P0216 - Sad but true...
I would definitely change mine if I was in that far. Not that expensive and they sure can make a mess when they fail.

P0216 - Sad but true...
Or in Mike's case a VP well past its prime. Close to double an expected life expectancy. After reading what Jacob (DAP) said mine is well over that life span at 180K. Installed the current pump at 217k and now have 397K. I have to agree it is not the Quad. The VP is a wearable part just like anything else and yes they can fail out of the box just like anything else.

I have 180k on mine. Sounds like I am over due. Makes you wonder what kind of fuel addatives most folks are running.

Advice on Exhaust Manifold/System/Brake
I ran a Magna Flow on the wife's 2000 Dakota. Great sound but it only lasted about 6 years. Came on the truck so I am assuming it was not a SS exhaust system. No experience on a diesel however.

P0216 - Sad but true...
Mine did. Looked like old gasser with bad rings. Funny thing was I could shut the engine down and sometimes it would run right after that with no blue smoke until it acted up again.

P0216 - Sad but true...
Were pumping out alot of blue smoke? When my original went at 75k it acted a lot like yours but pumped out a lot of blue when it was acting up. Just curious since I have never heard of anyone mentioning that at failure.

P0216 - Sad but true...
Sorry to hear of the troubles. Had mine towed three time, once for a lift pump failure and twice for an ECM failure. I was able to drive it to the dealer the one time my VP failed. I was lucky on the ECM that I got towed to someone who knew these trucks and was able to hook me up with one for a reasonable price. Just run it out here and I'll swap it in for your.

4th gen Towing mirrors DONT work?!
Never tried to get 4th gen stuff to work on my 2nd gen. If they are not made to fit a 2nd gen some rework is going to be involved.

Ijection lines so tight.....
Nothing against the one that is linked but I got a set of 5 or 6 different sizes for about half of what the one cost thru Northern Tool I believe. Nothing against the pricier one though. I bet I have used mine a total of twice in four years.

Headlight options
Must not be the only ground since mine a working just fine. Guess I will look and see what it connects to.

Axle Leak after Brake job
Not sure on having to remove the ring and pinion but I do seem to remember reading about that for one side or the other. I do know the seals have to be installed from inside the dif and not the outside.

Headlight options
What is the green ground wire for? I have one on mine and it looks just like yours. Mine is not connected but it looks like I added sometime or the other so i did not worry about it. Looks like yours is connected.

Exhaust Brakes and head gaskets
I have run mine for about 170k miles. The only problem I have had is the EB actuator blew. No problems on the engine.

2 inch leveling kit
I put $20 Monroe's on mine a little while. They do the job but they are hard. holding good too. I used them for budgetary reasons. Thanks for the info.

I never plan on having the power you do but I know every time I add a little more it is fun and addicting. Just as much fun to watch Mikey with the bug.

Exhaust manifold
Going on 400k and no cracks. No sled pulling bud but some heavy towing.

Ground posts and preservatives
I guess I missed that guy cutting it with diesel but saw it in your post. Sounds like that guy soaks the whole post and then let dry for a while. I never heard of the charred wood before this.
