Looking for a new truck
I should also add that I'm not opposed to a plane ticket, diesel and some miles, but I'm also not big on basically buying something sight unseen ya know?

Looking for a new truck
Yea I was wondering about that?? gahhh! I sort of assumed they just replaced the bumpers with the sports just for the look. I've searched in other states for trucks but anything under 200k or even 150k and they want to price it up like 15k plus. I'm really looking to find something cheaper. Have you guys seen a non 53block 6spd at 10k in your area?

Looking for a new truck
Thanks for the input! Trust me, my only real reservations about the truck is the mileage. With that being said, he said it was a flag truck for his trucking company so although 300k is a lot of miles, they shouldn't of been all real HARD miles according to the owner. The problem in this area though is a 6spd, non-53 block with anything less then 200k has been near 20k or more and I'm not going to pay that regardless of condition, and a lot of times it was a 53 block as well. I'm planning on keeping this truck for the next 15+ years so eventually a full engine/frame/trans rebuild would be in the works. I've just been looking for this exact combo for quite a while and even though this is got some decent miles on it, its had a single owner and seems to have been kept up pretty good for a 'work truck' I dunno, am I crazy?! lol

Looking for a new truck
Alright guys so the stars might be aligning and I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this truck. Anyone notice any red flags?! He said an edge evo is installed but from what I can tell, only the JWA is available for this year... yes/no?! Also, anyone know about these extrude honed injectors he lists?

Welcome to the forums! Sounds like you got a nice rig and doing things the right way!

Looking for a new truck
Alright so I'm back at it! lol I can't help it! Anyways, I found this truck and it looks like a pretty solid rig. The owner seems to of done a lot of nice things to it. My only question is what else is there too look for in a higher mileage truck like this one? Like at what point do you crack open the engine and start replacing things to keep the engine fresh? https://portland.craigslist.org/yam/cto/5374090324.html

Another one learn the cold truth of a fuel pressure gauge
Eric's a great guy! He talked me through my initial fuel pressure issues when I first got my truck before I had found out about this site! Glad you got things in order!

Another one learn the cold truth of a fuel pressure gauge
A fuel pressure gauge is a must! Anyone I ever run into that drives one of these trucks that doesn't have one gives me the serious cringe face! I made the same mistake when I first got mine, finally hooked up gauges only to find out that I had 0psi, so needless to say, lift pump was replaced. Anyways, glad you got things sorted out and welcome (back) to the forums!

The time has come to produce the Mopar1973Man High Idle & MPG fooler switches again.
Mine will do the same thing if I start her up in MPG mode when it's around those temps. No big deal!

Are you living in the area of isis' hit list?
Stay frosty my friends! I've been ordering as much ammo as my budget will allow recently!! pew pew!

That must be it then Mike. I feel like I'm turning the knob as fast as possible without going into a mode unintentionally but that does make sense as to why it's happening.

One thing I've noticed with my switch is if I start up in MPG mode and then later switch to 6cyl or 3cyl, the truck will 3cyl high idle in either position. The only way I've been able to get 6cyl or 3cyl high idle to work is to start the truck with the switch in the OFF position and then switching to either mode after start up. Don't necessarily think this is what's causing your problem, but just something I've noticed.

So I meant to clear the codes before my drive to work this morning and totally forgot since I was running late. But, on my start up to head back home, the code cleared itself! So, what I'm going to do now is leave it in MPG mode and log every start outside air temp as well as how many starts it takes to throw the code again. Then see how long it takes to go away. I'm really more curious now, I don't think it really matters as far as technical data since the truck seems to correct itself after leaving the switch OFF while starting and waiting 30ish seconds before selecting a mode. Either way I'll keep this post updated.

That's awesome man, congrats! That's quite the resume! It's gotta feel good to know that you'll be able to hang things up so soon!

Yea after reading the full code error I was thinking the same thing Mike. How much difference is there in software between 99-02? Nick, I'll clear the code and run a little experiment. One leaving the High Idle switch off on every start and then turning it to MPG or any other mode after engines been on 30 seconds. The other will be just leaving it on MPG mode all the time and see if the code comes back and if so, how long it took. I'll keep you guys posted.

It seems like I'm getting all the typical indications that the grid heater is still working. Should I just clear the code and see if it comes back? I'm thinking that starting in MPG mode has caused it to throw this code since it holds IAT at 140 and doesn't fluctuate. Does that sound way out to lunch?

OK so update time! Went for a quick ride to Wal-mart and back, round trip is probably 8 miles. it was 50* outside, no plug in start and my IAT was reading a solid 59*. After driving a bit it settled down in the 90's and I saw a peak of 109 around idle and low speed. Has my heater gone bad?

Alrighty then, safe driving here I come!

Mike/Nick I'll give those a shot when I actually drive the truck again. Is there a way to capture data or record to be able to play back so I don't have to sit there and stare at a screen while driving? This is with the OBDlink MX.

Alright guys so I got the OBDLINK up and running. It's a really cool tool and really eye opening to how much you and monitor and track. Anyways, I'm throwing a 1291 code, and from the quick lookup I did, it seems like it's related to the high idle kit. I'm not 100% sure but it'd be nice if I could just clear it and be done.

That's good to hear! Hoping that's all this is. I just ordered the OBDlink MX and an Android tablet for the wife, but for me to commandeer during times like these! I'll update once I get everything hooked up. Also, for anyone interested the OBDlink MX is 50% off on Amazon right now link HERE

Teardown and Rebuild
Dude... you drive a lot!! haha

Ah ok! Got it! Well this looks like a win win for me. I've been wanting to get the wife some sort of tablet/laptop type device so she doesn't have to always use her phone for everything so I think I'll get her a little higher end tablet so she can use it for her stuff and then when I need it to read the ODBII I can use it as well!

So the ODB is sort of the middle man, ie; it's gathering and sending info from your vehicle to whatever device, then you download an app or some program for your specific vehicle or needs and go from there. That sound right?

Hmmm that might be worth a shot, especially with cyber monday around the corner. Might try and pick up a decent one for the wife to use, otherwise get one on the cheap! The ODBlink MX should be compatible with both the Dodge and my 2014 GMC right?
