  1. My truck is like me, I creak and pop and squeak every once in while too. I fix what I can and learn to live with the rest.
  2. I remember that video. They went after with a passion and did not give up until it was off. Pretty darn funny.
  3. my steps in the photos got 160 mile highway trip on them,
  4. I did my bumper steps just to see what it would do. The left one I did with a fresh paper towel, the right one with the same towel but a lot the oil soaked in and I left a little piece undone just to compare. Did it last night with a flashlight and four tall boys. Got to admit it looks darn near new again. Wondered why the dogs were chasing me.
  5. Mine is real happy around 1900 to 2000 while towing. My 5th wheel goes about 15k. That is in any gear. 6 speed with 3:55 gears and 265 75 16's. While mine will still accelerate at 1400 to 1500, I don't like doing that in 6th.
  6. http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/ Another good place for spicer parts.
  7. While giving my favorite potato head a hard time is one of my favorite past times, I might have to cut him alot slack for now. I have been trying to complete my last job with a CO. Certificate of Occupancy for those that dont know. A building cannot be occupied until this is obtained. Durham NC is a very bureaucratic city and this has been very difficult. All this while trying to help out a new super on his first CFA and trying to help get my next job started in Bowie Maryland. Then add in tearing down the front of my truck over memorial day, I have been quite busy also. So for now Mike, I feel your pain. Here to wishing success in getting things off your plate. I had to get a #100 tub to catch my over flow and it is not big enough to dip your truck in. On a side note, my oil pan is dry for a change.
  8. Alright, I just got home about 30 minutes ago. I oiled my bumper steps. The first one with a good spread on a paper towel and the second with what was left on said paper towel. We will see what happens. On a side note i did this without olive oil. Still looking for the good grill.
  9. My truck and virgin dont go together either. But I do have a virgin front crank seal and a dry oil pan. That is is pretty awesome.
  10. Wonder how well peanut oil would work, Does wonders for floors.
  11. Te plumbing should be ok. Might need a different fitting to attach to the pump itself however.
  12. First i would get under the front of the truck and have someone turn the wheel back and forth and start looking for what is loose. Then I would jack each front wheel off the ground then with a crow bar or something similar pry up and down on the bottom of the tire and see if the wheel is moving, bad ball joints. Then grab tire by the sides and pull in and out, wheel bearings. With out knowing any of that it is hard to say what you will need. I replaced the OE ball joints around 240k and then the OE steering around 250k. My thought process at the time was that I had enough worn out and marginal stuff that I replaced it all. Probably a little over kill on my part but I figured I would start over fresh. While these parts are mostly bolt off and on, if it has been while or never done getting them off can be a real challenge and you will need a ball joint press to get them out. On 4X4 anyway. which is yours 4wd or 2wd?
  13. Just about have it worked now.
  14. bad connection in the plug somewhere. You could pull it apart spray some cleaner in there, then plug it and un plug it a few times and see if that helps. Then put some dielctric grease on it and see what happens.
  15. I have not looked in mine for 150k. When I was in there them the only dirt i saw was sloshing around with the fuel, nothing stuck to the tank. I know I have run some bio in it but dont have a clue how much. Bio seems to be a little more common out on the left coast. Cant see how rocks would have got in there other than on purpose.
  16. Welcome to the farm. Good looking truck. I would have to leave the quad to thems that knows it.
  17. I think I could have gotten two in there. I know there was enough room on the crank to do it as long as the hole in the cover was deep enough. I had room to push it in deeper and that might have left enough room for one more. Took mine out for a ride today and no evidence of any leakage. Got to head back to Durham Friday and will see how it holds up. If it does not I will be the guinea pig on the stack.
  18. I second LMC. My dash came from them and couple of smaller items and they have all been good products.
  19. The pin is recessed back in the hole. I did not tab because I dont feel it is going to come. You would think if it was going to move it would have done it by now. Just not going to sweat it. Pretty much what mine looks like up close.
  20. The post here is where i heard about sealing the sleeve to the crank. Just dont remember where it was. I am sure I can find. One thing I am not lacking is room to install anything.
  21. What did you use to seal the sleeve to the crank? I cant seem to remember or find what is recommended. I know it is anaerobic as I remember, sets up in the absence of oxygen. Think I have that right.
  22. My truck did this at shut down the first 4 or 5 years I had it and slowly just went away. Always heard it described as the Cummins sneeze. I heard several others with it and just never gave it a thought.
  23. I wont tab in the traditional sense. Maybe punch the metal at the hole to deform it a touch. I figure after 400k it must be in there pretty good.
