  1. I live down in Hickory. My grids are disconnected and I do plug mine in when the temp gets into the low 20's. Even at 20 I only plug it in for 30 minutes or so. In that time I can raise the coolant temp 30 to 40 degrees as long as it is not real windy. The truck will still fire off without it plugged in, it is just that the truck is happier when I do that. I get heat quicker also.
  2. I might also add you will get your questions answered. Some answers will take longer than others though.
  3. Good advice above especially with the quad!!!!
  4. I wish I could post up an old picture of this old hippie. That was my past occupation, but I got paid for going to work everyday. I kinda liked that paycheck on weekly basis, Sure made it easier to pay the bills.
  5. Sure you aint been smoking the high altitude Oregon logs again? AA HA HAAAAA old friend. Couldn't resist that one.
  6. I have to defer to quad experts here. I belive the quad has that ability but could not tell you how it works. The ECM has that capability if enabled, no tuner needed. The site here sells a high idle/MPG switch.
  7. I was speaking of the Smarty being able to enable the ecm to produce high idle. I dont much about Smarty and nothing about Superchip. The ECM on the is capable of high idle but it has ro be enabled.
  8. Our 2nd gen do have high idle and 3 cylinder idle. They have to enabled on the ECM. Takes a DRB III to do it I believe, maybe a Smarty. Not sure of the year of your truck but only reads both computers on some 01's and most all 02's. That could also be why you are seeing the 1693 code. But I would clear them and see if it comes back as @Me78569 suggests.
  9. The 1693 is acode to let you there i a code in one of the computers. That means you should code. They codes are listed in the articles section. How are you checking for the codes?
  10. It would not hurt to check the new alt out. Some fail out of the box, more than you might think. Checking grounds and general elctrical health is always a good idea.
  11. You need good tuning for the bigger injectors. Aren't your 75's smokey and hot? My 50's are with the Comp. I am going to put some rv's back in mine with the HG install. They are much more tame than 50's are. Now when and if I get a Quad I will upgrade to much larger injectors and be able tune most of that out.
  12. I am glad to hear that. I thought the same thing, if it were not for the FP gauge I would have sworn it was not working. My hearing aint what it used to be, but I no longer feel as deaf as my wife tells me am. Might be that selective hearing.
  13. I did not realize that was the pump you were getting. Can you hear yours run? I cant hear mine at all. Though I have never stuck my head under the truck to listen, just bent over some and still cant hear it. The old one I could hear until I fired the engine off.
  14. With my MAP sensor issue, you are not far off. I know thats right. But after HG replacement, new injectors and what not, the truck will be ready to rip once again.
  15. 460k on my oe. I lovd em.
  16. The last time I had Florida in every passage way was on the beach in Fort Myers when tide came after trying to drink all the liquor they had down there. That is an impossible task, but it was fun trying.
  17. I wear my scars proudly!!!!
  18. How is your tappet cover gasket? That thing will make it look like everything is leaking.
  19. I am still riding on the oe springs on all 4 corners.
  20. I use mine when I can and its cold, not because it starts any easier but that it is not as angry when it starts. I started mine once at -10* s, no plug in, did not wait on the grids to warm up, my mistake. She fired right off. I did not know an engine could make that much noise and not fall out of the truck.
  21. Thats what mine sits on. It is very possible your rear springs have sagged over the years and the new fronts are showing it up. I think mine have sagged some what on all 4 corners. Dont know for sure.
  22. I am going to get my RVs rebuilt and give that a shot. Just hope the other 3 hold until I pull the head.
  23. The only reason I changed my oe ones out was because one or more started leaking fuel into the head. At 240k or so on them I never noticed any power loss or drop in mileage. Any power loss might not have been noticed since they were in so long though. The fuel leaking was a good excuse to buy the RVs.
