Front main seal
It is on the driver side of the engine and is behind the VP and the ECM. It is rectangular and runs most of the length of the block. Sometimes call the push rod galley cover I think. The gasket dry out with time and can leak a lot of oil. Here is good look.

Front main seal
I sill have a leak doing that and pretty sure it is the vacuum pump. the opposite side of mine including the front of the oil pan is dry for a change. I remember when my tappet cover gasket failed I had oil every where. The air just blew it all over. Looked like I was driving the Exxon Valdez. Fixed that and was dry for quite a while. A lot of things down there that can leak. When you take the front covers off the bumper they have releases you can reach in behind and pinch to release them. The first time I did mine several years back I pried them loose. I heard the pop and release. Thought I was pretty smart till I realized the popping I heard was the tabs breaking off.

Front main seal
I might not have pulled my bumper off and done it but it did make everything very accessible and easy to clean with the pressure washer. This is why I took mine apart so far. The worst problem I had was getting the seal to start. I tried using the dampener to get it started but the gear cover kept flexing and it would not start straight. The thing that saved me was on of the receiver cups in my ball joint press set fit the install tool perfectly. That allowed me to put a block of wood on it and hit it squarely. I was also able to support the cover directly under the opening so there was no flexing. Other than that is was a lot of bolt off bolt on.

Front main seal
This made it easy. I had to take off the bumper due to an accident. The radiator comes out very easily and the intercooler was a little harder but not difficult. You could just pull the radiator and I do it.

Check your tappet cover. If that thing is leaking it can go every where. Vacuum pump is another that comes to mind. That is my next oil leak to tackle. I did just replace my front seal. Had all the wet spots you speak of plus the gear cover was leaking also. It is nice to have the front of the motor dry again.

Worth trying....Olive Oil on truck.
Of my bumper covers the first one is still black but the other one is turning back. In fairness the first one got a good bit more than the second. The truck sat on my dusty job site all last week and the dust that was on it did wipe easily, not like it was soaked in oil.

Wheels and Tire Setup
I had the same experience with the cooper HT. They sucked. But the ATP's have been good all around for me. Still getting 20 mpg on highway runs running 70 to 75. They did great in the snow too. I went to them when Michelin's went to $1200 a set. The coopers are going up also and are around $900 a set. Will definitely look into the Hankook's if the Cooper's get out of control on the price.

Wheels and Tire Setup
I am on my 3rd set of Cooper ATP's. I only off road on the job but they have done well in the snow and wet pavement. I got 65k out of the first set and 60k+ out of the second. That is as good as the Michelin's I have run.

Front end lift questions
I guess what I dont get is how it is sitting level like that with a 2" lift in the front and the rear is on the overloads. That is how my truck sits with the 5th wheel on the back and no spacers on the front. I is confused. I am the opposite of you and like the stock rake of the truck. Just looks like it is begging for good load to haul.

01 engine in 98 truck ABS light won't go out
Might have to try this tomorrow and see if it turns mine out. I have had no signs of it being low.

Soliciting Recommendations for an ECM source or Rebuilder
I do remember now what you are speaking of. No idea whether mine has the diode or not.I thought you meant a separate relay of some sort the would protect my truck from something like me maybe.

trreed's upgrade thread
My pick up and both return lines go into the basket. I have had no issue with any cavitation or premature fuel starvation. All part of the kit that came with my AD. It will also suck the tank dry. I have, however, always wondered how warm the fuel is with this set up.

I guess I am missing something here. What do you mean by protection relays? That is what I was thinking.

not sure what i just did but ac coming out defrost vent
The line should go thru the firewall at one of the hvac lines. You can remove the glove box and it should visible on top of the hvac box. It does look melted. Mine broke near the same spot as your is melted. The other end is probably under the dash.

Soliciting Recommendations for an ECM source or Rebuilder
Mine did not have the normal things I have seen most everyone with have such as delayed WTS, starting and lift pump issues. Mine acted up one night going home from work. Dont remember exactly what is was doing just running really strange. Parked for a couple days and talked to some folks and decided to drive it. Drove fine about half way there then started acted weird again and got worse quick. I had to get off the highway and park. It was undriveable. Engine surging on its own was the most noticeable. It got worse the more messed with. DTC's out the wazoo, surging, runaway temp gauge, touch the throttle and it would runaway. But it would start just fine and idle though it would surge. Lift pump functioned properly.

Soliciting Recommendations for an ECM source or Rebuilder
Mine failed at 217k. Purchased one from ASI. They preached all the same stuff you mention above. The first one did not work and actually set a 606 code which the oe one did not. After waiting for almost 6 weeks for a replacement, I installed it and everything but cruise worked. I drove it like that because i could not afford any more down time. This lasted a year and died. I ended getting one from Cummins thru the mechanic I had it towed to. This was 2011 i believe. it cost me $1400 and the mechanic programmed it or had someone program included in that cost. I have heard Cummins does not have them any more but I have not checked. That would be my first choice unless what I read above says they want $2334 for it. That would make stop and think a bit. So yes I have gone that route and was sorely disappointed. By trying to save some money I spent a whole lot more going the internet route than I would have had bit the bullet and coughed up the $2500 plus programming that Dodge wanted at the time. It just galled me to think of giving them that much money and having to tow the truck to them. @Mopar1973Man I seem to remember a post by Cajflynn a good while back where he mentioned someone that he had good luck with but dont have a clue as how to dig that up.

Past 300k milestone
I seem to remember catching a little flack when I posted my 300k picture and I was just a few miles over. Did you not have your camera when was just a 3 and some 0's? Congrats on the 300k and growing. With my new job here in Maryland and the six month schedule, it looks like I will make it back from the moon before this job is over with.

p122 and engine surging
Going to revive this. After many months of no surging it came back. This time after all the work I did on the front of the engine and replacing the bumper I had the batteries disconnected for 4 days. It started surging on the first or second trip I made and is still doing as of today. So my theory of disconnecting the batteries is out the window. Cant figure out what I did. The only electrical I touched was the batteries, fog lights, and the block ground from the driver side battery. No codes this time as of yet.

EGT's after the turbo
I drilled mine in 05. Lucky to remember the year much less the size. Did mine turbo off, stuffed rag into manifold, drilled hole and removed rag. Put it back together and drove off.

2016 Silverado
I was curios about the mileage. My 96 Dodge had V10 in it. It still gives me nightmares. 4.25 mpg towing my 12k 5th wheel. And on a good day empty i could get 12.

Is there a bird in my truck?
No. Have not seen any protesters since Dan Kathy told everyone how he felt about marriage. Did my first job up there about about 15 years ago and almost got assaulted by a bunch of union carpenters one Monday morning. That was exciting.

How is you mileage while towing? Glad all this is working out for you with the new truck.

Is there a bird in my truck?
I knew my track bar was getting bad but sitting in the driveway one day getting ready to hit the road and I noticed that when moved the wheel a little the body of the truck moved the opposite direction. The ah ha moment. Now my new job is in Maryland and I am traveling the old I 85 and I 95. That is one crappy stretch of road and my truck does not like it and neither do I.

Any trouble codes set?

Is there a bird in my truck?
I have some of that in the front end. I attribute that to the fact I rebuilt the front end about 160k ago. About time for another rebuild. I am not complaining, got that mileage out of MOOG parts that everyone talks so bad about. Everything but the track bar, it only lasted about 130k. Your reckon the 01 has ever been rebuilt? Could just be worn out.
