  1. Good catch. I miss read. It should only do that while cranking. At least i spelled cranking right this time.
  2. If the circuit for the lift pump is negatively switched you would have to use that ground would you not? I am just thinking out loud here cause i dont really know for sure.
  3. I might still be using mine had it not failed in this way. I guess the bolt was not tight. Just wore its way thru. Still have it matter of fact. Figured I would find a way to fix it one day. One day has never arrived though.
  4. Yes. On mine I just plugged the connector into the relay harness. Mine came with the AD and the harness had the corresponding connector to plug it into. I dont believe it would work without that ground. Someone smarter than me would have to confirm that. @IBMobile maybe.

    Welcome Rob.
  6. The fuse on the charge would not have stopped Mike's issue. His shorted thru the field wiring and not the charge wire. His problem could have happened with or without the ground mod. Your pump locking up could have caused the problem with the ECM loosing that function. Stray AC voltage can do it also. This is what the ground mod is about, reducing the ac voltage and getting the charge wire out of the harness with signal wires. It also shortens all of computer grounds and makes a better ground for them. My AC voltage dropped from .035 ACv to .01 ACv. The AC voltage can damage your electronics. To much of either voltage is not a good thing.
  7. A match book was a good tool. You could gap and clean up a set of points. Very versatile and cheap too.
  8. The ground mod helps with stray AC voltage the alternator can produce. This can also hurt your electronics. Has nothing to do with DC out put. My AD came with an inline fuse and a relay. The fuse for the power to the pump and the relay to control the power to the pump. It is NOT the protective relay @IBMobile mentions. I think you can just swap the relay for the protected one.
  9. The Fass should have come with one.
  10. That is normal for the starting proceess. The ECM turns the pump on and off to keep the pressure down while crabking.
  11. X 2 on the above. Especially the key on hot for the lift pump.
  12. I was to say a bit surprised when I put that cluster and it read the donors truck mileage and not mine. At the time mine had 217k on it and would have been pretty easy to have left it there and reaped a lower mileage truck. But thats not me. I am sure it is someone elses MO though. Not sure how many folks know how easy that is to do.
  13. I see what you are saying. I have a cluster at home that came off a wrecked I bought 9 years ago. That truck had a 133k on it. If I put it in my truck now as I did then it shows 133k on the odo. Makes you not want to believe the odo on any of them. Pretty sure the ECM holds the true mileage, but when you send an ECM off for rebuild they ask for the mileage which I assume is to program the rebuilt one to show the true mileage. Lots a trust going on on that one.
  14. Me I would take the 9's or the o's and be just as happy. Whats a few 0 s or 9 s as long as they are consecutive. that is one purdy motor. You sure some kid did not build that with some good paint.???
  15. 456k on mine with just normal care. But who knows what a PO considers normal. I am by no means a @Mopar1973Man. Of course I do have a HG replacement coming up. My first in many many years.
  16. I know. Kickimg my self in the butt for not participating yet. That will change.
  17. Go with the RV's. You will be sorry to go any lower.
  18. 240k+ on my oe ones. Never lost any milage or performance that I noticed.
  19. I dont have one but have heard nothing but good things about them from the mebers here who have them.
  20. Hope the $3500 does not include shipping in your budget.
  21. The lift pump gets its power thru the ECM. The grid heaters get there power straight from the batteries. I am not sure whether the ECM or the PCM commands them to turn on. I think it is the ECM. The ECM controls idle and the VP takes over off idle from that point on. A miss can caused as mentioned above by old injectors, or air in the fuel, a leaky injector line. How many miles on those 50's? I too have slight miss that is almost unoticable, pretty sure mine is the injectors or leaky injector line. If your miss is as week is mine I would think it is in the fuel system not to include the VP. If the ECM is not turning your pump on that is a fault with the ECM not booting up properly. You can send the ECM off to be tested. You might check into having reflashed for a manual truck if possible. Here are some places to look at. One thing you need to do is get the 12v power for the lift pump off of the ECM. It could be the reason your ECM failed and is not powering your lift pump.
  22. We ended up with 12". Spent my morning plowing snow with my tires since they dont plow my road. Made a dozen trips up and down the road smashin and splashin snow the best I could. It was good enough to get the wifes Saturn out to the main.
  23. Me neither. I just mash it down with the truck and then put the wifes car where I park. The fun part for her is they dont plow the road I live on.It did quit snowing about noon. Warmed a little above freezing and them dropping below overnight. The roads will be a pain in the am.
  24. Definitely comes off of 2 pins from the ECM. On my 02 the MAP is on its own 5v. Guess I will chalk it up to them there gremlins.
