  1. I have noticed when I pull the drain plug and just let it sit and drain that my filter is usually an inch or two low. If I pull the plug and go right after the filter it is full. Just recently noticed this. I like the filter being alittle low. Makes getting it out of the engine bay a lot cleaner. I change my oil both hot a cold.
  2. Well there are many internet companies that profess that they can rebuild them for in the neighborhood of 5 to 700 dollars. I tried that route and it probably cost me near 4 times that. before I just bit the bullet and got one from a local mechanic thru Cummins. That cost $1400. I know of no one who can reliably rebuild the ECM. Even the ones thru the dealer or Cummins are remans, As this is a pricey part to replace, at least get your PCM back, hook it up and check you codes again and see what shows up. It would be better if you could clear your codes and then drive the truck some and see what codes come back. Might give us a better idea of what is going on. As pricey a part as the ECM is, you just dont want to buy one and hope that was the problem.
  3. Also controls the fuel pump.
  4. The ECM controls the WTS.
  5. Where did you send the computer? The ECM right? The one on the block. Delayed WTS light is a sign of the ECM failing. A fuel pump switch in the cab is a way around the issue. not saying for sure thats why it is there, just not uncommon.
  6. I dont think name or domain change would be something to consider. I do see what Russ is saying about Mopar as a turn off to someone who owns a Toyota or Nissan. Who knows a lot of folks are pretty brand loyal. I know several folks that thought I was an idiot for buying a Dodge. I have been getting my pay back though. Is there a way to include something in the name without completely starting over or is this something like you describe above? As mentioned earlier by I think W&F, most of the trucks are still seeing dealers for work due to them being under warranty. Time is on our side for now.
  7. Here is picture of mine. It is pretty much straight. I do see where mine is making slight contact with the diff. My track bar is shot and that might be the cause not sure. The weird thing I see on yours is it seems to be bent toward the bumper and making contact.
  8. I have never commented on your lifestyle change thread probably because I should do something similar, I am however happy that it has worked out for you and wish you the best. You are sure there is no ECM hiding in that water bottle? looks suspicious to me.
  9. I would think that 50 % to 75% of people that are buying new cars or truck have not a clue as to what makes them run. By that I mean they are buying style, options, fuel mileage, brand and many other things. They do not have a clue as to what actually makes it run. They might no something about the mechanics but I would bet they know zilch about the electronics that make it all happen. I fit somewhat into this category when purchasing my 02. I knew I wanted the Cummins. It was a diesel and that would be different for me but never gave elecronis a thought.. When talking to the salesman he mentioned HO, 6 speed tranny, and my testosterone started pumping and thats how I ended up with my truck. of course my 96 was sitting in there lot with a blown V10 and I did not have alot of choice but to buy, and the HO 6 speed stuff just pumped me up that much more. That has happening on car lots everyday. VW comes to mind rather quickly at this moment. CLEAN diesel, great mileage, great looks, and all the extras. That is what is selling them. Not trying to knock VW's at all, I looked at them a little while but even the 10+ year old one were quite pricey for me at the time. Did not mean to ramble on there, but the majority of people dont have a clue as to what make a car go. I know the mechanics well enough, but when comes to the electronics, I am a mental midget. Thanks to all here, I am a little taller than when I started. That brings me to the question of opening up to the newer vehicles. I sought out m73m while my truck was sitting in a garage, undriveable. I had never even looked at a forum before for anything. So I started looking and ended up on CF and a couple others and was not getting any help. I kept seeing mentions of M1973M and came over after being told to check my grounds or use the search button one to may times. So I came over and was welcomed and made to feel like one of the family. A little to late to stop me from buying a internet reman ECM but that s another story. I would have to defer to you that are more knowledgeable as to whether we can accommodate questions asked about the newer vehicles. I would hope that we could and would want to be a part of that but not sure what I could offer. And for you Bill, I aint riding no bicycle!!! To hilly around here.
  10. I should have read your sig a little better.
  11. if it is my stuff and they dont like me being anal about it. Tough for them.
  12. I highly recommend you replace the carter pump. it is just a matter of time before it takes your VP with it. It it is weak it wont help your priming of the system. It would be good at the least to get a pressure gauge and check the pressure on the lift pump. Weak pressure from the oe lift pump or any pump for that matter is a VP killer. .
  13. I know they dont care but i would still like to see a comparison of 2 identical vehicles, one in the EPA's trim and one in a power and mpg mode compared together. For that matter they would probably like to see all the VP trucks just die.
  14. To grow I think you have to. Even just getting some more 4 gen owners would help. Me I seem to be stuck in the 2nd gen. It is what i know and am very comfortable with. I would probably buy one of the Eco diesels after I pay some other debts off and keep the second gen for my tow vehicle. I priced some a few months back and still have some sticker shock in my system. I found a 2500 long bed with the Cummins for less than I could buy the Eco. That is based on sticker price. Of course the Eco was decked out with all the bells and whistles and the 2500 was not, but was similar to my 2nd gen. For me it is hard to offer advice on something I dont know much about. Very much like when I first came here. I have learned a lot here and have been able to use that knowledge on the vehicle I have. That would mean we would need to attract some owners of said vehicles. I would think that there would be some forums out there for them right now, never looked though.
  15. I would like to see an apples to apple comparison of what the engine actually produces, emission wise, in both trims and compare them. On top of that I dont want to get called to Adolph's room. No joy there.
  16. I am going to look at it a little closer this week end. The gauge is one I added for tranny temp and the only day it went nutty was that day on the way home. It has worked fine sense. All my added gauges are running out of the fuse box in the cab and all the factory stuff is working. I hope I can dig a little deeper this weekend. I might just plug the 5'r in and see if all is working on the it.
  17. I have been reading some about that. Seems they have admitted to doing it. Interesting.
  18. I want argue that that. Just sucks for something that simple. Or at least it seems simple to me. Kind of like the little clip that holds the rear axle nut. $13.
  19. you cant have to many tools or places to put them. On sale and a b'day present is a win win. I just need more time at home to reorganize mine.
  20. Always good to hear of a happy ending. good for you.
  21. Just poking a little fun there. Nice looking vehicles.
  22. Like said above, you can read for days here. Dino all my life with no problems.
