nothing obvious may try a noleak - but hate to do it. What actually dictates delivering the cold air flow via the controller on dash. ?
  12. lmao - just suggested you do an apps reset in other thread. Did you wait at least 40 mins with both batteries disconeccted ? Can you speak with the guys from TIMBO apps and see what he thinks. ?? if it only happens at 45 --- are you in OD. As thats when the TC locks up. Could be a solenoid issue. I think its at 35 without OD - you could try driving for a while without OD and see what happens.
  13. Dunno - inititally you said RPM's stable at top of thread - here you say jumping 100rpms. Only reason I ask is I had same issue after injecto install (+100rpm jump) . APPS reset got rid of the issue immediately - and been around 2 weeks and not come back. Still monitoring.
  14. Yeha I do need to check it........... but leak was so small all the freon must not have leaked yet (I assume) So then why HOT air ?? Will look tonight.
  15. That sounds like a plan. If you can get most major dents out for $2k ..........then you have $5500 in pocket for "play toys". Dumb question - I know the salvage title impacts your abity to sell in future ...... was that the concern ?? As I would think if you sold salvage ......... and take all your goodies out ...... you'd still get $4-$5k. ........ SO that would mean when you do decide to sell you would have ~$12k PLUS all your goodies to pu in new truck. ??
  16. So ------ still have warm air after $1000k. Nice. I had the company vacuum everything else out and regass with with a DIE pack. I need to check 1) AC clutch is cycling on ( I believe it is as I can hear it - but will phsyically check)2) Check pressure from low pressure port3) Check for leaks around the compressor. Currently in all honestly it feels like its almost blowing hot air - not cold - if I turn down the windows it feels 30 degrees cooler (I know I am moving) .............. If no obvious leaks and pressure ok ?? What next ................. leaning to "leak fix" as I CAN"T spend any more monmey on this - its riducolous - and now being in AZ I can't take back to midas in MO to continue working it.
  17. common - suspense is killing me
  18. Happy birthday old fella NOt much longer now http://cache4.asset-cache.net/xc/88626991.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=EDF6F2F4F969CEBD02C1E3374C478A715D94D3A202814360C590671AD38418A6E30A760B0D811297 HAHAHHAHA
  19. Definately do all the 2 stroke and valve adjustment - its FREE. Then if you put your ear to the AIR INTAKE (BHAF ?) ........ if its really loud and more of a 'tick' than a 'light thud' - then it most definately could be a head/valve issue. I had my exhaust valves fixed and head machined back to the tune of $1k ........ sucks
  20. Will do - is that the one in the stadard relay location - with horn etc on front box on drivers side fender. Cat may have a different VB and solenoids. BUt with jims co-pilot like he said controlling lockup I did disable cold start protection from edge. Either worse or same - almost stalled today - and probably 55 degrees. Wondering if worth removing the EDGE completely to take that out of the equation ?? But does it leave the fuel/mapping tables in the ECM ?
  21. yeah - unfortunately what the ^^^^^big dog said ^^^^^^ I just bought a methanol/water kit ................... Bigger Turbo was the other option. HX35 or a hybrid would be a cheaper way of turbo upgrade as with the HX35 lots of guys get rid of them when they upgrade their manuals. ~$250. Think Jacob does a hybrid deal.
  22. On that note - don't some of the the modified VB/shift kits have the ability to "pump in park". If ours don't ( i have a feeling mine doesn't) .... then I did wonder if the fluid itself could drain back like you said a create an issue. Originally I was wondering with the extra tranny cooler, which jim has also, but I know the LOAD on engine was dragging this down prior to that install. Jim - on yours you said it kills it much quicker ...... is it possible on yours the TC lockup solenoid activates momentarily and puts too much LOAD and kills instantly ? john
  23. ** I normally pull in an then 'R' out the next morning. I will start backing in so I can pull out in 'D' and let you know. I know I had issues in either 'R' or 'D'. Will post. ** Yeah I tried this before - made no diffference **. ** ISX ** - remember how my grid heaters connections - they were corroded - would that have disabled the grid heater from working ? Wondering if the TC puts a load on engine ........ but any second factor tips it over edge (grid heater, battery voltage, larger injectors, atf fluid too cold, air density etc etc) ..... thats why hard to isolate
  24. Just an update - am loving my $3 turnbuckle - best mod on my truck for the bang or buck. FUN: I can punch it at a light - and my boost keeps up with me and now my EGT's at full throttle barely hit 900 - stock injectors (RV275's are off for now) ..................... previously would peg 1100 at least. Boost used to be 21 - now hit around 28-30. Can really hear the turbo above 23 TOWING: When I need to downshift as my EGT's are too hot - I can accelerate in the higher gear and my boost again hits 28 and my egt's are no longer a concern. Passed 3 semis comming into AZ ....... we got stuck around 35 mph - and I was out of lockup .... so TC was starting to do some work and heat in tranny ......... just punched on it a little ----- bootst went up, egts came down and I hit 40mph and passed back into lockup ............... which then cooled my tranny down again ~15 degrees !! nice
