Lift Pump/ Fuel Supply Question
You are right. I forgot thats how I hooked it up. It was a method in the AD instructions and the wiring harnes was set up to do that. I have the hot on the back terminal of the alternator and it is grounded to the mounting bracket. never had any trouble out of it.

No problem. I keep all of this running so Mike can sit back and take a lot of naps. He is quite good at it.

I do have one that was rebuilt and failed a year later. ASE I think was the rebuilder. I look at every so often to remind me of the fiasco the dealings with them was.

Lift Pump/ Fuel Supply Question
Mine will not do the first prime if you repeat it immediately. If I wait 15 to 20 seconds it will. I believe I have read here somewhere that that is normal. The ECM has to reboot for it to do the prime again IIRC.

Scangauge 0 LOD/0.0 GPH at idle
Mine reads 0 load at idle. If I give it a quick rev the load goes up, if I slowly ramp it up it stays on 0. Gph reads 2.96 at idle.

From 24 valve to 12 valve
If you disconnect the alternator and that is the problem everything should work normally.

VP44 Troubleshooting
The return line is a common cause of this. Follow the return line from the VP toward the rear of the engine. It will go into a tee that can leak. It then goes up to the back of the head. The sealing washer on the banjo fitting tends to go bad.

Looking for a new truck
I dug around craigs list here around home and was very surprised at what folks wanted for the 2nd gens. Auto 2wd were less, but manual 4wd 5 or 6 speed were ridiculous. If they had less than 200k on them $13K to $16k were the asking prices. Some of the built a few not. Did not expect that around here. Did not expect dirt cheap either.

From 24 valve to 12 valve
That should say if it does NOT do it you found your problem.

From 24 valve to 12 valve
Could be stray AC voltage from the alternator. You could pull the fuse and some folks say disconnect the lead from the alternator, take it for a ride and see if it still does it. If it does you found your problem. You can also have your alternator tested for ac noise. Just beware alot of the parts are not good at this.

Weekend Help
Of late I have been getting a week or so of down time between jobs. More between the last one. If I have much time between the office is going to find me something to do. We have 40 supers, there is always something to do. Warranty work, punch lists, you name it. I have also finished a job in New Jersey on a Friday just to have to be in Jacksonville Fl on the following Monday to start another. There were only 23 or so of us then. It just varies with me. I am fortunate to work with CFA and very fortunate to be employed by W H Bass. Even though we are a large company we have manged to keep our smaller roots. There is no one I cannot pick the phone up and call, from the owner, to the president and on down the line. It is a company that genuinely cares about their employees. Don't get me wrong it is still about making money and being successful. Right after I came on with Bass, 18 years ago, one of the secondary owners wanted to and grew the company quickly into a large fiasco. After he left and all the pieces were sorted out the owner and 3 of the principals in the company mortgaged their houses and kept the company alive. They did not have to do that, they could have closed the doors and gone on their way. But they did not. I never missed a days work or a penny in pay. These are men I truly respect and receive the same respect from them. Got a little long winded there but I have been very fortunate with this association.

Weekend Help
Even with me building primarily for one customer, CFA, the jobs are never the same. Some go great some dont. Depends on my subs, amount of site work and primarily the location. Some places act like they are happy to have new business in town and others dont give damn. I am not usually lucky enough to cherry pick my jobs pretty much go where I am needed most.

$1.79
$2 here at home in NC. Paid $1.79 in VA on the way home on Thursday. While I enjoy the prices coming down I would rather see stability in the prices. I just dont think that is going to happen any time soon though. I agree with WF on the debt free thing. Slowly working my way there. Should be there before retirement.

Welcome FF. I too am working my way back from the moon at 362k. I dont think I have a second in me however. Just keep taking care like you have started and you will make it. This is a great place to help you get there. The folks here have helped get where I am today.

Is it worth adding 2-cycle oil to a P7100 truck?
lost my first VP at 75k under warranty. this one ran on reg diesel before LSD. replaced the second with near 140k on it and it ran mostly on LSD. this last one has 145k on it and hopefully still has a lot of life in it. it has ran mostly ULSD and 2 stroke. only time will tell. That second pump kept spitting pretty colors for some reason. Maybe the LSD.

In the first link you provided the 3rd paragraph of the bill summary states that if bio blend is more expensive than straight diesel then the distributor does not have to buy it and can use straight diesel at no violation of the law. The thing that bugs me is there is no regulation that guarantees what you are getting. Many states allow up to 5% bio with no labeling on the pump. Anything over requires a label. So I think if you are counting on getting bio all the time, you just dont know. I have run alot of bio with good results in the past year. Got to where I was looking for it. I did cut down on the 2 stroke and ran some without it completely when using b 15. The engine ran just as quite with he higher percentages. I would just like to see decent labeling so you know what you are putting in the tank.

Mopar vs Aftermarket Parts
I replaced all of the above about 4 years ago with MOOG. I bought the unit bearings, one from NAPA and I forget where the other came from. Lost the Moog track about 10k ago and the drive side ball joint has a little play. I was thinking about the discussions we have had on ball joints and thats what gives me the head ache. Searching for them is no fun, especially the 00-02. Except for the track bar the Moog stuff is holding up alright despite all the bad things I have heard folks say about them of late. So for now I am good. But OE stuff held up for near 200K. but today's pricing on oe is way out there.

Mopar vs Aftermarket Parts
I bought a Tstat from a Dodge a good while back and the one I got was not like the original. This had a shroud around the lower portion that goes in the block. I know my OE was not like that. The mopar ball joints are ridiculously priced but if I got 200k out of them, maybe. but who is to say they are the same ones that came on the truck. But $150 bucks for a ball joint is way out there. Ball joints, I feel a headache coming on already.
